  1. We go to 1964 now and a replay of the East of Scotland Cup, third round, at home to Arniston Rangers. The BU's came out on top 5-3. The team that day was: Allan, Hynd, McCallum, Myles, W Campbell, Young, Ford, Cram, Gillespie, P Campbell, Plank The goals came from doubles by Kenny Gillespie & Ian Cram and one from Peter Campbell.
  2. Okay, remembering that totals are not definite, due to missing line-ups through the years, Here is the Top Ten appearance makers to the end of last season. I have to stress that, as Chris Donnelly is just outside but will be in there by season's end. 1. Andy Dunleavie - 532 2. Ian McQueen - 419 3. 'Tiger' Mitchell - 402 4. Gavin Kirkwood - 392 5. James Burns - 378 6. Lex Shields - 353 7. Will Snowdon - 353 8. Neil Binnie - 323 9. George Allison - 317 10. Derek Yates - 289
  3. Only problem there is that some would be approximates as team-lines not available for a number of games but I'll have a wee look and get back with it soon.
  4. Back to 1971 now and a Fife and Lothians Cup 4th Round tie with Lochore Welfare, at Newtown Park. The BU's won 4-3 with this side: Anderson, Simpson, Bertram, Hamilton, Sullivan, Zelman, Sinclair, Allan, Cunningham, Logan, McOwat sub Millar Goals were scored by Eric Sinclair, Dave McOwat, George Cunningham & Eric Logan.
  5. Close enough. I have seen his name reported as Cain but the popular version is Caine.
  6. Teaser again not too hard. In today's featured game against Bonnyrigg, who was the ex-BU player at number 2 for them?
  7. More recent times as we go to 2011 and a Junior Cup 6th Round clash with Bonnyrigg Rose, at Newtown Park. This was predicted to be a tight game and so it proved until near the break, when on-loan Hamilton centre-back Brian McQueen netted twice. The Bu's were then on top and Chris McFadyen bagged a brace in the second half. Final score 4-0. The team was: Longmuir, Snowdon, Hunter, Duffin, McQueen, Fraser, McLaren (Hamilton), Shirra (Donald), McFadyen, Walker, Plenderleith (Ure)
  8. On the ball today Sheep! Andy was brilliant that day, saving us a point in a goalless draw almost single-handed (sic)
  9. Easy teaser for today. Who was the runaway Man of the Match in 2017 in a draw at Newtongrange?
  10. We go to 1950 now and a St Michaels Cup tie against Armadale Thistle. Volunteer Park was closed at this time and so they played their 'home' tie at Firs Park, Falkirk. The BU's ran out fine 4-0 winners, boosted by the return of Willie Gardiner who had missed the previous 8 matches. He scored a double with Harry Clark and John McGuigan netting the others. The team was: Graham, Tennant, Thomson, Hogg, Dick, McKie, Jamieson, Clark, Gardiner, Rodgers, McGuigan
  11. You got it. You get to buy Chris a drink after the game!
  12. A Chris Donnelly teaser on this, his big day. He has only featured in one game for Bo'ness on this day. Any ideas?
  13. 1979 now and the BU march to the Junior Cup final continued with a fine win in Round 5, at home to Shettleston, by a score of 2-1 The team that day was: Howie, Robertson, McQueen, Miller, Stewart, Boyd, Craw, Masterton, Logan, Reid, McDonald (Dunleavie) Sub Taylor Goals came from Ray Logan and a Lenny Reid penalty.
  14. 1968 now and a match played in gale force winds at home to Bonnybridge. The visitors played with the wind in the first half and turned round a goal up. Nobody could foresee the events of the second half, as the BU's netted seven without reply, including a hat-trick by 'big' Joe McMeechan and doubles from Tony McCandless and Brian Watson. Final score 7-1 The team was: Crawford, McGuinness, McCandless, McMeechan, Gray, McQueen, Bernard, Simpson, McDonald, J Sneddon, Watson Quote Edit
  15. The Bo'ness FC team that played in the Scottish League are the same club as the one that played in the East of Scotland League pre-war, they ended up there agyer leaving the SFL, and then of course merged with Cadora to form United. Indeed. What I meant to say was that their East of Scotland League history was short-lived. The club had been without a League when playing Hamilton Accies in the Scottish Cup in 1938. They lost a lot of money despite winning the EOSL in 1939 and there were serious considerations of applying for Division 2 again but of course the war put paid to those plans being fully developed.
  16. No answers to yesterdays teaser so will leave it running until somebody does.
  17. Today we have yet another win at Prestonfield, this time in 1980, against Linlithgow Rose, this time by 3-1. The team was: Crooks, Dunleavie, McQueen, Miller, Stewart, H Temperley, W Temperley, Wilson, Davidson, Reid, Park. Goals came courtesy of a duble from Eric Davidson and a penalty from Frank Wilson.
  18. For a teaser, which substitute scored a last minute goal in our 3-1 win over Oakley United, in the Fife & Lothians Cup in 2015?
  19. 1987 and the BU's travelled to Arniston Rangers for a League match and returned victors by 3-2. The team that day was: Kirkwood, Dunleavie, Breen, Hamilton, Caldwell, McLennan, Shields, Dalton, Trialist (Fairley), Allison, Brown The goals came from Gary McLennan & an Alex Brown brace.
  20. For a teaser, we go back to 2010 and a trip to Newtongrange. A great come-back to draw 3-3 and with only 9 men at the finish. Who were the two sent off? Clue: Will wasn't one of them!
  21. The 1976 Junior Cup bandwagon was definitely rolling along, as Bo'ness travelled to Ayrshire for a 6th round tie against Cumnock. The BU's were in irresistible form at the time and returned home with a 3-1 win. The team was: Ferguson, J McQueen, McGuinness, Miller, I McQueen, McGeachie, McIntosh, Balanowski, Mitchell, Temperley, Anderson (Taylor) sub Robinson. The goals came from a double by Willie Temperley and one from Tom Balanowski.
