  1. I posted this almost a year ago to the day. How times change. Anyone got a copy of the season saved from about the end of November that we can re-load and try again?
  2. Even if they have offered him a deal on more cash, I like to think that it wouldn’t “come down to if Rovers match it”. Of course it could be an enormous increase in which case who could blame him but if it’s a few hundred pounds a month in his pocket then I’d like to think that the attachment he has to the Rovers, competing in a higher league, less chance of getting the sack if he doesn’t get promoted, and having the nucleus of a squad he assembled himself already in place would tempt him to stay. Having said that, if the Rovers board are willing to lose McGlynn over a few quid without a belter of a manager already lined up then they need their heads examined.
  3. I apologise for starting the debate on Brown- I thought the general consensus was that he was a dick but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The little I know about him is enough for me to form a negative opinion on him which I thought was shared by the majority. Probably best to draw a line under the chat about him. Anyway…. McGlynn to stay is my vote. Has his flaws but better the devil you know.
  4. Have seen Scott Browns name mentioned a few times. If we’re serious about rebuilding the clubs reputation as a family and community club then we need to avoid horrible humans such as Scott Brown like the plague.
  5. You're right, but the point our Texan friend was making is that Thistle are not guaranteed to be in the play-offs, as was mentioned by the previous poster. However unlikely it is (and your 1 in 1000 seems about right) it is still mathematically possible for Raith to get 4th place. But aye, it's never going to happen.
  6. It feels really wrong to contradict someone who has created such an exceptional model in excel, but when it became clear that Dunfermline and Ayr had identical records they looked into it on Sportsound and confirmed that if it’s like that at the end of the season then it will be decided by head-to-head. Dunfermline are ahead in that measure since they have two wins and a draw.
  7. The manager we had for the first half of the season was even better than Dougie Imrie. Unfortunately the one we’ve had for the second half is worse than Gus MacPherson.
  8. Four outfield players on the bench, all of them attackers. Ooft.
  9. The stands behind the goals had to be the size they are to allow us to meet the 10,000 all-seater requirement which was in place for the premier at the time we got promoted. You’re right though, smaller stands behind each goal with people in the railway stand would make the ground far better.
  10. I wouldn’t say we look like getting 4th. I know you lot are awful but you still managed to scrape a win last night. We rode our luck against Queens last Sunday when the league pressure was off. We’re six points behind you with a significantly worse goal difference and a game in hand. Even if we beat you in the head to head, our remaining three games are Morton, Hamilton and Killie. I’d be surprised if we manage four points out of that lot, never mind four points more than you manage in your other two remaining games against Dunfermline and Ayr. So in short, for us to finish fourth we need to beat Morton today and you next week and then hope we collect more points from Hamilton and Killie than you do from Ayr and Dunfermline. Unlikely.
  11. It all depends on where you sit on the cynical/trustful scale. I’m clearly less cynical that you are- the way I see it is that TAG games publicly stated they wanted their name removed from the strips immediately. So our options were to play with a blank space on our away strip or find another sponsor. It’s very unlikely that any other business would willingly pay to be associated with us so a director paying to put his business name on the front helps the club. I don’t really see the issue with it. I’m less amused that the club decided to forfeit the right to wear their home strip in a cup final. Raith Rovers should always play in blue if we have the choice to, regardless of whether we’ve had a falling out with the shirt sponsor. But overall, I don’t see SM electrical being on the away strip as a director taking advantage of the situation the club were in, in fact I’d say it’s the opposite and he’s helping the club (obviously not for no benefit to his business, but that’s the entire point of sponsorship).
  12. Pfft. Next you’ll be telling us it was FC Bayern 1 Raith Rovers FC 0 at half time.
  13. Some random thoughts on the game; Queens didn’t look like a team about to drop through the trap door for most of the game, but then again they never do look rancid against us. Our defence looked like they’d never played together before…. Which was pretty accurate. After the last few games when we’ve looked better with two up top I wasn’t convinced Zanatta for Varian was the right choice but the change in formation absolutely turned the game- Zanatta looked right up for it and we were the far better team after that. Matej looked possessed- he was magnificent, never stopped working and I’d be delighted if we sign him on a permanent deal. As for the day out, it’s exactly what younger fans need to get them hooked on diddy teams like ours. My 7yr old is not particularly interested but he really enjoyed the fact that the stand was packed, there was a fair bit of singing, he saw us score three goals and we lifted a trophy. That’s the sort of things that make kids want to come back again so to say this cup is pointless is absolutely missing the point.
  14. If this is how much time Grant spends commenting on a game between two teams he doesn’t support in a competition he thinks is irrelevant nonsense then imagine how much he posts in a pars match thread.
  15. It’d almost be worth Dunfermline winning the bloody thing next season just to see the u-turn from the usual suspects.
  16. Of course you’d rather go out in the first round than win it [emoji849]
  17. Anyone know how many fans the East stand holds? It must be 3-3,500ish? If we've sold 2,500ish then I'd imagine it'll feel pretty full.
  18. I take it you are an Airdrie resident? Are Clark street/Forest street on the 'wrong' side of the ground for Rovers fans in the East stand? On Google maps, Varnsdorf Way looks to be a decent bet for parking to the south of the ground- what do you think?
  19. How many times each week Campbell gets to work with them is the only relevant thing here. The general consensus these days is part time players in general do a lot of fitness work away from their official training days with the club so the gap in fitness between full-time and part-time is small. The only difference perhaps being that full-timers get more rest. The benefit of having a full-time squad is the players developing a better understanding with each other and the manager having more time to work with the squad. The full-time loan players Arbroath have give them neither of those benefits. But if saying they are hybrid makes you feel better about your full-time teams failings this season then bash on.
  20. It’s not correct though. Their full-time players will train with their parent clubs when they are not training with Arbroath. That’s obviously not how a hybrid system operates. The manager sees all of his players (even the full-time ones) 2 or 3 evenings a week and only has that time to train and prepare with them. In a hybrid system the manager will be able to work with his full-time players all day every day and add the part-timers in for the evening sessions. Which is clearly very different to what Arbroath do. So no, you’re not correct.
  21. No, it’s easy to say because you’ve never had to make the decision whether to accept the apology of someone who has made a horrendous decision, or to stop supporting the club which has been a massive part of your life for decades, is maybe the only excuse you have to meet up with friends or family, or the thing which allows you to forget about life for a few hours once a week. The continual bleatings of certain fans is becoming extremely tiresome. We get it- you think it was a terrible decision to sign him. We do too. Most of us think the club, and our support for it, is bigger than one mistake, however unbelievably gigantic that mistake may have been. And I’m willing to bet that as a fan base you lot would have reacted in a very similar manner. But we’ll never know because we were the fucking stupid ones. So come down off that fucking high horse and let’s talk about how many goals we’ll concede in the last 15mins.
  22. It’s been years now and I still can’t work out if Sophia is a parody account or just someone that loves an unnecessarily complex sentence. Makes a change from reading the posts of some of our simpleton fans I suppose. Also, ICT and Colin Steven can get so far to f*ck.
  23. Here's a sobering stat; If we lose the next two games we'll have gained 7 points from 13 games, with no wins. Peter Grant was sacked after 13 games with no wins and 7 points. At the moment we're 7 from the last 11 and 10 from the last 12. We're just lucky Inverness are actually on an even worse run of form which keeps us off the bottom of the form tables.
  24. Sorry Tx but this is still off. You’re forgetting that in the second year he would benefit from an additional tax free allowance, additional starter and intermediate allowances before paying the higher rate again. So as a rough calculation, ignoring any pensions or anything like that, and assuming he earns £75k per year; If he takes the salary monthly spread over two years he’d take home around £50k each year, for a total of £100k in his pocket. If he takes a lump sum of £150k he’s going to end up with about £87k in his pocket. That’s quite a big difference and a big incentive for him to want to be paid monthly as per his contract.
  25. If there’s anything good to come of this from a Rovers point of view, it is that we now know for certain that we don’t have the daftest, most out-of-touch board in Scottish football.
