  1. Do you know what the building to the left of Love Street is - off Harbour Road I think?
  2. It's an utter disgrace what they have done to St James. Can you trust that council to do anything right after their efforts at Dargavel I remember playing there quite often for the BB when I was a teenager and the place was packed every Saturday. Such a shame.
  3. Are you sure it's 1981? - we played England at Wembley that year, my first trip there. John Robertson scored the winning goal with a penalty.
  4. I saw Elton at the Apollo in the 80s and he was brilliant live then. It was his first tour with his old original band again. I haven't seen him since and thought he was done years ago. I was wrong, he was superb tonight. Thought the musicians in Blondie earlier on today were way ahead of the vocals, albeit I still quite enjoyed watching them. As for the QOTSA - I don't get what folk see in them, a lot like The Foo Fighters. Each to their own though.
  5. Santana's version of She's Not There is miles better then the original by The Zombies.
  6. I remember being worried the game was going to e abandoned after we had gone 1 up against you. That was a massive 3 points for us as you suggest. I also remember your 3-3 game at Ayr. We won promotion following a nil nil 'thriller' at home to Hamilton and yes you are correct we had all these guys in the team at the time. II remember being raging at Burns signing an 'old dud' like McCluskey. How wrong I was, he was a fantastic signing for us and until he played for us I never realised just how skilful a player he was. It's strange how football seemed so much better then as a Killie than it does nowadays, but St Mirren fans probably think the opposite.
  7. You are correct, it was Brown who played against Rangers rather than Wilson. It was Wilson who played against St Mirren in the game the picture is of. We won promotion by beating Queen of the South 6 nil, not the Hearts game. The nil - nil Hearts game was the weekend before that and meant if Hearts beat Motherwell in the last game they would go up. Fortunately for us they lost 1 nil.
  8. By the way I'm wrong as we came back up the next season - 1981/82 - as we won promotion on the weekend of my 21st, after Motherwell beat Hearts at Tynecastle. You are right about the 3 horse race in 1992/93. We blew it, then Dunfermline blew it then we finally got over the line. I thought we had lost the chance after you beat us 2-1 at Love Street but you ran out of steam too near the end. Was the 1 nil game the one where it was snowing heavily and it was difficult to see the lines?
  9. Yip - the young goalkeeper was flung in before he was ready due to Alan McCulloch getting his ankle broken at Cappielow a couple of months earlier. He lost 8 to Rangers, then a couple of weeks later 6 to yourselves We were relegated that season and didn't get back to the premier League until 1993.
  10. Cheers, that makes perfect sense. Speaking personally I don't like the proposed new location, however not sure what alternatives there are in Barrhead. I presume they have considered the fact the Levern Water sits behind the said location. Separately I'm with you regarding the council, who IMO have not done much for the club in the last 40 years.
  11. Where's this suddenly come from considering they had their AGM last Monday and is it a serious proposal from the council, who as we both know have not done a lot for the club in the last 40 years? Also good news re the small bit or terracing that was closed last season, not half the terracing. Glad it's getting fixed as I fell on my arse there the season before it was closed off.
  12. 99% certain the goalkeeper is Wilson rather than McCulloch which would make it the November game.
  13. Probably from the game at the end of August 1991, which was a 1-1 each draw. If so Monty scored for us in front of over 8,000 fans.
  14. Agree with your logic but I would be amazed if we were stupid enough to take him back as he's too injury prone.
  15. I thought we were rotten and were lucky to only lose by 2 goals. If Motherwell had scored 4 or 5 we couldn't have complained. It was obvious after less than 10 minutes the back 3 wasn't working yet our' tactical genius' didn't change it until well into the 2nd half. If he was going to persist with 3 at the back he should have started Mayo IMO. How that team can put in a performance like that after their display against St Mirren baffles me. Probably most of it is down to Motherwell getting their tactics correct and stopping us from creating too many chances. As an aside, and he wasn't a factor in the result, Clancy was an utter joke yesterday to both teams. Utterly hopeless who was kept right by both of his linesmen doing their jobs properly.
  16. I have said for years there should be something like this established that does not include fans/representatives from either Rangers or Celtic.
  17. John Henry was a great player. I didn't really know much about him when he signed for us, despite the fact I must have seen him play for Clydebank against us before our promotion in 93. On the other hand I always wanted us to sign Paul Harvey, but we never did. You are correct with Gordon Hunter by the way,
  18. 1. Sherry Darling 2. Thunder Road 3. 4th July, Ashbury Park (Sandy) Can't wait to see the great man again next month at Murrayfield
  19. Delighted with our performance on Saturday and getting a fully deserved 3 points. I thought Power was superb followed closely by Vassell, Donnelly, Taylor and Chambers; there wasn't a failure in our team. Special call out to the Killie support who turned out in great numbers today and really backed the team. 5 massive games coming up now, so hopefully the injuries picked up today are not too lengthy. Congratulations to St Mirren for finishing in the top 6 this season, you obviously deserve it. Having lived next to Paisley virtually all my life I am pleased for all the ST Mirren fans I know.
  20. Excellent post explaining as I said what is the elephant in the room that the SFA, SPFL, Rangers, Celtic and the Police are not prepared to address. I'm in my sixties and I can guarantee this same issue will still exist long past my time watching Scottish football as no one will address it because of the backlash they will get from the scum element of both fan bases.
  21. Good luck with this. I suspect at least 1 red card and at least 6 yellows. Makes me even more nervous about Saturday now.
  22. John Byrne was from Barrhead and a headmaster at one of the local primary schools (St Johns I think) and a really nice guy. Sat with him quite a few times in the Arthurlie Inns in the late 70s and early 80s and he was a font of knowledge on football, especially in the local area. He watched Arthurlie for years. When it came to senior football I can't remember if he was a St Mirren fan or a Celtic fan - I think it was St Mirren.
