  1. Just a general teaser here. Many players have had more than one spell at the club but can you tell me the greatest number of years between one debut and another?
  2. Another Junior Cup 5th Round tie and this time it's 1947 and the opponents are a name from the past, Dennistoun Waverley. Haggshill Park saw a record 10,000 crowd and many 'fans' scaled the barricades after the gates were closed and police had to be called to restore order. The BU's won there 5-2 with this side: Stanners, W. Mitchell, Brash, Paton, Stewart, McKie, McGowan, Dickson, Anderson, Pryde, McLean. Goals came from a John McGowan penalty, a Jim McLean double, James Anderson and Willie Dickson.
  3. You've got it. Below is an excerpt from an article in the Journal on the game. "Bo'ness United, this was your finest hour. Forget the 9-0 victories of yesteryear, forget the cup victories of the past, beyond any question, United played a defensive game which would have done justice to the famous "iron curtain" set-up at Ibrox after the war. Facing great adversity, no regular goalkeeper, centre-forward Mitchell calling off hours before the tie, Scobie being sent off, McIntosh being carried off, Bo'ness marshaled a defence which was magnificent. Playing a major role, stop-gap 'keeper Ian Miller was tremendous, he saved one penalty and scored with another to match the same feat he performed a fortnight ago against Penicuik and a feat which I doubt has ever been performed before in Scottish football at any level. According to reports, the McQueens, McGuinness, McGeachie and Robinson played like heroes. Regarding the Scobie sending off, the decision was considered doubtful to say the least."
  4. Not that one but you've got the right year! I'll give one clue, it's a cup game.
  5. Today also sees a match that the Journal headline reports as "United's Finest Hour". Can any of you work out what match that is and then tell me who the 'keeper was?
  6. All the way back to 1948 now and a Junior Cup 5th Round tie away to Dundee Violet. The tie was played at Dens Park, due to the large crowd expected and they were right! A reported crowd of 20, 000 turned up to see the BU's triumph 2-0 with this side: Graham, Mitchell, Keenan, Walls, Stewart, McKie, Black, Pinkerton, Buckley, Sproull, Cannon The goals came from Henry Pinkerton and Jimmy Sproull.
  7. It was indeed Pedro. boness4ever got the game right and two scorers. The other scorer was Marty Wright.
  8. Should be an easy one today. In 2016, which player scored his last BU goal on this day?
  9. Back to 1954 now and an R L Rae Cup-tie at home to Bonnyrigg Rose. The BU's crushed their opponents 7-0 with this team: Ronald, Mitchell, McKeeman, Wood, Boyd, McBlain, Scott, McMahon, Donnelly, McKeown, Aitken. The great Alex Scott scored four, Andy McBlain hit a double and Hugh McMahon got the other.
  10. Wait until you see what he does in the Champions League Final in 2050.
  11. I'll be honest, I couldn't tell you. I suppose I've had tunnel-vision compiling the stats and just haven't recorded such events. The game was the Highland Queen sponsored League Cup Final on 3rd December 1983. Bonnyrigg won 5-1 and the BU team was: Kirkwood, Dunleavie, Breen, Robertson, Forster, Reid, Shields, Fairley, Sinnet (W Temperley), Carroll, Beaton (G Young). The scorer for the BU's was Brian Fairley.
  12. He came from Musselburgh in summer of 20005 and left at end of season to join Edinburgh United.
  13. Didn't look this up. John Robertson OMG John, you've got one wrong!
  14. Yesterday's teaser had less responses than expected but the answers were Paul Parkin, Craig Martin & John Jeffrey. Today we will keep with the Junior Cup theme of the main match and back in 1983, we travelled to Ayrshire to play Whitletts Victoria in a 4th Round tie. We managed a 1-0 win. Who scored the winner?
  15. The featured match for today is a Junior Cup 5th Round match away to Arniston Rangers in 1955. The BU's came out on top 4-2 and the team was: Ronald, Mitchell, Blackwood, Hogg, Boyd, McBlain, Scott, McMahon, Harrower, Hunter, McKeown. The goals came from a Billy McKeown penalty, Hugh McMahon, John Hunter and Alex Scott.
  16. Off the mark, I'm afraid. Of the two replies only Brown & Anthony played. Marc had already bagged a few whilst Brown didn't score once that season.
  17. The answer to yesterday's teaser was Sean Lynch. John went 50-50 on it, so he's closest! Today, I'd like to take you to a League match in 2006 against Dundee North End. The BU's won 3-1 and three players all scored their first goals of the season. Can you name them?
  18. 1989 now and having disposed of two west clubs in previous rounds of the Junior Cup, Neilston & Ashfield, a third was added when Largs Thistle visited in round 4. They were defeated 5-1 by this team: Kirkwood, Dunleavie, Dalton, G McLennan (Grant), McLean, Fisher, Shields, Allison, Cheape, Ewing, McLaughlan (Cowan). Goals came from a John McLaughlan double, Russell Cheape, Eric Ewing and an Andy Dunleavie penalty.
  19. I have Dave joining Bo'ness from Slamannan Villa in the summer of 1959. He was immediately first-choice centre-forward and scored 11 goals in the first 6 games of the season. Not surprisingly the senior scouts came calling and he left for Dunfermline at the end of October, having scored 13 goals in 15 games.
  20. David had already retired injured in January. As a clue, here's the team: Stalker, Russell, Mullen, Morrison, G Brown (Smith), Tully, Mitchell, Sinclair, Proctor (McGlinchey), Donnelly, Trialist (Kenny)
  21. A wee teaser today. Back in 2007, The BU's entertained Kinnoull in a SuperLeague match and won 7-2. The question is, who was the trialist number 11 subsequently signed to the end of the season?
