Was just looking at his stats. He was 15-20 yards shorter off the tee than the field average, but hit 79% of fairways compared to the field's 70%. Where he fell down was in GIR, only hitting 50% of them. He had one double bogey over the two days, and that was on 16 on Thursday after finding water off the tee. He also only had 1 three putt over his two rounds. That's bloody good golf imo.

Whatever his record is, it's testament to Sandy's ability that he turns up at Augusta and at The Open every year but rarely embarrasses himself, despite playing very little competitive golf in between times. Bear in mind he was only a few shots worse off here than guys like Hatton, Wolff and Molinari.

You would think that woukd be the case, but it wasn't. 93 players this year compared to 87 last year and in 2018. Every qualification spot was filled except that of Olympic Gold Medallist. 17 ex Champions sat it out including Garcia, while Joaquin Niemann also missed out with Covid.

With the "invitation" system that they use at Augusta, Sandy playing or not playing has no effect on anybody except him. Nobody else gets in if he sits it out. Top 50 in the World Rankings who haven't already been invited by another route get the nod, MacIntyre was heading in the right direction before Covid halted everything. He was back up to 63rd last week after winning in Cyprus.
