  1. Just go. A parallel story but got a dog from Barnard Castle (no joke!) at the weekend. (Animal welfare is allowable travel btw before the PnB qwality polis get to me).
Just use common sense, stay outside and stay apart and you’ll be fine. Biggest danger IMHO in your plan is the train trip! Better driving yourself there n back. Despite what you might have been led to believe, there are no Border guards.
You've confused animal welfare with buying a dog.

I've heard of people travelling to Wales for new cars and mid england for dogs, but they did so knowing that they shouldn't.
  2. Chris Smith is a policeman too, so I think Denny may have had to stop football during police training, that used to be a residential thing over a number of months.

Apologies if I have missed something completely... but when did Danny retire? Still listed on the website in the squad and things.
I may have missed this to be fair, there hasn't been too much to shout about with the football so I haven't been spending all that much time on here recently.

  3. Discussion now amongst the experts seems to be about how we live with the virus, so it could well be that restrictions inc social distancing are in place for a good while yet.

Mind the R rate is only one part of the info the experts consider, they also look at hospital capacity and other factors

Imo the decision over any restrictions (including those on football) should come down to whether or not they will have a notable impact on the overall caseload. Lets not forget that the lockdown is to 'protect the NHS'. 500 tested people going from their home, to a football stadium, to home again, once a week doesn't look like it would pose much of a risk. If anyone has a link to the cases connected with the lower leagues though then I'd be more than happy to eat those words.
I still cannot understand why a restart wasn't geared towards the usual stage of the season in August time when infection rates were around 1.1 per 100,000. But I guess 'Zero Covid' was still being chased then. If we are waiting to get back to those levels then we can wave goodbye to next season, and probably the season after that though. It would be difficult to see clubs surviving that length of a shutdown too. Let alone the pretty catastrophic impact such a move would have on football in this country. Released by Dunfermline or Queen of the South? No more football for you.
  4. I think the timing around the suspension of leagues below the championship fuels the conspiracy theories. If I remember right, some of the junior teams / leagues had publicly raised concerns late in the week before, then the celtic Dubai controversy kicked off over the weekend and the leagues were suspended early in the next week. Easy to suspect that the Celtic issue was a factor in that decision, but not necessarily correct.

  5. I'm driving a 2016 grand cmax and had a 2006 cmax a few cars before that.

If its space you're after, the grand cmax, s max and galaxy are good options. They're also great to drive

My Dad bought a pre reg touran 1.9 tdi in 2006, it's still in the family now with over 160k on it.

I've had it for holidays, one of my brothers for a few months and now my other brother has it full of decorating stuff. It's never broken down (jinx) and is still going strong.

They're great solid, no frills, plain old ronseal motoring.

I had a golf estate 1.9 tdi with 70k on it when it broke a piston. The car was comfy enough, but the touran was much better when loaded up with a family of 5 and gear.

  7. Sounds to me like brabco have made a poor investment.

When we sat through their proposals at the public meetings what I understood of it was that if they didn't get the housing at renton they couldn't fund the new ground. If they cant build a new ground then they cant leave the Rock and when the rock site is emptied, it needs a lot of remedial work to sell it on.

    They're prospectors, not investors.

  8. Had to call a breakdown company out once to change a tyre, but that was because the wheel had got stuck on the hub with rust. Theres only so much lying under the car booting it can achieve, sometimes you need a man with a hammer. In that instance the mechanic pulled it off using a ratchet strap tied from the wheel to his van.

My advice would be to have both call out cover and ability to do it yourself

  9. I've started buying used bikes for my kids from the likes of Bike for Good in Glasgow.

Normally a decent choice of bike at a good price, checked and serviced properly and the profits go back into charity work.

I've had 3 bikes from there now and they've all been good deals.

Can anyone talk to me about bikes for kids. 5 year old lassie needs one for xmas, but I just cant stretch to a frog bike.
  10. Borrowed my Dads spare road bike yesterday as I'm thinking of changing my hybrid for one. Took it on a great ride to Balloch and then Glen Fruin.

Noticeably faster and less comfortable than my heavier bike, but then a lot of that I think is down to saddle shape and tyre size.

The Glen Fruin road is a wee country road that connects the Balloch area to Garelochhead, a couple of steep hills but in the main its through quiet farmland.

  11. I loved our C4GP, hope you enjoy it

Update on my 3 kid car quandary. Have settled for a c4 grand picasso and so far delighted with my choice. Can't remember what the trim type is called but it's the middle one in the range so got everything I really need without the extra fandan gadgets that would probably just end up causing problems anyway seeing as it's French! Just under 3 years old and 18k on the clock ( dozens of same age ones on sale across various dealers with mileages seeming to average about 30-40k) so should hopefully do me for the next 3-4 years no problem untill both boys are out of car seats.

Fits the 2 boys in car seats plus the new arrival in an isofix base that swivels across the middle 3 seats perfectly with each seat still being able to be adjusted independently, really glad I went for the 3 full seats across the middle now as would be really annoyed with myself if they ended up still getting crushed in just for the sake of a slightly bigger boot or more stylish looks. Can fit the wee yin's full pram system along with both boys' bikes in the boot and still have the parcel shelf drawn over.

Deal clincher was taking it for a test drive and finding it drives remarkably well. Has a really comfortable driving position and surprisingly decent performance, it is in no way like steering a big boat around and being stuck at 50 going up hills like I was worrying it may be and imo it is the nicest looking of all the big family wagons out there. All in all ideal for my current requirements, can't comment on reliability yet but hopefully won't be any updates in that department!
  12. The 52 plate had about 70k on it when the fuel pump went. It was the 1.5 diesel and the advice was to get rid because of the likelihood of debris being pumped to the second pump and fuel injectors and the larger expense needed to fix that. I checked on it using the mot checker a few years ago and it was still running with over 100k on it.

The c4gp was a bargain, 3 years old ex motability but with 67k on it already. We had it for about 4 or 5 years so it was around 110k when we traded it in. The mechanic I sold it to ran it for a bit as a bus for his child minder wife, but only for so long.

What kind of age/mileage did the Citroën have on them before starting to give u problems?
  13. I've had a 52 picasso, an 06 cmax, a 57 grand picasso and now a 65 plate grand cmax.

I got rid of both citroens when they started breaking down, they were great motors for the family; huge, practical and comfy. I got rid of the picasso when the fuel pump went and I was advised to get rid. This was quite a basic model and it was the only problem it ever gave us. The grand picasso was the exclusive model and everything fancy on it broke at some point; egs gearbox bearings, egr valve, electronic handbrake, air suspension and compressor. When it was running it was a great motor. I would have another but not with all the bells and whistles.

The two fords aren't quite 3 full size seats across the back, but take my 3 easily now they're all out of car seats. The 2 fords have been good motors for us, but I would have loved the smax or galaxy.

Looking to get a car with 3 full size seats along the back due to the imminent arrival of child number 3. Research seems to point me towards a Citroën c4 grand spacetourer/Picasso giving best bang for its buck, does anyone have any experience of these or class rivals eg Ford S-max etc..
  14. Glad you're not badly hurt, hope you can get out again soon.

Had a fairly nasty crash yesterday - on a really quiet country / farm road - came to a downhill section with multiple tight corners and skidded on some gravel....went onto the grass verge and lost control....went heid first over handlebars and laned on grass and tarmac.  My head and should took most of the impact.  I am absolutely certain that had I not been wearing a helmet I would have been knocked out (or worse) My head hit the tar with a lot of force and today i have fairly sizeable lump on my forehead and quite extensive bruising.  Took a fair bit of skin off my shoulder too.
I recall the debate on here a few weeks ago about the benefits or not of a helmet - I wear one all the time and would have had serious injuries yesterday had I not worn mine - if I am all bruised and lump on head from the impact whilst wearing one....doesnt bare thinking about

  15. The tip I remember is that at the bottom of the stroke to bring your foot back as if scraping shite off your shoe.

For me, that means trying to flex my ankle on the way through

I have a tekkers related question.... When pedalling obviously the cleats are nearer the toe end of the foot, when you are pushing down should you be pushing down through your heel? I feel that most of my power is generated only from my quads, and my arse/hamstrings/calf really dont engage much at all. What's the right technique for pedalling?
  16. Your body will definitely change, I've found that I had to reduce my running and football in order to still enjoy it. I was able to replace it at the time with the gym and swimming, I started yoga recently too and really got something from that.

What if you set your class or session times up as being exercise time? Normally go to Spin at 6 on a Tuesday, then that's your cycling time.

The lack of routine is hugely unsettling, I didn't appreciate how busy our week nights were until they were suddenly empty.

Unfortunately, despite the best of intentions in the beginning, the lockdown and gym closures have resulted in me piling on the pounds. Now I am the heaviest I’ve ever been but more worryingly it is the least fit I have ever been. Not a complete mess but fear that it will take a monumental shift in mindset to get back on track.

Started slowly today, just went on a head clearing walk and will begin a series of different workouts that will hopefully kick-start my metabolism and motivation.

Have weights in the house and a bike (with plenty of cycle routes around). My main issue is definitely motivation and I am guilty of being someone who has to be in the ‘right’ environment to be in the zone for exercise. Pre-lockdown I was in spin classes, indoor football and multiple gym visits a week. Now that I lack those facilities I’ve seriously dipped in motivation.

My other worry is age and getting going. I’m 37 in a few weeks and worry that my body will take a huge break like this, and then subsequent kick-start, quite badly and that I might struggle to get back to where I was, and/or begin to suffer from injuries.

I’ve got a 2 year old who is my main motivator, so just need to keep him as a focus, rather than trying to get back to a fitness level that I maybe had ten years ago which is now possibly a bit unrealistic now.
  17. I couldn't find the picture, but when Mark Dempsey was playing for us we played partick thistle at ours.

We had black shorts, yellow top with black sleeves, they had black shorts and a top that was half yellow half red.

Depending on which way the thistle players were running everyone looked the same. Ref had us change at half time. I'm sure Davie Craig captained thistle that day and there was the standard pre kick off photo with the captains and ref

I also think no.4 could confuse me. If all the players are facing the same way e.g at a goal kick, it'll look like we're wearing an all black/white from the side of the pitch.
  18. I'm coaching a 2011s team and want to do something to prepare for starting back, but dont know where to start.

So many questions and unknowns about facilities, coaches, games and players it doesn't seem worth trying to do anything just now.

One thing is for sure, if the efl and spfl cant get teams training and put closed door games on with all the tools at their disposal, we wont be doing anything. That's probably a good marker.
