  1. The big spending clubs will undoubtedly have an advantage over the clubs who can't go out and spend money like that. So Johnstone Burgh, Drumchapel United, Kilwinning Rangers (not necessarily in that order) will unquestionably have an advantage over the likes of Petershill, Blantyre, Shotts, Glencairn and Ashfield. When we're short of striking options, we've signed a talented u20s player on loan. When Kilwinning are short of striking options, they go and buy a top rated striker from Auchinleck Talbot. There's the difference.
  2. I can't take any credit for the highlights, that's all Gerry's work. Yeh it was hard to argue with a point each on the balance of the game. We played the majority of the game without a striker as McManus got injured early and couldn't continue and we had no other strikers on the bench, so that blunted our threat somewhat, although young Austin Sime (a midfielder) put in a decent shift as a makeshift forward. The red card for our goalkeeper in the last minute was a ridiculous decision, having seen the video. Even if Scott Law did handle outside the area (questionable), there is no way in the world that it could be described as "denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity", as our defender Alan Dunsmore was shielding the ball back to Law and would unquestionably have cleared the ball had Law not grabbed it.
  3. funky, what were your thoughts on the game v Glencairn last weekend ?
  4. The Strathclyde Cup offers a route to a place in The Scottish Cup for those teams in the WoSFL who don't currently have that possibility due to not being members of the Scottish FA or the SJFA. So it is literally the opposite of "pointless".
  5. Another draw against a promotion contender in Kilwinning Rangers, and again it's hard to grumble with the outcome. I thought we created the better chances and came closest to scoring, but after our goalie was sent off in the 89th minute we were happy to take the point. Five points separating the top seven teams. We've played two of them in the past two weeks, and we have another three of them to play in our next four games. If we're still in touch with the promotion issue after that (given we'll have played most of them twice by that point), then I'll start to think we may have a chance of a top 3 finish. Time will tell.
  6. Glencairn have signed striker Adam Cummings (19) on loan from Pollok until the end of the season. Adam has scored 32 goals so far this season for Pollok's u20s team and has now signed and extended deal with Pollok for next season.
  7. A change to the qualification criteria for the play-offs would require the agreement of all parties to the agreement. It's not a matter that the WoSFL can rule on by themselves.
  8. Two teams playing good attacking football in a good spirit, both going for the win right to the end. No yellow cards in a game which was refereed excellently by Barry Cook. A draw was a fair outcome but both teams were probably disappointed at the outcome as it was an opportunity missed with the other teams in the top five all failing to win.
  9. That was a really good game between two good sides today, and a draw was just about right in the end. Glens dominated the first half and the early part of the second and we should have been further ahead, but Drumchapel had a very strong bench and made a few tactical tweaks, and their substitutes all made a big impact. Drum dominated the final quarter and we were hanging on for the draw at the end. Peasy lost and Blantyre and Kilwinning also drew, so we haven't lost any ground on the teams above us, although Shotts, Ashfield and Johnstone Burgh have closed up below us. Lots of teams will fancy their chances of going up, and not just the teams who are spending big money.
  10. And yet Benburb are above you in the league........
  11. So, on that theory, if you beat a team from the bottom half of two leagues below you (at home), you reckon that means you will go on to win the competition, ignoring the fact that Auchinleck Talbot, Benburb, Arthurlie, Hurlford United, St Cadoc's, Lochee United and Johnstone Burgh are all still in the competition as well ?
  12. The 4th round is 24th February. As there are a number of 2nd and 3rd round ties still to be played, the draw will be scheduled for after the rescheduled dates for those ties.
  13. A hugely disappointing result and performance from us today, a chance to go 2nd blown and instead we slip down to 5th. One up at half time and looking fairly comfortable, we just collapsed after the non-awarding of what should have been a red card to a Renfrew defender. A few minutes later it was bang bang and suddenly we were behind and never recovered. Two big home games now, weather permitting, v Drumchapel United and Kilwinning Rangers. Good opportunities to bounce back. But we'll need to play better than the second half today.
  14. I really hope Beith are able to secure their Licence, the club is extremely well run and they deserve the opportunity to progress. One stumbling block (hopefully not) could be proving security of tenure, which for us at Glencairn involved sending copies of the Land Register and the title deeds to the stadium. If there is a debate over who actually owns Bellsdale then that may be difficult. But as I said, hopefully not.
  15. West of Scotland Football League Championship Rules 2023-24, Rule 14b :- "Clubs can make an application in writing to the Fixture Secretary to bring forward or defer a scheduled fixture. Such an application must be made by both clubs and upon application, both clubs shall detail any existing player suspensions that will be served on or before the new proposed date. Any application must be received by the Fixture Secretary not later than 7 days before the proposed new date to bring a game forward, or 7 days before the date of the original fixture for a deferred fixture. A change will not be sanctioned if it is thought that it is an attempt to circumvent the disciplinary process or to gain an advantage in any other way. The Fixture Secretary will consider each application on its’ merit and his decision is binding and final." The Constitution and Rules are set by the clubs, as is the case in all member-run leagues. The Board (elected by the clubs) are only there to administer the rules that the clubs set.
  16. If both clubs are in agreement and both clubs request the change, and that change doesn't impact on the integrity of the competition, then generally that change is accepted by the league.
  17. Yes there is, the SJFA sends the list out to its member clubs every week, but the list doesn't just detail players at SJFA clubs, it is all Scottish FA released players.
  18. "J-Cup" matches (assuming you mean the Scottish Junior Cup) do not automatically move to the following Saturday the way they used to. It may be that the Fixtures Secretary deems that to be the case, however it is not an automatic assumption.
  19. You can try to mock all you like, but until you have the slightest idea what you're talking about everyone will continue to read your posts and roll their eyes.
