  1. Yeah, I'd start both Robbo and LD on Saturday. I thought Jon played well on Saturday. I think we'll need our best and most experienced eleven on the park if we are going to take something from the game, something we are capable of doing IMO.
  2. I'd like to think we could fit them both in somehow. Coulson has certainly done much better than expected. He's quick, direct and strong, plus decent on the ball. If he hadn't made the goal on Saturday I'd have queried his final ball/finishing, and I still think that's an area he will need to improve. Certainly gives us qualities no one else can. On the second half formation, must admit I wasn't sure at times exactly what it was. Coulson was wide left at times, with Scougs in the hole IMO, with LD given a licence to go where he could affect the game (which suited him) and McIver was the lone target man which also seemed to suit him - as I mentioned above I thought his general play was really good in that role.
  3. Yeah, can't see how he thought that.
  4. I thought the ref penalised too many soft challenges when he could have let the game go on. Wasn't the best ref I've seen, but he was pretty consistent if nitpickey. Certainly wasn't "horrendous". Agree it was a really good three points and just about deserved after a poor first half from us, with Montrose on top and their front three looking lively. Bold changes at half-time from Rice, and credit to him for that; completely changed the game. Thought McIver was excellent second half and was well supported by LD, Coulson and Scougs (in an advanced role). He seemed to thrive with Sammon not on the pitch. Robbo and King also did well when they came on, clinical finish from the latter. Also thought Doyley was excellent defensively, especially at right back when we went to a back four. Great to see him "turn back the clock". Who knows what eleven we will start with away to Dunfermline.
  5. I should clarify. I'm not saying I personally think Church is definitely full-time quality, I thinks there are still question marks over his defending. I do think, however, that his performances going forward, contributing numerous dangerous crosses and several assists will have been noticed and I think there is a good chance a full-time club will take a chance on him for next season. Stanger for me has been more inconsistent. Of course part of the reason for that could be the lack of consistency in our defensive formation and personnel. I think he's got a lot to learn, but he has had several good games and his physical attributes including his speed are major pluses. I think he'll get a full-time chance too, but personally I don't think he's quite ready yet.
  6. We can only sign someone who is a free agent is my understanding. There may well be such options out there, but I expect their wages would be outwith our budget. I would certainly rather we punted Devine and brought in an attacker.
  7. Generally I think it's been fine. About 90% of the time when there's a "controversial" or allegedly "horrific" decision, when I watch the highlights I think the ref has got it right, or at least I can see why he made the decision he did. ( I did the refs exam about twenty years ago for interest, so I've got a reasonable, if out of date knowledge of what the laws are. I didn’t actually ref any games as I certainly don't have the temperament for it - you may not be surprised to hear that. ) The refs we get in league one are FAR MORE qualified and experienced than your average fan.
  8. I agree with your first and last paragraphs. Re another left back I give Rice the benefit of the doubt and can see why he started the season with Church as first choice left back. I actually think Church might get a full-time move based on his performances this season.
  9. I actually thought McIver played well yesterday, but accept he wasn't much of a goal threat. Agree that he and Sammon together aren't a great combination. As I've posted before I think we should be giving wee Kev a shot up front. Been a while since he was used there, but think he would complement McIver.
  10. Agree with this, it was a cracking strike which us Alloa fans got a good view of and it was in the net before Jay, who continues to looks a very talented young keeper, could move. I thought we played well again yesterday and could easily have taken something from the game. I'd like to see us be less direct, but that approach is probably the right one against Falkirk with the players we have available. Was disappointed with Durnan's slackness a couple of times, especially needlessly conceding the corner from which the goal came. Also thought Doyley and Stanger could have been better in possession. It was nice to see George out-sprinting Morrison - reminiscent of his Dad on the rugby pitch. I'd like to see Strachan start with Taggs at right wing back. He's a tidy player and his long throw looks a real weapon. Falkirk look to be getting stronger with every game. We haven't allowed them to play, apart from brief spells, in the three recent games yet they've won two and drawn one - a reflection of the depth of quality they have in the squad now and, also, improved belief/determination. Great to read their fans' support of Brian Rice too. Kudos for that.
  11. Tbh I don't really dwell on bad decisions at all. It is what it is, refs are doing their best and I don't see the point of it. How Alloa play over the season will determine whether we are successful, not referees' decisions.
  12. I'm surprised at this from you. The usual morons I'd expect it from. You really believe the ref gave a foul for an incident he didn't see on the basis he saw a player on the ground rolling about? You do know the ref is miked up to his assistants, who will bring his attention to incidents he misses?
  13. We weren't playing full backs, we had a back three with two wide midfielders/wing backs.
  14. There isn't, but it only happened in your head, not in reality.
  15. I was watching the game, but I know the laws, unlike you I'm guessing?
  16. I think there's also an element of people bizarrely assuming there's a direct relationship between pitch and club size.
  17. While I agree Finn is genuinely world class, Townsend was also, as best evidenced IMO by his role in the Lions' series win against the Springboks in the late 1990s.
  18. Imagine being a winger, walking on the pitch and seeing big Duhan's your opposite number!
  19. Second half was excellent. Every time we attacked we looked like we were going to score, Finn opening up his bag of tricks and playing a new one at every opportunity.
