  1. Will check for sure when I get back from work and will also post some stuff for the 3rd (sneak preview, the wee rose are involved again!)
  2. The 2nd, historically is another date that has regularly seen Junior Cup action. Lanark United have been the opponents twice. Firstly in 1950, a 4th round tie was drawn 2-2 at Newtown. Then wind forward to 1982 and a 3rd round tie, again at Newtown saw Jackie Dunn score a brace in a 2-0 win. My favourite result comes from 1958 however, when the BU's travelled to Prestonfield in an R L Rae Cup tie and returned home over the flints with a 5-0 win under their belts. The team that day was; Wilson, Martin, Gavin, Dair, McKenzie, Collumbine, Philp, Millar, Cummings, Sinclair, Davidson Goals came from a hat-trick by Davie Philp, an own goal and a penalty from ex-Hamilton Accies player Tommy Dair.
  3. A new year starts and whilst I have still to get the whole thing out there, I thought it might be interesting to find United games on each day. Each day I'll put on some results, not necessarily all, for that day in history. New Year's Day has always been a good one for the BU's, having played 5 Junior Cup ties on the day. The very first, in 1947, being the stand-out result, a win over Largs Thistle at Newtown to the tune of 11-2. The team that day was; Stanners, Keenan, Brash, Paton, Stewart, McKie, McGowan, Dickson, Anderson, Pryde, McLean. The scorers were Pryde, McLean (5), Anderson (2), Dickson, Paton & McGowan Top marksman, Jimmy McLean had demobbed from the Royal Scots after the war and went on to sign for St Mirren in the summer of '47.
  4. Ultimately, it's not down to commonality but viability. On the face of it, there is no need for two 'non-league' sides in Bo'ness but it may satisfy a certain section of fans who would rather keep their money in the town. Some would watch either team at Newtown and forego all but the bigger away games. Whether that would lead to solvency for either side, who knows? However, what happens if the side supposedly going 'junior' is then automatically swallowed up by the pyramid, making both sides senior. That is where any sense ends. There should be discussions going on to affiliate the amateurs and turn them into the u-20's.
  5. Morgan should only miss 2 games after his red card at Sauchie. Reading Jambos post sounded more long term. I was only looking towards the end of the calendar year. However long he is suspended, we will miss him.
  6. We were poor, certainly. we can only hope that the players will be keen to end the year on a high. It's not going to be easy without our main playmaker though.
  7. Yes there is, stationed usually at the doughnut counter in Tesco.
  8. Late on a Saturday night is not the best time to give a measured answer to that.
  9. I'm sorry but you have contradicted yourself. Your first comment is clearly aimed at supporters in general and was answered as such. Your second comment centres on Bo'ness alone and I think you are just looking for a reaction.
  10. Unfortunately, poor officials are a malaise affecting Scottish football all the way to the top. The last week highlighted a few major errors. How do you sort that? The million dollar question.
  11. It's the same officials, just in a new setting.
  12. That was awful. Definitely got away with a point today. Ne'er a shot on goal from us, all we did was our usual cross into the goal area and nobody picks up on it. Young Diramola provided the few interesting moments from us with a couple of decent runs. Kegs needs to look at himself and the tactics adopted against a team of bruisers, who had luck gone their way would have buried us. Giving MOTM to Murphy for keeping a shut-out.
  13. Should be a cracker today. Both teams started reasonably well. The BU's, as usual, will have chances but can they take them? Me, I'll settle for a last minute win with a Shirra penalty.
  14. Officially announced now that young forward Tiwi Daramola has signed, on loan, from Stenhousemuir.
  15. I can see your logic but I can see the sense of playing a friendly against the wee rose. Brings a wee bit of money in and maybe the only chance to play our derby rivals this season.
  16. Came away wondering how did we lose that? Quickly remembered we have little threat up front, with only Marty weighing in with goals. Can't remember ever having so many corners in one game but the box was always packed tight and numerous shots were blocked. Yet another penalty miss costing us dear. Surely we can rely on one of them! The ref was totally out of his depth today, flashing cards everywhere but still managed to be inconsistent in that. The real ref today was Ian Black, who was at the ref's side constantly, yapping at him to tell him what to do. Once again, the best part of the trip were the steak & haggis bridies. Definitely up there with the Haddington offerings this season.
  17. After standing in the rain waiting for the bus this morning, forgive me if I'm not so enthusiastic about the game being on.
  18. Unfortunately his attitude was stinking. I remember him getting stupidly sent off at Forfar last season. Not the only player to have been sent off stupidly, certainly but Gray was a one-trick pony who really hasn't been interested in getting fit.
  19. No great loss if he goes. A shame that the only thing he'll be remembered for is the spitting incident at Haddington.
  20. Quite a few similarities. Both grounds well out of the town centres. Neither ground has any cover. Both suffer from lack of support but it was a darn sight faster getting to and from Eyemouth yesterday than it ever is to Carnoustie.
  21. Good weekend, league wise. We've now moved above Crossgates into fifth, level with Tranent on points but below them on goal difference. A point behind Sauchie, with a game in hand and 4points behind Dundonald but with three games in hand.
  22. The boys certainly looked up for it at the start and they did what they should have done last week. MacKenzie scoring a double does give you an idea of their defensive standard though. Some good performances though, from big Al, Marty & McMullen. Downside was Prentice taking a hamstring injury in the 2nd half. Absolute highlight though was at half-time, Syme over at the corner taking a pish and Will hits the ball 30 yards into the back of his head. A belter!
