  1. Jim began with Gairdoch United before going senior with Falkirk, then Dundee United. He was reinstated to Bo'ness in 1960 and scored 23 goals in 41 games. He moved to Kilsyth a year later, followed by a move down south to Luton Town, then to York City. After that he went into English non-league football with Poole Town. Hugh played in the 50's for Dumbarton, Raith Rovers, Ayr United & Albion Rovers.
  2. Derek Grant Well done John. The other goals came from Darryl Drew & Steven Bryce.
  3. The teaser today takes us to 1998 and a time when Bonnyrigg didn't rule the roost. The BU's came home with a 3-0 win but who scored their first goal for the club that day?
  4. In 1976, a week after the heroic draw at Arthurlie in the Scottish Cup 5th Round, the replay was held at Newtown and with a regular 'keeper again the BU's ran out comfortable winners by 4-1. The team was: McBain, J McQueen, McGuinness, Miller, I McQueen, McGeachie, Scobie, Balanowski, Mitchell, Temperley, Anderson (Robinson) sub Simpson. Scorers were two from WillieTemperley and one each from Billy Mitchell and Tom Balanowski.
  5. Almost a month after hitting 12 past Bonnybridge in 1965, the very next game was a home League match with Pumpherston. Perhaps surprisingly it finished 4-4. The team was: Preston, Hynd, Kennedy, Myles, Chambers, Cairns, McManus, Buchan, Meikle, McKinnon, Craig. The goals came from a Bobby Buchan double, Archie Meikle and Frankie Craig. Buchan signed for Pumpherston for the next season.
  6. A slight exaggeration. Reports have it as a super strike from the edge of the box.
  7. We have a winner! Well done. Jamie Winning scored the other in that game.
  8. Yesterday's teaser stumped everyone. The answer was Stuart Beveridge! No, I don't remember him either. Today, I want to take you back to 2005 and a 2-1 win at Thornton Hibs. The winner was scored by a player netting his very first for the club. Who was it?
  9. In 1955 just a fortnight after hitting double figures against Alva Albion Rangers, the sides met in the reverse League fixture at the Hillfoots and the BU's won 6-1 this time. The line-up was: Ronald, McBlain, Donnelly, Hogg, Boyd, Meiklejohn, Thomson, McMahon, Harrower, Hunter, McKeown. Goals came from a Jimmy Harrower hat-trick, John Hunter, Hugh McMahon & Billy McKeown.
  10. He never actually appeared in the team. Closest he got was as an unused sub at Arthurlie in the Scottish.
  11. Here's one to have you thinking. In 2012, away to Bathgate in a 0-0 draw, which player made his only appearance for the club, as a substitute?
  12. In 1967 Sauchie were the visitors on League duty and the BU's came out on top 4-2. The team was: Hope, Moreland, Marshall, Thomson, King, Abel, Orr, Purden, Lumsden, McPaul, Watson. Davy Orr scored a double and Brian Purden & Brian Watson also netted.
  13. Thanks anyway. Yes, Dalry was his debut. He only went on to play 6 games in total, scoring in his final game, the winner in a 3-2 victory away to Forth Rangers.
  14. You don't happen to know which club Bert came from, do you? I have Gibby signing from Camelon Thistle in 1953.
  15. Big Allan. At Broughty That's right. Was not going to bother with that today but his hat-trick yesterday makes it more interesting. After scoring just 2 in 15 games last season, he has got 8 in 22 this campaign so far.
  16. An easy teaser today. Who scored on his debut on this day last year?
  17. Thanks for the info. The Sauchie game was on January 16th 1971 and my records had an unnamed trialist at number 7. As the Journal was sketchy over subs in those days, I don't have Jake as coming on. Ian Hamilton was a half-back who was the regular at the time but displaced by Jake towards the end of the season. Eric didn't appear again, as far as I know until the Bathgate game 2 months later, when the Journal said he was a trialist. Thanks again, every bit helps to complete the picture.
  18. Today in 1951 it was Junior Cup 5th Round day and a trip to Dalry Thistle ensued. A 2-1 win was achieved with this team: Foote, Mitchell, McKeeman, Hogg, Thomson, McKie, Dunlop, Smith, Gardiner, Steedman, Ormond. The BU's came from behind through two goals by Willie Gardiner, the winner a penalty. 3000 travelled from Bo'ness in the crowd of 8600. The takings were £398 at the gate.
  19. For a wee teaser, on this day in 2008, the BU's played a League match at Kinnoull. Which new signing made his debut that day?
  20. We go back to 1946 now and a League match at home to Newtongrange Star. The sides had already met four times in the East of Scotland Cup. This time, the BU's swept the Star away 7-2. The team was: Bennie, Monaghan, Speakman, Gardner, Liddle, Brash, McGowan, McKay, McLean, Trialist, O'Hagan and the scorers were Jim McLean (2), Francis O'Hagan (2), Willie Brash,Trialist & John McGowan. The Trialist was most likely former Cadora player Bill Pryde, who scored a double as a trialist the following week before fully signing.
  21. Correct! First made his debut in 1981 and then returned, ostensibly as coach to play in 2008
