  1. Aye, I remember Ukraine at the quarter finals utterly embarrassing themselves v England. A disgrace of a performance. We made them look like 2010 Barcelona. I'm not terribly sure that was wholly the fault of Clarke when we had players not performing at all. While I'm not on the "Clarke out" bandwagon yet, being utterly hounded by a team who are, on paper, only marginally better than us will give more shoogle to his coat hook than if we'd been simply beaten by them in a closely contested game.

    The Boys

Excellent first three episodes of series 3. The satire is very clever, but without being too on the nose. There's not enough Victoria Neumann though, but that's a small grumble. Homeland is an excellent character and thoroughly well played. Hughie is a whiny wee dick of a character though, but his type of character is ubiquitous in American TV these days, so I understand why he's there. I'm looking forward to seeing where it all goes though.
  3. A bacchanalian orgy might be just the thing to lift his spirits tbf.
  4. I thought Robbo was one of the few who played well today. Constantly trying to attack and make something happen. He and Hickey were both isolated when attacking though. Hickey looked like a wee boy at times, but started to come on to a game with about 20mins to go. He and McTominay are not a partnership I want to see again though. McT looked like an absolute carthorse at times. The tactic of throwing it up to Dykes was an absolute embarrassment. I'm actually in a bit of shock after that as I haven't seen us dominated in such a way since we got pumped by Belgium. Clark is a fine coach, but he's shown himself to be a pretty shoddy tactician at times.
  5. WADA suspended doping controls for Ukrainians due to the Russian invasion. No fucking wonder they looked significantly fitter than us.
  6. Aye I was calling McGinn a tattie heided impostor fir much of the game. The worst effort I've seen from him since his disappearing act against Russia at Hampden. I thought they looked infinitely fresher than us. I out that down to the majority of their players having had a couple of months to prepare and train for this game. That's being generous. Their coach had our number. Our full backs were isolated (save for the three or four Ukrainians surrounding them) and our midfield looked collectively powder puff. Probably the least competitive performance I've seen from us since Belgium.
  7. Tasty traffic delays on the road between Perth and Stirling. Our bus is crawling along. Leave in plenty time a'body.
  8. Cheers lads. I'm just looking for reasons to be positive. Can't fucking wait for this.
  9. Absolutely shiting it for tomorrow now. I was already worried about our right hand side due to Ukraine having a very strong left side, but now with next to no attacking threat down the right I see us being pegged back quite a bit. He'll play Christie rather than Dykes, just to give us that extra width.
  10. I looked it up. If I picked you up correctly you're in Illinois. During the Revolutionary War a fella called George Rogers Clark (also the name of a gay porn mash-up of Superman and George of the Jungle, but never mind about that just now) marched a force through to Vincennes, Indiana to claim it for the new Republic. I think he got all the way to Virginia, so you might have to take a career break or something if you want to recreate this. What other un-British thing did you have in mind?
  11. I'd fucking love to see that tbf. Aye you're right, Scotland fans can barely sign FoS (can we not play it half an octave lower ffs??) so I imagine them making a fist of the Ukrainian anthem would just be a cacophony. Silence is better.
  12. Honestly I was up for singing the Ukraine national anthem a while back too. I'll be fine if other Scotland fans choose to do that, but I've now got my game face on and am only thinking about winning. We'd better fucking not boo it though.
  13. Bewildered by bunting in Bury? Blame boorish Britannia bawbaggery I'm fairly sure this was a clue in the Times cryptic crossword.
  14. I was at that game and don't recall this. I'm not saying it's not true, probably that I blanked most of it out. No, it's the Donnie Munro original that gets played, we were led by the new fella.
  15. I've booted the arse out of that claim for the last decade and a bit
  16. Aye you're right. Tbh the announcement said extra trains to Embra. I don't really care that much about central belt as they're served very well by buses. The train to EK is shite anyway, and far too expensive.
  17. Putting extra trains on to Edinburgh and to nowhere else is pish. There are buses running there all night. The services are required to take people further out. It's a wider point but I think with fully nationalised transport this doesn't happen.
  18. He was superb against Israel.
  19. One of my favourite American satirists. His song about Creation Science is probably his best work, but the above belongs on this thread.
  20. I was the same. I put my own long take on it in the Maverick thread, but I genuinely thought this was a poor and pretty manipulative movie. I love Cruise and would watch him reading the phone book, but the rest of it (action scenes aside) was shite. I quite liked Top Gun but never bought into it as a huge cultural touchstone, so I didn't have the dopamine hit of nostalgia to dull my critical faculties. I think the fans were nervous about this film. There's been a tendency towards "deconstruction" of previously beloved heroes where they are belittled and undermined in ways that were politically motivated or just nihilistic. Skywalker, Bond and (I haven't seen it, but have heard many people say this) Picard are three examples that spring to mind. I think the huge praise for this movie can be explained by the factor of recognition and nostalgia, and the relief that their beloved hero was treated with respect, affection and was allowed to fly off gloriously into the sunset. I can't begrudge people that. I haven't seen that many joyous faces leaving a cinema in years. People were buzzing.
  21. Did a NIMBY murder your cat Dave? It seems like a petty stick to beat him with tbh.
  22. Can't agree that this was a bad game. I loved it, and I was surprised by that as I'm no fan of the CL. Modric, Carvajal and Courtois were the absolute stand outs for me. The link up and understanding between Benzema and Vinicius was a joy to watch at times. Modric's pass into Kroos that started the move that lead to the goal was beautiful. He's the player I want Gilmour to become. So aye, I thought this was a cracking game.
  23. That was a great game tbf. The defensive display by Madrid was thrilling and after they weathered that storm of the first 40 mins it was an even game. Some of the counter attacking play by Real was sumptuous. That's the best goalkeeping display I've ever seen I think. Modric is just an unreal footballer. Here, what a career Ancelotti has had. Part of a fabled Milan team and then one of the greatest managers ever.
