  1. Can't find a reference to this anywhere on the net. Surely news like that deserves a source reference? gav-ffc?
  2. You don't think it's anything to do with the football quality do you? Seemed like the National Stadium was quite lively for today's match. Anyone who attended Euro 2008 qualifiers, when we were winning, will testify how rowdy and intimidating Hampden is. Unfortunately we've been fairly shite ever since. The game against Georgia in 2014 at Ibrox was equally dull. Splendid research. Here's a few more figures for the debate. Seven of the twelve stadia used in the 2014 WCF had capacities less than Hampden. Hampden seats 52k. Scotland's population is c5.4M. For most tournament games Hampden is near to a sell-out. Even midweek games against smaller countries than ours attract gates of c45k. If you pro-rata that, England should have a national stadium with about a half-million capacity; Germany about 800k; Italy 700k etc. We already punch well above our weight with fan loyalty and I for one doubt we could squeeze much more out of it. When Hampden sells out for every home fixture in any tourney then it's time to ask for more. And if it did need expanded I'd convert the North stand into one of those clever standing/sitting set ups. Nobody sits in that stand anyway. Access/egress. This is a great one. I can only assume anyone commenting on this supports a team who has such low numbers their stadium is empty five minutes after the whistle. I've been to full houses at Ibrox and Celtic Park. And Wembley, old and new. And the SECC. And the O2 in London. And the NEC in Birmingham. St James, Old Trafford, Etihad. Never got away from any of them in less than 30 minutes. Sharing Scotland games between Ibrox and Celtic Park. FFS! Seriously? Murrayfield. Never going to happen. Just won't. Ever. Rugby chaps won't let it. Comparison with other British Isles nations. If Hampden doesn't look as sexy as some others here's a few points I like to reflect on. The building of Wembley put the construction company, Multiplex, out of business in this country. The Millennium stadium put JohnLaing Construction out of business. No such horrors at Hampden. Windsor Park is still in it's final phase after several years of reconstruction. Hampden was rebuilt long before any of the others. Innovative and forward-thinking at the time it still looks good and nearly two decades on is still in good nick. SFA has long had a policy of taking the national team around the country, especially for U21 and Ladies etc, and so it should. But for the big games in the big tournaments Hampden is the spiritual home. Emotionally or practically, it's still the best option.
  3. I enjoyed the packed bar today. Gave it more of a big-match feel. Nice atmosphere.
  4. Willie Rennie. Waste of fresh air. John Candy's love child - she polled 1400 or so votes at the last election. What does she represent?
  5. You mental? Guaranteed three points at the great Hampden giveaway. Was it you lot that did the Hippo in?
  6. Falkirk's a good club for developing young potential. Good opportunity for an exciting young player. Good luck to him. Good deal for EF keeping him until the summer.
  7. That was the best team I've seen at this level since Alloa got promoted. Better than both the Forfar and Dumbarton selections we played this season. So your club is probably living in a special time. Just go.
  8. I'm sure it'll all be good fun and community spirited......
  9. Just been up the toon. Absolutely buzzing. Great to get two towns like these two represented today. Guid luck to both sets of fans, especially those that travel away regularly and are there in darker times. May the best team (with an FK postcode) win :
  10. I witnessed their 20 minute farce in Falkirk on Saturday. Their proposition to the people was to abolish the Barnett; scrap the NHS in Scotland and take us out of Europe. That was it.
  11. ...subject to change for live TV coverage...from the SPFL website. Hampden's always a soft touch for TV companies. dates might stay the same but times could vary.
  12. Berwick Mad, like so many in Northern England, doesn't know what a legitimate third option really is. Maybe he could make a difference to the future rather than just belittle those who have a pair.It was a master stroke by Cameron to buddy up with his old Oxbridge chum. The Liberals/Social Democrats/LibDems dealt in rhetoric for decades. As soon as they were given a little responsibility they proved to be even more useless than was imagined. It's one of the great things about being in a very small minority; you can say what you want without fearing you'll ever be called to account. Bit like the Tory party in Scotland.
  13. Rare picture of the opening game at Third Hampden. QP v Celtic, 1-0 victory to the home team. Lots more pictures of the old ground here...might provoke happy memories of cup finals and internationals for some. http://www.qpfc.com/hampden/hampden01.htm
  14. You're welcome The Hampden you see is actually the third Hampden. The second Hampden is also in the picture, the green patch about a third down and in from the left. When Third Hampden was built in 1903 Second Hampden became the home of Third Lanark and renamed Cathkin Park. Lesser Hampden is to the left of the main stadium. Cathkin still exists as a playing venue managed by Glasgow City Council. Third Lanark lives on as a community-based amateur club and have ambition to reclaim the old ground. There's a petition here if you have time for a good cause. Good luck to them. http://www.third-lanark.co.uk/cathkin-park-appeal/cathkin-park-appeal/ Smashing thread btw
  15. http://www.queensparkfc.co.uk/?p=8081 Seemed to have passed in Australia.
  16. It's just the doe-a-deer thing for me. What's that all about? Usually starts about 15 minutes in as the beer is wearing off and the realisation kicks in that the fitba's still shite. Back in the 70s that was about the same time Rangers fans started fighting each other so things are better but surely there's something more relevant to Scotland can be found rather than a nun singing to weans up a Tyrolean mountain?
  17. Don't understand the fuss here. Falkirk guy walks into a bar and starts belting pompous twats. Just another Saturday really.
  18. Firstly, the official polls haven't a clue what's going on at the moment. there following the same techniques that were applied fifty years ago. Everywhere I look on social media there's an overwhelming favour toward YES. Secondly, there's a massive percentage of the registered vote who haven't voted before, in any political vote. General elections muster about 60-65% of registered voters, local elections are often half that. With 97% of voters registered we're surely looking at 90% voting tomorrow. So that means the best part of a third of these voters are unknown to the pollsters. A lot of the pollsters results are based on algorithms and historical data, completely useless in this event. Thirdly, if pollsters were so believable why is there such a variance in outcomes. Fourthly, if pollsters were any use at all why did they get it so magnificently wrong at the last Scottish election. The pollsters repeatedly showed the Lib Dems running neck and neck with Labour at the last UK election. On the night, Labour had 29% of the vote and LD only 23%. Most awful statistic for last. The Tories mustered 36% of a 65% turnout, meaning less than 24% of the population voted for what we have today. There's got to be a better way than that.
  19. Maybe The Sun will have a free egg offer the morra
  20. Do you seriously give any credence to these orchestrated polls. they are a very small survey group with very little appropriate filtering of demographics. I see you're along way off from home but what's happening on the streets today is phenomenal and paints a very different picture.
  21. The same group of people who either were too inept to see the world's worst global recession or, in many cases, too corrupt to blow the whistle and instead lined their trousers and got in the only lifeboat whilst the ship went down. These are definitely the kind of people we want to be listening to. Aye right!
  22. I accept all you say but this post typifies the bunker mentality of Rangers fans now. You're so focused on defending the past, like every Rangers fans post I've seen on this topic, you're in danger of letting the future be the same. Your defence is 'what could we have done?' Well, here's a couple of ideas. In the big world outside of football, what's referred to as the private sector, when shareholders aren't getting a return on their investment they take their money elsewhere. If your board won't listen, sell your shares or at very least stop buying new ones to underpin this insanity. Secondly, don't buy season books. Don't buy programmes. Don't buy pies. Don't buy replica shirts, bedsheets, lamps, wallets or anything else that feeds the monster that treats you like slaves. Rangers fans pride themselves on being part of something special but in reality they're all scared to lose their favourite seat. You have much more power than you understand. It just takes a leader to make it happen. As we say in the private sector; failure plus good excuses still equals failure.
