Mighty Montrose FC Thread
groaninjock replied to GableEnder21's topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
One of our problems is that our experienced players are mostly mid-to-late 30s rather than late 20s/early 30s (Steeves the exception) , and our breakthrough prospects are kids. We've a small cluster of players between those two categories - Lyons, Brown, Waddell, Quinn, Machado, Hester - but not really any demonstrative leaders in the middle of the park if the old boys are injured/suspended/rested. I'd agree that we need one or two central players who can put their foot on the ball and try to keep some calm in the middle of the park; an alternative up front to Hester and Hermiston; a new right back; cover for left back; and another one or two centre backs to cover for Dillon, Quinn and Waddell. -

A player I never really rated, never saw him do anything that couldn't be done better by someone else in the squad. I think I'm in the minority there though. SP was clearly a fan, and I'd wager he knows a lot more about football than me, thankfully. -
🔴🔵 The Caley v Montrose 🔵🔵
groaninjock replied to Stephen Malkmus's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Montrose easily the better of the two sides in the first half, but I was/am worried that we didn't manage to take any of the chances that we created. The legs were looking a bit heavy towards the end, but the determination to dig in and see off the late rally from Caley was superb. Considering our form over most of the past few months, we've really kicked it up a couple of gears these past two weeks. Lyons was the 'official' man of the match last night, but you could have made a case for at least half a dozen of the Montrose players - Dillon showed why he's still a first choice centre back in his 40s, and Brown's work rate was immense. I'm still worried that we've not taken a lead up to Inverness, but if we at least put in the same effort on Saturday as we did last night, no-one will be able to say we didn't give it a good go. -
Petrie's Ponies vs The Rennie Express

If Nesbitt was half the player he thinks he is, he'd be twice the player I think he is. -

I think the Champions League has been awful for football. With a few exceptions, it has concentrated money and power in the hands of fewer than a dozen clubs, to the detriment of all others. The matches are stale and lifeless. It doesn't matter who gets drawn in what group, you can pretty much pick 12 of the last 16 without too much guesswork required. Give me the European Cup - champions only, unseeded draw - any day.

After reading an interview with PP Arnold in this month's Uncut, I listened to Marchin' Already by Ocean Colour Scene for the first time in a very long time this morning. The album is patchy, but It's A Beautiful Thing is magnificent.

Albums regarded as classics that are absolute gash

Off the top of my head: Everything ever released by Bruce Springsteen - fairly acceptable bar-room rock, but by no means genius. Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits - see above. Is This It by The Strokes - just gash. Tuneless, whiny drivel. Last Nite is not bad, the rest is pish. There's a Riot Goin' On by Sly and The Family Stone - maybe I just didn't get it, but I heard nothing on this one that made me ever want to hear it again. Any album by Belle and Sebastian - twee pish. Just f**k off. And another vote for Pet Sounds - 12 tracks of filler surrounding one piece of stone cold genius. -
If you were going to create a Mount Rushmore of music, which four people's faces would you have on it? Not just Americans, but you need to pick individual band members where necessary. No more than four individuals. I'd go with Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Headphones - wireless or wired
groaninjock replied to dundeefc1783's topic in The E-Chat Technology Forum
I've never found a pair of wireless headphones that can match my PSB MSU2s for sound quality. -
Exodus is top notch. Got rid of my Chinese Android box as it wouldn't come out of standby, or if it did it would reset every 10 seconds. Got Amazon Fire TV instead, side-loaded Kodi and haven't had any problems so far. Exodus running like a charm for everything we've tried so far - Jake and The Neverland Pirates, Dora The Explorer, Scooby-Doo...oh, and the first series of Shetland...

Scotlands last genuine world class player?
groaninjock replied to RobbieD's topic in Tartan Army Ramblings
Souness. He was world class, I don't think Hansen was. And he played until later than Dalglish. Goram's a good shout though. Possibly the best Scottish player of his generation. -
