  1. It took us an hour to really get going on Saturday but once they did I thought they looked really good out there with that shape. I think universally we would like to see a bit more stability in our approach but it did seem to get the best out of most of the team- eventually. And the Sammon debate reference had me concerned he was going to get bashed but pod was right. Once he scored (mainly due to horrendous defending admittedly) he was dynamite. Donnellys return is a huge boost. I think we'll see an upturn in the teams productivity from that alone. Regardless of how bonkers the starting line up is- if Donnelly is in we'll do okay. Good listen as always Kev
  2. Fair enough. Might not be reflected in result, because we stole a point- but on our previous visit this season we barely got a kick.
  3. Don't know why your views were so downbeat mate, the game was always pretty even and there for the taking. Could understand if we were 3 down at half time but this is madness.
  4. A much needed 3 points. We worked hard as always. Felt in that second half if we asked questions we could score and ultimately we did with a great winner. Still completely unable to fathom a lot of the managers decisions- both in his starting lineup and where he deploys players. But happy to concede he knows more about his players than me when we pick up wins at tough grounds Great to see Donnelly back in a cameo. He's vital to the creative output for this season and I'm sure he'll play a key role going forward. A massive 3 points for us after wee sticky patch- we needed that before Edinburgh City come back to Alloa next week.
  5. Holding midfielder/ball winner. Does all the grafting to allow the flair midfielders/full backs to get forward. Excellent for us.
  6. Yeah that looks unlikely now. These things happen. St Mirren have an option to recall Offord right about now I'm sure. I think we need to use him more if I'm honest. He's probably better off at us than sitting on St Mirrens bench. St Mirren not exactly struggling right now so I can't see a huge clamour from his parent club to get him back.
  7. Most clubs openly admitted it was a struggle to get players in- players less willing to travel further on a regular basis due to massive petrol price hikes amongst other reasons. So that's one less stick to beat the Alloa manager with- he was miles away from being the only one finding it tough and certainly not for the reasons insinuated. Players are coming in- pretty encouraging if rumours come to fruition. Plenty substance in what Alloa fans are saying. We are on a poor run performance wise due to a combination of that Edinburgh collapse and a ton of injuries. Results wise it's hardly been an unmitigated disaster and is fixable going forward. On paper both Alloa and Kelty should have been a whole lot better than Saturday. It was a slog of a game where both teams cancelled each other out with little to get excited about. But hardly an excuse to enter "knock the whole thing down and start again" silly season.
  8. I think St Mirren have an option to recall him. I'd like to see him stay, it's frustrating we haven't managed to get a consistent run out of him as I think he has plenty to offer.
  9. Labelling the squad as "a disgrace" was the best part . Madness. Its hard to say if it's linked but we haven't been that great since the second half collapse against Edinburgh. Performance wise we really need something to kick start things. We certainly didn't deserve any more than a point last night. We've dropped some points but it's not as if we are on a losing run. No big deal at all.
  10. Correct, 2-1 win. 4 Alloa wins and 2 draws since in games between the two at Recreation Park. Not the most appealing of games on the surface- but have to say when we faced Airdrie in the last round it was actually quite good- a really open game where both teams just played without fear. Its nice to progress but also not the end of the world to lose. I believe the vast majority (if not all) of the B teams are out which makes it more of a real competition.
  11. Pretty much same view as others- poor finishing cost both teams at different stages of the game. Alloa had a fair few injuries to guys who play every week and I guess on that basis it was a decent enough outcome. The draw was certainly a fair result. Wasnt his best game and he definitely faded in the second half, but McAllister continues to be a good watch. He had a good tussle with Andy Graham- two experienced players. Some clever wee nudges to make space etc. Not sure what the wee tantrum was as the referee blew for half time though, and he wasnt as good second half. As much as Alloa werent playing to what they were capable of in the first half- big Sammon should have done better with his header and Donnelly had a pretty strong case for a penalty. Donelly was off it for much of the game though and the post match interview with the manager made sense- that needs must and he threw him into the team despite not at 100%. Alloa had chances to snatch a victory in the closing stages- Offord gave us something extra off the bench. Scougall had wee bursts of quality in the game. But didnt really do enough to get the 3 points. Circumstances for both teams (bad run for Montrose, injury depletion for Alloa) meant that both teams probably reasonably satisfied with the outcome. Didnt lose too much ground overall at the top of the table and kept a clean sheet.
  12. Definitely beat us twice at Links the season Montrose won the Second Division in 84/85 and Alloa finished second to get promoted. But Alloa won the Recs game. Interesting stat for the away record- Ive found another win for Montrose at Recs the following season in 85/86 but would be interesting to have a good deep dive and see if the two wins mentioned are the only ones.
  13. I think the last time Alloa lost to Montrose in the league was season 1993/94 And again I may be wrong (only a quick look) but I dont think Alloa have lost at Links Park in the league since October 1988 in our promotion winning season. Obviously there has been significant gaps where the clubs havent been in the same division, particularly this century.
  14. Agree with all, we were on top for most of the game but struggled to break down Broomhill. Needed that second goal and there's always a danger with such a slender lead. I think we would still have gone on to win in extra time, but thankfully the late penalty saved us another 30 minutes- wasn't a particularly great watch. Looked like a fairly clear handball from the stand. Signs we hadn't fully recovered from last week's collapse but we are in the hat for the next round and that's all that matters really.
  15. Pretty decent coverage through SPFL site on Monday- a real pity that after Saturdays outcome I had little enthusiasm for it
  16. Perfectly understandable mate, I'm sure we would be same if the result was reversed.
  17. Falkirk and Dunfermline bring big supports to Alloa, but the rest are much of a muchness- exception is Edinburgh but that's due to in- fighting at the club. And Peterhead probably but there's geographical justification there. Queens used to bring a bit more when we were both in the Championship and 12/13 when they ran away with the league, but that's understandable. Great day yesterday- looked bleak in the first 20 but equaliser changed the outlook of the 2nd half. Queens fell apart after Alloa took the lead. Goals from all over the team- strikers, defenders, subs which was great to see. Not often you see a straight red for dissent- wonder what was said there. The goal in question wasn't controversial so not sure what the complaint was. Second half was as enjoyable a watch as we've seen in quite some time at The Recs.
  18. Entered a nice pleasant post match discussion with a chip on his shoulder...and its with a chip on his shoulder he departs. All the best for the season mate.
  19. Fair enough mate. Just to add, I wasn't involved in any debate- my initial comment was merely an observation based on some of your replies to others- which were over the top at best, utterly false at worst. I thought over the piece the referee was fine personally. Anyway- onwards and upwards- lets draw this to a close.
  20. The guy who said the Kelty claim wasn't a penalty runs the clubs media- so not only was he not at the other end of the pitch, he had the benefit of looking at these things again moments later. And this was because another Alloa supporter asked the question and he's in a position to answer it. Because as you rightly point out, no one had a clue behind the other goal- myself included- why is why he asked. Once again- absolutely no one is blaming the referee for Alloa not winning as you claim, not outwardly or in a subtle fashion. Debating marginal decisions is absolutely natural (the Andy Graham booking definitely not marginal btw) but this is start a fight in an empty house stuff. Your teams improved well this season after a dodgy start, deserved a point yesterday and your ground is a brilliant wee setup. Cheer up pal and enjoy your Sunday
  21. Every single Alloa supporter who has posted has said a draw was a fair result, and nobody has said they didn't win because of refereeing decisions mate.
  22. Robert you seem to have a wee bit of a chip on your shoulder pal.
  23. Yeah not a great deal happened first half other than Churches goal which was an outstanding finish. Second half was better and Kelty had a good wee initial spell, although appeared Muir could have done a lot better with the goal and spilled it. Agyeman looked pretty dangerous though and I thought ex Alloa boy Peggie was decent too. Alloa were toiling a bit until Scougall came off the bench and were much improved after that. Had a couple of chances- slightly disappointed not to win but there wasn't a whole lot in the game in all honesty. Keltys ground is brilliant. A great wee mix of enclosures and decent terracing. Really enjoyed the visit. A relaxed sensible trip on this occasion for me but I think I'll get myself in that social club for opening time next time the clubs meet there.
  24. I agree with this, although it's hard to be too critical when we are picking up wins and sitting in a decent place in the table. Couldn't see the logic in the defensive lineup when I saw the team sheet and I was still unconvinced when the game started. Taggart was excellent at right back last week so didn't really see why he was reverted to centre half again with options there. Thought we were pretty good in the opening 20 - 25 minutes- particularly Cawley who was far more influential further forward (no shock there). But after Clyde equalised we fell out of it and were a wee bit fortunate to be level at the break. Manager said himself we were spooked after the goal and that's happening a bit too often in more recent games. Both midfield cancelled each other out for much of the second half and I thought Clyde probably deserved a point. They started getting a bit panicky after being reduced to 10 men though and I guess that's understandable being on such a long losing run. Donnelly is our best player at the moment, although he admittedly was quiet second half until he scored the winner. Regardless of circumstances you can't beat an injury time winner. We have a decent squad capable of winning games as we are seeing, but I think we will have to play a whole lot better over at Kelty next week to get the 3 points.
  25. Park at the Morrisons car park, first thing you see on the left coming into the town. 5 min walk max from away turnstile, sharp exit out and on the road fast afterwards.
