  1. Yep, that's what comes of uploading this whilst rushing around getting ready for work. Info is for the 14th though.
  2. Back to more recent times for the 14th. A good result from 1995 when Dalkeith were defeated 5-1 away in the 3rd round of the Fife and Lothians Cup. The goals came from Eddie Hallford, Jimmy Gilmour, Mark Whyte and a double from John Sludden. The team was: Binnie, Dalton, Meldrum (Burns), Cullie, McLean, Wilcox, Whyte, Allison, Sludden, Gilmour, Hallford. In 2006, Shotts were defeated in the Junior Cup 2-0, away. The goals came from new signing Andy Roberts and Marc Anthony.
  3. It was indeed. He came from Clackmannan in 1967 and he left for New Blackburn Athletic in October 1969
  4. The main event on the 13th was in 1968 and a St Michaels Cup match at Newtongrange. The BU's came away with a 3-0 win with a double from John Bernard and one from Brian Watson. The team that day was: Crawford, Thomson, McCandless, McMeechan, Gray, McQueen, Bernard, Cowan, McGuire, Orr, Watson. In the same competition in 2007, Edinburgh United were narrowly defeated 2-1 with Derek Sinclair netting a brace
  5. The 12th now and in 1952, Bathgate were the visitors in the BU's first League game since the end of August. They played an amazing 17 cup-ties in the intervening period.. Thistle were despatched 3-2 with goals from Bobby Walker, Bishop & Archie Neill. I don't have the first name of Bishop, so if anybody can help, please let me know. The team that day was: Ronald, Mitchell, McKeeman, Neillands, McBlain, McKie, Bishop, Liddell, Walker, Kelly, Neill. In 1991 Broughty Athletic were Beaten 4-0 in the 3rd round of the Junior Cup, with Jimmy Burns chipping in with a hat-trick.
  6. For the 11th we go back to 1947 and the opponents were another team no longer around. This time Thorntree United were defeated 8-1 at Newtown. The side was; Bennie, W. Mitchell, Keenan, Paton, Stewart, Brash, Markie, McGowan, Anderson, McKie, McLean The goals came from James Anderson (2), John McGowan (4), John McKie and Charlie Markie. More recently, in 2014 The BU's travelled to Armadale and won 7-0 with seven different scorers, Steve Hislop, Stuart Hunter, Tony Jaconelli, Nicky Walker, Darren Gribben, Zander Miller and Kieran Anderson.
  7. The 10th now and there have been two Brown Cup ties won. A 3-0 win at Pumpherston in 1998 and a 2-1 win at Armadale in 2004. However, the focus falls on 1953 and a Quarter Final of the St Michaels Cup against Musselburgh played at neutral Broxburn. Bo'ness managed a 2-0 win with this team; Ronald, Mitchell, McKeeman, Simpson, A McBlain, Paterson, McAra, Donaldson, Evans, Ross, D McBlain. The goals came from Andy Donaldson and the trialist Stanley Evans, formerly of Petershill. The side were weakened by the absence of regulars Alex Grieve & Gibby Ormond, which led to the trialist getting a game and also a relative of Andy McBlain at outside-left for his one and only appearance.
  8. It's these wee stories that bring the history of club and players to life and make it all worthwhile. I love hearing these.
  9. My wife used to work in Sun and when I mentioned the name she remembered him, saying he was a baker who made braw cakes!
  10. It's certainly the same guy. He left Bo'ness to join Oakley in October 1965.
  11. The 9th now and a name no longer around, Loanhead Mayflower, were the visitors in 1965 in a St Michaels Cup tie. The BU's ran out winners by 5-2. The team was ; Allan, Bellamy, Kennedy, Myles, Chambers, Young, Craig, Buchan, Meikle, Bloy, McManus. The goals came from doubles from Archie Meikle and Alex Bloy and one from Sandy Myles. In 2016 Tayport visited and the game marked the debut of Fraser Keast, who was the architect in a 3-0 win. Only blot on the landscape was back in 1993 when Beith were visitors in the Junior Cup and returned to Ayrshire with a 2-0 win.
  12. A lot of impressive scorelines on the 8th down the years. Polkemmet were beaten 9-3 in a 1949 League game, away. Nap hands have been hit in 1994 , against Broxburn, 5-2 in the Brown Cup and in 2000 against Arniston, 5-1 in the East of Scotland Cup. The result in 1972 tops them all. Fauldhouse visited on League business and ended up on the end of a 9-0 hiding. The team that whipped the 'hoose was; Gilmour, G Logan, Haggarty, Simpson, Frew, Zelman, Sinclair (Moran), Brown, Tierney, McGregor, McOwat . We saw hat-tricks from Jimmy Tierney and Dave McOwat, with singles from Eric Sinclair, Jim Moran and a Lennie Frew penalty. One game where I am missing our scorer is back in 1977, in the Brown Cup at Haddington. The BU's won 1-0 but if anyone can come up with the scorer I'd be grateful.
  13. The 7th is another busy day in history. One recent local match catches the eye, back in 2012. League opponents that day were Linlithgow away and it ended in a stalemate of 2-2. Chris Donnelly & Lee Duffy netting. However, the spotlight again falls on 1984 as the BU's made another stride towards Cup glory. Kinnoull were the opposition at Newtown in the 3rd round of the Junior Cup and were defeated 2-1. The team that day was; Kirkwood, Dunleavie, Breen, Beaton, Caldwell, Reid, Shields, Balanowski (Robertson), Fairley, Carroll, W Temperley. The goals came from Lex Shields & Bobby Beaton.
  14. Eric signed in March 1971 after scoring as a trialist in a 4-0 home win over Bathgate. He left for Kilsyth at the end of the 73/4 season.
  15. Is that Lee or Lees? The papers always report him as Lees. Certainly normally listed as number 11.
  16. The 6th of January '62 saw one of the worst results in our history, losing in a Junior Cup R3 match to Port Glasgow A- 0-7, In 1996 Fife & Lothians Cup business saw Haddington visit but were defeated 3-2 .Scorers being a double from Jimmy Burns and one from Danny Crainie), The best result was in 2001 and a League visit from Whitburn, which ended 2-1 to the BU's. The Whitburn game was against the eventual champs and the BU line-up was; N Binnie, Black, King, Yates, C Inglis, Drew (Kemp), Hodge, K Inglis (Ward), McKinlay, Loney, Ryan. Kevin Inglis had netted one penalty but was substituted prior to the 2nd being awarded. Old faithful Paul McKinlay made no mistake.
  17. The 5th has always been a 'bread and butter' League day with one exception being in 1974, when Armadale visited on Brown Cup business. They were sent packing by 4-2 with a double from George Squair, a goal from future manager Eric Sinclair and one from Lees (any info on this last player would be gratefully received as I do not have his first name or where he was signed from). No good day is complete without a win over the wee rose though and in 1957 the BU's travelled to Prestonfield in search of league points. They returned to Bo'ness with a 2-1 win under their belts. The line-up was; Ronald, Taggart, Gavin, Collumbine, Garth, McBlain, Walker, Hunter, Young, Trialist, Ormond. (I believe the trialist that day was A Calder as he appeared as a signed player for the next few games. Iny info on his full first name and source would be great). A double from Willie Young secured the points that day. Willie had first appeared for the BU's in 1950, before playing for Alloa, Hamilton and Stenhousemuir in the seniors.
  18. Loving the wee snippets of info coming to light. Makes it all more personal for fans. The 4th now and a relative dearth of games, with only 4 played on that date in the club's history. From 1947, 3 days after thumping Largs by 11 goals, we went one better and took apart Ormiston Primrose ,away, 12-0. The highlight being six goals from Willie Dickson. The four scored by Jimmy Anderson seem to pale in comparison. The spotlight for today falls on 1966, where the BU's began a marathon four game struggle against Larkhall Thistle in the 3rd round of the Junior Cup. It ended in a 2-2 draw through there and the BU's lined up thus; Preston, Blackley, Kennedy, Broome, Chambers, Myles, Caproni, McFarlane, Meikle, Philp & Komorowski. The goals came from McFarlane & Myles. Does anyone know if the Davie Philp playing in that game was the same as the hat-trick hero against the wee rose in 1958?
  19. On to the 3rd now and unsurprisingly another date full of Junior Cup ties. Opponents included Arthurlie, Benburb, Irvine Meadow and the now defunct Halbeath. A recent good memory was in 2015 when the BU's triumphed 3-2 over Camelon, with goals coming from Sloan, Cowan & Donnelly. Pride of place goes to 1984 though and the Junior Cup-winning year began in fine fashion with a 2-1 League win at Prestonfield. Happy new year indeed! The BU's lined up as Kirkwood, Dunleavie, McQueen, Beaton, Caldwell, Reid, Shields, Fairley, Sinnet (Balanowski), Carroll & Wilson. Fairley & Wilson netted for the BU's.
  20. Indeed it was. He played 11 competitive games for the BU's in 57/8 as understudy to future Scottish full international, Harry Thomson.
  21. Will check for sure when I get back from work and will also post some stuff for the 3rd (sneak preview, the wee rose are involved again!)
  22. The 2nd, historically is another date that has regularly seen Junior Cup action. Lanark United have been the opponents twice. Firstly in 1950, a 4th round tie was drawn 2-2 at Newtown. Then wind forward to 1982 and a 3rd round tie, again at Newtown saw Jackie Dunn score a brace in a 2-0 win. My favourite result comes from 1958 however, when the BU's travelled to Prestonfield in an R L Rae Cup tie and returned home over the flints with a 5-0 win under their belts. The team that day was; Wilson, Martin, Gavin, Dair, McKenzie, Collumbine, Philp, Millar, Cummings, Sinclair, Davidson Goals came from a hat-trick by Davie Philp, an own goal and a penalty from ex-Hamilton Accies player Tommy Dair.
  23. A new year starts and whilst I have still to get the whole thing out there, I thought it might be interesting to find United games on each day. Each day I'll put on some results, not necessarily all, for that day in history. New Year's Day has always been a good one for the BU's, having played 5 Junior Cup ties on the day. The very first, in 1947, being the stand-out result, a win over Largs Thistle at Newtown to the tune of 11-2. The team that day was; Stanners, Keenan, Brash, Paton, Stewart, McKie, McGowan, Dickson, Anderson, Pryde, McLean. The scorers were Pryde, McLean (5), Anderson (2), Dickson, Paton & McGowan Top marksman, Jimmy McLean had demobbed from the Royal Scots after the war and went on to sign for St Mirren in the summer of '47.
  24. The photos look really good. Our two projects had been linked closely and I hope our pitch (eventually) looks like yours. Good luck.
