  1. Doesn't actually take over until next summer, Scott Johnston will remain in charge until then.
  2. Heartbreaking defeat for Glasgow Warriors in Dublin last night, going down 17-15 with Stuart Hogg missing a conversion that would have tied it after Mark Bennett scored a cracking try. Leinster were terrific in defence with Rob Kearney having one of the best try saving tackles you'll ever see, managing to get under Ryan Grant as he crashed over the try line. Ulster v Leinster next week in the final, the Lions management must be watching these games through their fingers. Last night was a terrific match and very physical, Brian O'Donnell went off injured and a few others took big whacks with Heaslip getting a belter of a cut above his eye. Some daft penalties cost Glasgow though with them outscoring the home side by 2 tries to 1.
  3. Googled it and was surprised to find that there were 3 in that squad, with Gordon Bulloch, Simon Taylor and Chris Cusiter selected. Jason White was called up as a replacement later on.Ross Ford, Euan Murray, Nathan Hines and Mike Blair were picked in 2009. Andy Nicol was on last night, am I imagining it or did he end up on the bench for the last test in Oz in 2001 because he was out there watching as a fan and they had run out of scrum halves?
  4. Still a good chance that players who are not in the original squad will take part in the Tests, injuries are almost inevitable on a tour like this. Ryan Grant very unlucky not to be picked and it must have been a fairly close call between Visser and Maitland, with the latter's southern hemisphere experience giving him the nod.
  5. Glasgow have just humped Munster 51-24, stunning second half performance. 6 tries in total with Maitland, Matawalu, Jackson, Bennett, Hogg and Barclay all going over.
  6. Anquan Boldin signs for the 49ers. Nice one.
  7. Alex Smith traded to the Chiefs for 2 draft picks.
  8. Glasgow go top of the table after a win over Cardiff Blues after being behind at half time, while Ulster surprisingly drew at home against Treviso.
  9. I know the pitch was pretty awful but Horne's inability to put over even the simplest of kicks could have cost Glasgow the match and handed Ulster a losing bonus point that they shouldn't have got. Matawalu is different class, wish he had a Scottish granny hiding somewhere.
  10. I think the continuity with the rest of the staff has certainly helped, but I wonder how much influence Lineen has had in his new player recruitment role with the likes of Matawalu and Maitland coming in. It was a good result on Friday with so many players out for the international season.
  11. Standing in Another Man's Grave - Ian Rankin, typical Rebid fare with him causing mayhem for everyone around him. 8/10
  12. Watching Glasgow Warriors winning away at the Dragons in the Pro12, 41-3 ahead with 15 to go and the try bonus point already in the bag. I honestly feared the worst when they replaced Lineen with Townsend but they're playing really well this season. Alex Dunbar has had a great game tonight with Matawalu and Weir calling the shots. Ended up Dragons 3 Warriors 60!
  13. Lanced - The Shaming of Lance Armstrong by David Walsh on the Kindle, a collection of his Sunday Times articles going back to 1999, with a couple of other pieces by others including Paul Kimmage. Walsh has consistently been suspicious about Armstrong and has never waivered in his belief that there was something not quite right about his miraculous comeback from cancer, and how a rider who had ridden 4 tours prior to his cancer and hadn't looked anything special came back after illness to ride the fastest Tour ever. The Sunday Times are another one of the companies who will be chasing LA for cash after he had successfully sued them.
  14. Read Obree's a few weeks ago, it's a tragedy that someone who was so good at what he did thought so little of himself , he was superb when his mind was in the right place. Unfortunately he was in darker places more often.
  15. A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle. I've read a lot of the short stories but none of the novels, got a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas and downloaded the complete Sherlock Holmes collection for free. Excellent read and looking forward to the rest of them.
  16. Trainer Donnie McKerral in that pic is still a regular at Petershill, he was our sponge man for many years and has been a member of the football club for a long time. Showed him that picture the last time it came up on here.
  17. Think you can start to relax a bit now...
  18. A better second half from Edinburgh but Glasgow won 23-14.
  19. Glasgow v Edinburgh on BBC Alba just now, Glasgow dominating the game and are 17-0 up after 25 minutes, would be more but they've missed a couple of kicks.
  20. Another leg blown by Anderson, 2-0 down and in trouble now.
  21. That was a brilliant set from both players.
