Aberdeen almost had it too when they adopted the old firm's traditional policy of hoovering up the best talent from their rivals but just came up short against Deila's Celtic. I was hopeful of their new stadium being for 30k supporters including a 10k top deck to be opened for bigger games but it was not to be.

Aberdeens gates tend to be around the 10 to 15 K so they are already building seats they won't use every week

To build another 10K on an extra deck to just be opened for bigger games would never be viable . On pay back terms it would take 100's of years

A ground that size in Edinburgh might be useful as we go from the big 3 in Glasgow to 20K in Edinburgh for some cup semi finals but 30K in Aberdeen would only result in very large old firm away supports and thus giving up a lot of the home team advantage.

    Question

We all want Scottish Football back to being competitive at least in Domestic game and Europe. But it never ever be.

Why should Scotland ever be competitive in Europe ?

We already punch well above our weight .

Investors expect some sort of return , where are you going to get that in Scotland. Look at the Americans at both Dundee clubs, they will most likely never see any of the money they have put in ever again.

Businesses will invest in Championship teams in England as they have the opportunity to make the Premier league . Most won't . Thats not the case up here and never will be. If Rangers and Celtic , along with others join a Euro league those teams will possibly become worth some investment , until then bar fans own cash (Wealthy directors at Rangers and their contacts) no one will put the sort of money you are looking for into the game.

  3. There would be no merit in the proposal for the English teams.

The following would apply to teams from England

Those in the Premiership at the middle to lower end only care about the league so would play fringe players

Those in the Championship and below only care about trying to get to the Premiership so do the same as above

The top teams are only interested in Europe so would play fringe players .

The Elite are trying to get rid of their league cup for more European game so are hardly likely to be interested in adding in 42 Scottish teams when most of their fans can only name 2 of the 42.

From a Scottish point of view our teams would all be out with the exception of the trade mark duo and thus the joy of a cup final or semi final and a big day out when fans return would be lost to at least two non old firm teams come the semi final.

Plus the misery of getting knocked out by Sheffield Wednesday reserves on a Tuesday would just not make it worth it.

The Scottish league cup as it stands it great.

How is the refurb of Lesser getting on,    you guys must be scunnered if we cannot get started and end up stuck in league 2 another year...

Always enjoyed the Airdrie v Queens games, hopefully soon

I was one of the lucky few at the league cup final and when parked we went for a walk around Hampden.

You can certainly see some of the progress and I will try and post some of the pictures later.

One of the best views is from the steps of the West stand in the corner of the South stand. Will they take steps to put gates there otherwise even with a small roof on the Hampden Park side of the development a large amount of the pitch is in view. Obviously in the late 90's this was not thought about but could be an issue going forward.

  5. The numbers in religious buildings were capped at 50 right up to 26th December and at that point were reduced to 20.

The other point with yesterday announcement is as of yet there is no change to the numbers that can attend a wedding or funeral , which I do find strange but maybe that will change if travel restrictions are lifted.

Am I right in saying there are roughly 22 full time clubs in Scotland? I know Falkirk and Partick are full time outwith the top two leagues, and Alloa and Arbroath are part time clubs within the top two leagues?

I've always felt the following two things are true:

    - There should be no such thing as a national league that is entirely or almost entirely part time

    - However, we should have a few part time teams in the lowest national league to give the larger part time clubs something to aspire towards.

It points to 24/28/30 clubs playing in national leagues and then regionalise below that. The biggest issue is the TV deals relying on old firm money thus meaning a quadruple round robin or split is necessary.

16 game top league with a 4-8-4 split isn't a bad option. Could have 30 games then split into 4 groups. 1-2-3-4, 5-8-9-12, 6-7-10-11 and 13-14-15-16. The bottom two from the top group and the two group winners from the middle groups entering Europa league playoffs.

Having brought everyone back under one banner of the SPFL within the last 10 years the only way you could cut the national league numbers is to have another break away and I do not see that as in any way desirable . No club at the lower end of the 42 is going to vote to reduce the league .

Having spent time in the company of Kevin Rutkiewicz at Hamilton last week and heard him on the Dogger Saints podcast . He talked about how the aim was not only to eventually get Stirling Albion into league 1, but then consolidate with the aim of making the Championship in time. Possibly after he has moved on but as you say every team needs a goal

Most of the teams in the Premiership could at some point drop to the championship if they have a bad season and most championship teams could easily play in the Premiership.  Its only when teams are badly managed such as Falkirk and Partick Thistle that a full time team drops down a league.  For the part time teams the Championship is a realistic goal.

Here are my ideas in full.

    1. My League re-organisation Plan.

    16 Team Premier.

    10 Team Championship.

16 Team Scottish League One North,

16 Team Scottish League One South.,

I think we should have a 16 teams Scottish Premier and cut the number of games down to 30 games a season in the league. That way more Scottish sides would be in the Premier. The first 10 seasons of the Scottish League were played under a system that involved less than 30 games in a league season, for each team.

You are asking teams to drop 4 home games and second visits from at least one of the Old firm ® for a visit from Raith Rovers , Dundee or Morton , financially its not going to happen

    2. Cross border cups, such as an Atlantic League Cup.

Our own league cup has history , having just won it id not want to see it lost

    3. B teams or colt teams in the lower divisions.

The purpose of sticking the big side’s colt teams in the lower divisions, is simply to ensure that the big sides develop. I would love all Scottish Premier sides or the big 7 sides Celtic, Rangers, Hibernian, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee United and Motherwell to play colt sides in the lower divisions.

It may have skipped many people but the Saints side that just won the league cup just featured a whole team and sub who were all born in Scotland. For some reason our players dont get called up and thus Ali McCann chose the country of his fathers birth and is already playing for Northern Ireland.

Of the cup final team Clark, Kerr, May, Kane, McCann all came through the Saints youth set up, Liam Gordon and David Wotherspoon while both from Perth ended up in other teams academy before returning so where do we fit in with this big 7.

No need for Colts, just use the loan system and develop and play your own players

What is the logic behind a 10 club second tier? Why not 16 like all the other divisions?

Also, can we drop this "premier",  "championship" nonsense and go back to 1, 2, 3 etc?

With any larger top league you need to keep a small second tier , it would be disastrous financially for any team to go from a fully professional full time set up to a league where half the teams are part time and play to under 1000 fans with relegation.

  9. I was speaking to a couple at the weekend who are both teachers , one in Perth and Kinross and the other in Angus

Perth and Kinross school are doing S1 , S2 and S3 only on a Tuesday and Thursday with S4, S5 and S6 on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday

The confusing thing for parents will be they don't have the space to have all the S1 , S2 and S3 children in school at the same time so its 2 of the 3 groups on a rolling rota so week 1 is S1 and S2 Tuesday, S1 and S3 Thursday, then the next week starts S2 and S3 etc. Parents and kids will lose track of which day they are meant to be in but with class sizes very limited and 10% of the staff still shielding then there  is no other option.

The school in Angus is a new build but has very narrow corridors which is their main concern , already over capacity and possibly following a similar patern

Both schools need the distancing requirement to be reduced to give more class time.

Is that Real Madrid or you Marly looking like a right peado?

What I want to know is who's reflection is he seeing?

Thanks for the vote of confidence , I wasjust checking out the last time a certain team from Tayside we last engraved on a national cup.

The reflection will be Chris Logan the social media photographer who took the picture on Saturday after the game, the cup is technically in the amber zone so we had to wear masks and no one was allowed to touch it.

Hopefully soon there will be an opportunity for all fans to get their picture taken with the cup soon.

I believe nurses start somewhere between £21-23K typically.

A degree doesn't guarantee cash. I have one and make £20K five years later. Fair play to those on P&B on the megabucks but if I had the choice again I wouldn't bother with university.

    Fully agree

I graduated 1994, maybe too loyal to the places i've worked but im on 26k nearly 30 years later. The job has its perks and they are flexible and allow me to do the stuff with Saints so its not all about money.

Would I recommend uni to everyone , nope.

St Johnstone won the Challenge Cup in 2007.

Won the Scottish Cup in 2014.

In the League Cup Final in 2021...

If we win on Sunday, would anyone seriously bet against us being Premiership champions in 2028 to complete the full set of domestic honours??

We do like the 7 year gaps

    1st Division 82/83

    1st Division 89/90

    1st Division 96/97

(Between 82/83 and 89/90 it was a rollercoaster with 2 relegations ,  1 promotion, 3 years in the lowest tier and almost going bust, the good old days )

Absolute minter that you've got nothing better to do than write made up shite online about footballers/managers. It can't even be blamed on lockdown aswell, you've been at it for a decade.

This inside knowledge is from the same book as knowing Stevie May through his cousins dobermann and knowing Hemmings wage demands which is quite astonishing to know from behind the howling breath stamped  keyboard you imprint your clorty wee paws upon daily.

You'd be better off sticking your Downtown abbey boxset back on with your can of fizzy juice and wrapping them talons up for the rest of the day.

Nobody believes a word you type.

    Thank you.

    This somehow passed me by

The thing that would worry me about booking anything just now is quarantine when getting back to the UK, nothing to do with potentially losing the money.  I wouldn’t want to do it and won’t book any international travel until I’m pretty positive I won’t have to.  Having to spend 10 days at home  for a week away puts me right off the idea of a holiday.

We cover at our Hotel by basically including that in the reasons to cancel.

Some won't but until we out that in no one was booking.

  16. The "bump" in supply finally hit the BBC news tonight, with the UK figure well down on whats it been for a few weeks and talk of supply being limited next week as well.

But they were still confident of the mid April date for all 9 of the JCVI priority groups.

Have they given any indication as to when the JCVI will give their recommendations past the 9 groups?

Exactly, I almost always book with the Hotel direct and if you sign up for their various "loyalty schemes", you generally get the free cancellation / pay on arrival as standard, plus free room upgrade, welcome drinks, free safe, free mini bar etc, etc.

We set our prices at least 15% higher on booking.com etc to give the regular guest who book direct the best deal.

Free cancellation is a must just now.

You seem to have ignored the very specific thing he said about ATOL protection so you get your money back if it goes pear shaped.  It wasn’t the free for all you implied.

You dont need to rely on ATOL

If you can find a good hotel or accommodation with a water tight guarantee and good reviews you will be fine.

I realise you can get a refund or credit but it’s a huge gamble and just the government giving the travel industry a leg up. They can’t guarantee anything, people could be left stranded abroad ffs. They don’t give a monkeys.

Who is leaving anyone stranded abroad?
