Interesting to note that it’s payment based on when you exit, I’m sure in the past it used to be a fee for every round,  so you’d earn more from saying winning a preliminary and going out round one than getting a bye to round one then going out.

It was changed in the last couple of years. I think 2020-21 was either the first season of the new method or the last of the old one. Certainly not the first season of this being the case.

Ziggler is a bit of a strange one.

Good company guy, solid hand and could turn his talents to most things. Though they do have Miz playing that 'veteran getting new talents over' role now so guess there was little need for Dolph.

He could end up in AEW and do a good job and Ali would be a definite pick up for them.

43 sat at home. Done it all at that level. Even that stint in NXT. Supposedly had interest in leaving when his last contract was up, but that was when WWE were offering silly money to keep people from AEW.

I'm not sure what he'll do. Don't think he's a major pick up. Depends on how motivated he is, but I can see another Johnny TV/Hennigan type. Where they have a lot of z-list side projects (like his comedy career) and wrestling just pays some bills.

Someone I'd rather see go to Impact if he's looking to carry on wrestling.

He's international champion now, so he'll likely be on every week on Dynamite if they treat him like OC.  Get ready for "It's Wednesday, you know what that means...BLOOD!"

He does need to tone it down though.  He's the perfect example of how blood should not be treated.

Babyface Mox was the blueprint in many ways for OC. Just toss him out there in random matches and eat up 10-15 minutes.

He gets a harsh rep on the blood front. Most recent singles matches he hasn't bled. Hell, he even managed to avoid it in the 3 way from Dynamite 200 unless you're counting the thumbtacks spot he took. It was Trent that bladed. It's because he's out there so often and in high profile matches if he isn't bleeding, his opponent could be.

Point is there are games in the first round which will have a bigger attendance and be closer to capacity and will therefore have a better atmosphere. How many neutrals do you thing it will pick up on a Monday 10? 100? 200? 500?

And clubs potentially turned the game down just like last year. As they would rather have the crowds than the BBC Scotland pittance on a Monday night.

  5. All of the dirtsheets struggle in the podcast/social media era. They're sat in front of a mic 5+ days a week and endlessly skimming twitter the rest of the time. Opinions and thoughts are aggregated as facts. I think it was Sean Ross Sapp that just repeated a question he was asked in a super chat and it was picked up as "SRS said..."

But that's where the money is. Just like any gossip rag they have to lean into it.

To be fair, I'm not really bothered what you think as most of the  time its at the windup and try to put people down which puts new people off commenting on this forum and certainly don't need to justify myself to you.     I have seen all teams from the lowland league last season bar 5 teams last season and I know you haven't. I'm speaking from what I have witnessed and from my experience of these teams.    But that's my view and wont change unless something positive and  drastic happens to both Gretna and Edinburgh Uni but I doubt that very much.   You are welcome to come back at me in the next couple of years and say I was wrong and of which I will agree and say, "yes I was wrong"

I think he's taking the piss because it's like picking Celtic or Rangers to win the Premiership. Gretna 08 or Edinburgh University isn't much of a prediction.

  7. It's a bit of a tangent, but I really hate the way some of the people in the business talk about ppv buys.

For years TNA got hit with the stick of only doing 30k-40k buys, but that was traditional PPV providers domestic to the US. It was an era before internet/streaming PPVs became established and most international markets (like the UK) the shows were sold to their TV partner.

It's great that AEW are doing around 140k and sometimes higher. That's being cobbled together from FITE and multiple providers around the world. When the likes of Meltzer compares what AEW do to WCW and ECW it's incredibly disingenuous.

All that said. The first WM I remember having to buy as a PPV was either WM20 or WM21. WM17 would have been in the top 5 buys if the UK and other markets weren't getting it for free. Cena ain't that great 😆

  8. The thing about Punk returning to WWE. Is do you see him winning? He seems to have enough of an ego he'd want to be presented favourably. I struggle to see him getting the same prime spots that other legends have been given.

That CCTV footage must be damning for AEW to go for the nuclear option so quickly.

Meltzer's once again putting the non-wrestler version he published the other day as the definitive version of what actually happened. The one with the sucker punch after some shoving.

Anyone who doesn't think Meltzer and Alvarez have a clear side in this just needs to read the following:

Said it for years, Meltzer is a fucking wee dweeb. Punk, as everyone knows, is not a good fighter in UFC terms but it's hilarious to believe that if he was seriously hitting Jack Perry, Perry could just stand there and palm it off as an annoyance.

He included pretty much everything he has been told. The WON has never been anything more than a gossip rag (which is what the audience wants) with Meltzer's opinion.

Which is why that version and the one about threatening Tony Khan are doing the rounds on all the clickbait aggregators and social media. The more timid versions just for those that bother with a subscription and see the complete article.

  11. SPFL Reserve League quietly returned this week.

Drop from 10 to 9 teams with Dundee United, Motherwell and Hamilton dropping out. Airdrieonians and Dunfermline entering.

    • Airdrieonians
    • Ayr United
    • Dundee
    • Dunfermline
    • Hibernian
    • Kilmarnock
    • Livingston
    • QOS
    • Queen's Park

Going by the fixture list, only playing an 8 game league season with a League Cup group stage guaranteeing an extra 3-4 games.

B teams will probably be back next year trying to get in again or attempting to reconstruct things for their benefit. Hopefully the Lowland's grown a backbone.

I heard your dad went into a restaurant, and ate everything in the restaurant, and they had to close the restaurant

And the fact it was an all you can eat buffet made it all the more impressive! Had to close after being sued for false advertising.

  13. Both the WoSFL and EoSFL did the exact same when dealing with the consequences of COVID. New applicants went into a Division below the Conferences set for the 2020-21 season that was cancelled after it had started.

Ain't it great seeing a club thread ruined by the same years old nonsense 😑

  14. The funny thing is before Punk signed with AEW. He was someone the Elite wanted to sign. Even tried to get him involved in the original All In.

Clearly, reality is a little different. And it's not just The Elite that have ended up with ill feelings to him.

After last year I don't think he would have been back if it hadn't been for Collision. The Cost-Benefit analysis of adding 52 live dates, increased domestic and international TV rights was deemed worth the backlash from bringing him back. Which is why we've seen the compromised situation play out to try and keep everyone happy.

I'm currently watching the All In replay on ITV4, they seem to be showing it mostly intact with a random cut here and there. The whole event looks spectacular, kudos to AEW's production people.

Cuts are to be expected. Wasn't it a 4 hour time slot and the ppv was just short of 4.

It was mentioned that a lot of talent couldn't make it because of illness/ a hurricane in Florida

Bray Wyatt's memorial was also originally scheduled for Wednesday. Was moved to next week for the same issue of the hurricane preventing people making it in.

So no wrestler has the right to be annoyed when someone goes into business for themself? Throughout the history of the business, that has never gone down well.

Factor in that Hangman did this to literally the biggest draw in the history of the company - for him not to face even slight repercussion is just weird.

That's one instance. Where a guy said something to his face. Had the opportunity to respond. Fit into the idea of two guys feuding so went over most people's heads. It was nothing. In the year since he challenged Hangman on live tv, disrupting the show knowing Hangman couldn't respond. All Out press conference. ESPN interview. Post-Collision promo.

It also came from a place of concern over Colt Cabana being punted into uncertainty and job insecurity. Which might not have been Punk, but looks to have been Tony Khan doing some preventative work to keep Punk happy. Since here we are now with Punk on Collision Island using his influence to ban people from the show.

  18. 2 minutes ago, forameus said:

He rightly told him not to do a certain spot - along with a lot of the roster and Schiavone apparently - but because it's Punk, suddenly it's this huge deal and there's almost a fight.

Here's the thing with that. It was a big thing at that time. It happened the week after Forbidden Door when they did the back to back nights of Dynamite & Collision. Which was the only reason HOOK and Perry were available.

It became an issue after the news broke of Punk banning people from Collision and there was a pile on of everyone's petty grievances in the sheets. Just like Nemeth's confrontation at the Chicago Dynamite.

People had been stewing on things for months and it got to a boiling point. Which is why it's probably best to cut ties for everyone's sake. As I don't see it changing.
