So we have a manager who has actual experience of International management, while at the same time being a nation who has proved that you can't necessarily just put a decent club manager in and get success, and it's "fuckin weird" that anyone would choose Bilic in those circumstances?

Aye I was pished when I posted that. I take back the "fuckin weird" bit. One thing I keep forgetting (and others too) is that Moyes has continually distanced himself from the Scotland job.

  2. I think we have  a habit of judging Scottish managers more harshly than foreign ones. Moyes was pish with Man Utd in the same way that Van Gaal or Mourinho were. The way he conducted himself at Everton bodes well for Scotland. He was old school and demanded hard work from his players. He was also highly organised. He would be my first choice. It's fuckin weird that anyone would choose Bilic over him, or even any other foreign choice.

  3. I know, pish journalism thread for this pish, but I had a look at Keith Jackson's article that led to the Sven rumours and, as usual, there were no quotes from Erikson at all.

We can just assume that he hasn't applied and that he's not interested.

I'm shiting it that we end up with an uninspiring numpty.

  4. I'm quite excited to see Sven's name linked. He wasn't nearly as bad with England as he was made out to be. His 2002 world cup was ended at the quarters by the eventual winners and one of the best World Cup sides in Brazil, who had Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo.

He's been highly successful in Serie A and also has huge experience managing international sides.

    Fuckin give it to him.

Definitely has to be a distinction between part-time clubs out of their depth and full-time sides that just stink the place out.

Before Brechin City last season, need to give a shout to the East Fife side of 1996/97 under Steve Archibald and with the Trinidadians? Only won two games, one of which was on the final day and their campaign included a run of 15 straight defeats, ironically ended by coming back from two goals down to draw with a Saints side that cantered the league. During that run they scored 6 goals, conceding 52 goals, with two 6-0 defeats and a 7-1 loss in there.

Sticking with Fife, there's also the Cowdenbeath team from 1992/93? A 44-game season and they won only 1 of their first 41 games. They conceded 18 goals in their first 5 games, which set the tone for a campaign that saw them lose over 100 goals and fail to win a match at home.

Fuckin LoL!! They pumped us out the cup that season iirc.

It did when we appointed Berti. "England have got a foreigner [Sven] and they're doing alright - let's get one too"

The same "thought process" is influencing the pro-Gemmill chat now.

I forgot for a second who is running our national game.

    Carry on,

Mclaren not for me mate. Isnt he a wee bit of a joke figure down south after England and his recent managerial failures?
We can agree on Clarke and Moyes tho - would take either of them

I would hope that the opinion of our nearest neighbours wouldn't influence any decision on our new manager.

It would make sense for Liverpool to go after him.  Would fit well in their side and is obviously miles better than Origi and Sturridge.

They already have their "wee barrel-chested forward" quota with Shaquiri.

  9. Some quality knicker-wetting on here.

The boy is clearly injured. Playing a set of international fixtures at the end of the season would be terrible for his physical fitness.

He's been injured for much of the season. There really is no story here.

  10. Looking at the highlights today he looked excellent against a top quality side. The boy's absolutely brimming with confidence in his own ability too, his bearing in the interview afterwards was impressive.

I think if he maintains that level of performance we'll have a top class player on our hands.

This evening Gary Caldwell formally failed to meet the stated objective which formed the basis of his appointment as manager of Partick Thistle Football Club.

We are one place worse off than when his predecessor was sacked.

    Just observing.

Aye he should have definitely done something to prevent Alloa from beating Morton tonight .

    I feel I'm being whooshed.

We should each get one free murder a year to thin out dicks like that.

Just the one? Snowflakes like you are what's wrong with the world.

    Just the one indeed.

That's exactly the kind of protest that would not get my backing. @BigFatTabbyDave already outlined a lot of the arguments in his post.

For starters, there's no point in getting McLeish sacked for the same people who appointed him to do the same thing all over again. When the news broke at the weekend that Scunthorpe had sacked Stuart McCall I joked to a friend that he'd be the next Scotland manager. Whilst I wouldn't expect him to get the job, I also wouldn't be surprised if the SFA actually considered him a reasonable candidate.

More importantly, picking on the current manager seems churlish and both the SFA & media will just portray it as fans being upset with recent results - nothing else. This thread (and plenty of other Scotland threads) is filled with people saying they stopped going years ago - McLeish had absolutely nothing to do with that and therefore shouldn't be a key point of the protest.

Aye this is an excellent point.

In my eagerness to go for modest and immediate goals I hadn't considered those negative optics.

It does need to be about change at the top. We need to start a movement, essentially. A fans' pressure group which aims to force change at the top. There is a blueprint for this already in the McLeish report if I remember correctly. It needs to steer clear from the Hamish Husband types and shortbread tin nationalists (although the latter might be inescapable) but I think there is now an appetite for it.

  14. I like the idea of the balls protest. Some good ideas here.

I was planning on making it a single demand type of boycott, and the sacking of McLeish is a decent place to start seeing as it's so badly needed and was such a shitty appointment in the first place.

It's why I was asking people to PM me so that we can have a bit of a brainstorm. So far I have London Bairn. More are obviously welcome.

While I see where you're coming from, it's never going to be organised enough to make it happen.

Personally, I'm already boycotting it indirectly.  I just cannot be arsed shelling out the money they want (even though it's a bit more reasonable this year) with the shit kick-off times, just to watch what we'll likely be served up.

I'm planning on organising it, with the help of a few willing others.

At the moment people are voting with their feet, but this becomes a protest when you add a specific and explicit intention to it. It's also about media perception. If there is a low attendance and there's a petition with a few thousand signatures on it, what starts as "fan apathy" becomes "fan's boycotting in protest" which is an entirely different and more powerful conversation.

  16. We Scotland fans are expressing a lot of anger and frustration with the SFA. We're angry at the shambolic and lazy contempt surrounding the appointment of Alex McLeish; appointed ad hoc without any process of offering the post out to coached worldwide. We're also angry at the regressive attitudes of coaches at younger levels (hiya Sbragia etc) and we have a lot of anxiety surrounding the present and future of our game.

I believe that there will be no meaningful change at the top without some kind of action from fans. Collective action has historically been the only agent of major change and it is my contention that the SFA need to be reminded whom they serve. To that end I want to organise a fan boycott and protest at Hampden on the date of the next home game, against Cyprus on the 8th of June. The SFA simply expect that fans will turn up. We have to show them that we're willing to hit them in the pocket to force them to change the manager, at the very least.

I want to know who would be willing to join such a boycott. You don't have to necessarily protest, but having a few thousand signatures corresponding with a number of empty seats would be a powerful message.

If you want to get on board and help in a more active way then send me a PM.
