  1. The guys running Penicuik Athletic have been extremely courteous and a credit to their club in the two cup matches we have played against them this season. Their manager Lewis Coult missed the game on Saturday, so assistant Gavin Burrell was in charge of the team.
  2. In terms of financial resources, you're probably right. However we're a third of the way through the season and there are lots of teams in the mix. Don't rule out Ashfield (currently 10th). They seem to blow a bit hot and cold going by their results, but when they're hot they're hot, as their "goals for" column shows. What about at the other end ? Whitletts look to be in trouble without a win so far, but perhaps their change of management might spark something now. Who do we see being the candidates for the drop in six months' time ?
  3. With four points separating the top 7 teams ? I think the answer is obvious.
  4. Thanks for your concern, but we've worked out when we want to arrive and where we're stopping and for how long.
  5. No, but there were some Scottish Junior Cup ties played.
  6. We're making a habit of these late late goals, but I'm not complaining ! Going into the last five minutes we were a goal behind in a game which we had dominated for the most part, and missed a penalty. It didn't seem like our day. But a late equaliser and a 94th minute winner gave us another big jumparound moment, and saved us from extra time. That was a good match for the neutral to watch, as was our game v Penicuik in The Scottish Cup as well. Eleven goals over the two matches. On to sunny Campbeltown next week now.
  7. Everyone who is a regular fan of this level of football knows the difference, agreed. But the thousands of "extra fans" who come now and then are confused by it, trust me. I can point you to several fans who thought Cambuslang Rangers were playing in The Scottish Cup this season just because their SJC match was on the same day as Glencairn playing in TSC.
  8. The Scottish Junior Cup is still a very attractive competition and it has a huge emotional pull for people who don't regularly follow clubs at our level. For example, the crowd at last season's South Region Challenge Cup Final was around 400, while the crowd at the Scottish Junior Cup Final at the same venue a week later was around ten times that size. I know for certain that Glencairn wouldn't have sold 1400+ tickets had we reached the South Region Challenge Cup Final. What does irritate me slightly, though, is people referring to the Scottish Junior Cup as the "Scottish Cup". It confuses people who don't follow clubs regularly at our level. The clubs who are eligible to play in The Scottish Cup put in huge amounts of work each year and have also invested lots of money into their facilities and club infrastructure to be able to enter the competition each year. They deserve the distinction to be made regarding the competition names in recognition for their efforts. Just my opinion.
  9. Bear in mind that Kennie is having to work this around the rules of several different organisations. For example, the teams in leagues run by the SJFA may expect their games to be rescheduled for next Saturday, but if their opponents are WoSFL or EoSFL teams then it's likely that they're already scheduled for South Region Challenge Cup ties, and then the following weekend it's the WoSFL Cup. In the past the Scottish Junior Cup would just have taken priority over everything, but now it's very different, and it's a bit of a jigsaw for Kennie to solve. I notice from the SJFA website that only certain games have already been rescheduled and others haven't, so Kennie is obviously still working his way through the turmoil and needs to be given space to do it. Yesterday's weather couldn't have come on a worse weekend for Kennie, to be fair. Had it been just league matches needing rescheduled it would have been much simpler for everyone, but having the round of the Scottish Junior Cup with the largest number of teams involved at any stage of the competition thrown into disarray has caused some issues. I've no doubt a few league matches will be rearranged to accomodate the rescheduled Cup ties, I think that's inevitable given the sheer number of postponements, but I'm certain these will be kept to an absolute minimum.
  10. I don't think there were any Scottish Cup ties scheduled today.
  11. To be fair, the league season is already a third of the way through after only two months, and there are eight months left for the remaining two thirds to be played.
  12. We too have no league fixture for the whole month of October, and we have no fixture on the last Saturday in October, because Kilwinning are playing in The Scottish Cup. There are other teams with the same situation.
  13. Yeh fair enough. I may change my mind in a few weeks.
  14. I would imagine there are very few matches in the fixtures bank at the moment, the weather has been fine so far this season and Kennie will have left most of the cup match Saturdays free from league matches up to this point. So are you suggesting he moves matches which are currently scheduled for Saturdays forward to midweek dates in anticipation of bad weather that might not happen, reducing crowds and income for the home teams and increasing costs due to the use of lights, and also potentially bringing the season end date forward from its current schedule of mid March ? There's no need for it at the moment in my personal opinion. Others will disagree, which is their right to express.
  15. With the end of the league fixtures currently scheduled for mid March, I see no reason to panic and start asking for games to be played under lights in midweek with lower crowds, when they could be played on a Saturday later in the season, or when teams exit cup competitions creating other available Saturdays.
  16. Glencairn are idle on 28th October because Kilwinning are playing in The Scottish Cup. Them's the breaks, as they say. Kilwinning are not the only club without a league match in October, Glencairn also don't have a league fixture in October, in fact as it stands at the moment we have no league fixture until 11th November.
  17. If you watch the video, you'll notice that Gerry muted the crowd during the goal celebrations, as he was filming from the shed and you can imagine the reaction to the goal.
  18. A third of the league season played, and sitting in second place, one point off top, and having already played the first and third placed teams away from home. I'll accept that. We don't have another scheduled league match now till mid November, although that might change, but we have three weeks of cup ties to look forward to now and then we'll see if the schedule changes in any way. That was a good win for us yesterday, no matter the standard of the opposition, Kilbirnie is never an easy place to get a win. We weren't at our best in the first half, but we were much better second half and we got the reward for our persistence. It was nice to see Jay McKay scoring the winner after getting some verbals from the shed for being an ex-Beith player.
  19. It is paid on exit from the competition. The travel money has to be applied for but ours was approved and paid very quickly.
  20. The exit fee at round 2 is £6500. The exit fee at round 3 is £9500.
