I fully expect there to be no "travelling" fans, but like Craig says, that could mean Czech and Croatian fans based in the UK could still attend.  What would happen with segregation in that case, given that, by definition, there shouldn't be any fans other than "home" and "neutrals"?  That could get interesting in the event that everyone's best fucking guy Kudela ends up starting for the Czechs, and said Czechs take offence at the abuse he'll undoubtedly get.

In general at these tournaments there is no segregation as such anyway.

the two national associations fan groups get a block of tickets at either end and a few at the side and the rest go to the general sale

I was at Poland v Japan in 2018 in Volgograd (A shite game) and we had a block of Japanese fans below us but the seats in our row were all Polish with the odd Russian and us.

There were certainly be a lot of Czech fans at that game at Hampden who have Scottish addresses and purchased tickets via UEFA.

No-one's got any change anymore, they'll have to pass the card machine!

We are looking at getting one, were you in the zoom call last week.

The church of Scotland however have had a system for the last 11 months where you can use their website and donate to your local church so the need for physical cash is very small.

I assume of course that the collection plate won't be getting passed around?

We certainly did not yesterday or in the 2 months late last year when Kinnoull was open.

A box at the door which has to sit in a safe for a week before anyone can touch it with the preference as it has been for years for members to switch to a monthly standing order.

Hardly anyone in the church pre pandemic was using cash anyway so this will have shifted things further.

I don’t believe for a second that its somehow safer to have unregulated numbers of old biddies in a church singing away than people socially distanced at a football ground watching a match especially given the average demographics of the latter having significantly lower mortality than the church goers.
There’s now a very clear need imo for the government to justify with published evidence why crowds can’t attend open air matches given the only evidence (and id be happy to admit im wrong) seems to be that its actually safe/negligible risk of transmission in outdoor environments like a football ground.

As far as I understand it the singing element is still banned in churches, the numbers are regulated as is the distancing.

It still however makes little sense in the element of why 600 fans cannot go along and support Brechin City or Edinburgh City as expamples now, in an outdoor environment . If their concern is travel make it home fans only for a few weeks.

Exactly. I cant see Ayr or Stranraer etc being allowed fans until everyone is. Totally not fair but that seems to be the narrative

Everyone should be allowed  a percentage of their capacity, provided that they can follow what ever rules are in place at the time.

This is the rule the churches will follow from tomorrow, 50 people max but if the space does not allow then less

So should a ground only have 3 turnstiles they may find that their capacity is further reduced. 4 stands and 20 turnstiles no reduction.

Looking at McDiarmid Park I see no reason why we cannot spread our season ticket holders over the 4 stands to start with then introduce more and more fans.

There are only a few clubs that this would cause an issue to. Do we all need to wait on 100% capacity to allow for this?

Fans in Amsterdam as well I see.

It's actually quite infuriating to see not just how far behind the SG are in terms of relaxing restrictions, despite being over halfway to vaccinating all adults, but also to listen to the negative messaging coming out from their advisors on a near daily basis.

And as far as I can see despite there being an election in May all the parties are all on the same song sheet.

I am not sure how we get out of this.

They are, quite literally, 37% lower than here.

Their low level of testing causes issues with the Russian figures alongside the vast size of the country.

The Russian statistical agency Rosstat announced a Covid death rate of 186,057 for the period of January to November while  the government figure was 55,265 .  Even here the National statistics figures are higher than the government measure but not be that level of difference.

There will be thousands who have it and are never counted.

However the Russians are moving in the right direction, the more nations that have fans in stadiums and do normal things the more pressure we can put on the government to get our lives back.

Watching Russia v Slovenia just now. Fans in the ground in a significant number. Not sure Russia have ever had no fans at all at any point be it club or international level.

In which case their numbers should be astronomical compared to Scotland who have had 100% ban on all fans.

Anyone know how the two compare?

Russia has had its own vaccine since October . It was not made in England so the London based media ignored it.

They however don't test as much as us and figures are high, they have not vaccinated as much of the population and I guess it will take them a long time to do this

I was in ASDA this morning, glad that I didn't forget to take my own phone to call for a taxi. Have you seen the state of the supermarket phones that get used for phoning for a taxi. not difficult to assume by the look of them that many haven't been wiped clean since 2008.

They probably have not been used since 2008.

Something else that has had its day.

In fact which team now in Scotland is THE team for youth development, as I found out it was Falkirk years ago, Hamilton had a wee go, Dabs for season or 2 even Queen’s Park , we had a wee spell right as we were going into a financial meltdown, who’s #1 now?

Motherwell seem to shift a few young players on for good money. I think thats whats allowing them to make improvements at Fir Park just now despite the loss of income due to Covid.

Saints had a good few in the league cup final but no one ever leaves McDiarmid so if your looking for this to be a way to fund the club its certainly not us.

The new North Stand at Celtic Park takes shape in 1995, while the team had decanted to Hampden for a season...

    Celtic-Park-Stadium-Aerial.jpg?w=713

Its a pity that like Hampden they went for the lower cost option of keeping the main stand (with the famous pillars) and thus did not move the whole ground south, giving more space on the north side and not requiring any pillars at the top of the North stand.

Obviously some of the buildings such as the school would have been an issue back then but are long gone now.

I'm very guilty of going into the office when I've been unwell. I won't be doing that again.

How often do people actually get unwell?

I cannot remember the last time I felt ill bar a hangover.

I think it might have been when my appendix decided to go aged 10.

  13. Whats killed of young talent is teams hoarding young players and not then playing them.

It is possible to do that and win things, last month we started the league cup final with a starting team who were all born in Scotland .

All that is needed is faith to play the players and a loan system to cover the period before they are ready for top level football.

Fans love meaningful football. St Mirren would have packed out New Douglas Park, Saints would have had a large attendance on Saturday as well. Cut the split and if fans had been able to attend the attendances would just be normal.

The split works, its a target for the smaller teams in the Premiership, adds to the relegation mix and I think its here to stay.

We don't have the population or number of big teams to support a bigger top league.

I wasn't really passing comment on the nuances of the ruling just the fact that a group have actually pushed back against the lockdown and that pushback has been successful. It shows it can be achieved.

In time football clubs may need to do the same if they don't allow fans back in next season.

My techophobe mum has embraced watching  live streams of the services from her local church. The only part she misses by not attending in person is the tea, cake and gossip they all have afterwards

That is not going to come back for a long time, even when the buildings open. (From this weekend)

Kinnoull Church in Perth do the after church social catch up part by zoom every week, so its something your Mum's church could do.

They'll obviously announce more,  you'll probably get a few relegation dogfight games and maybe games for the Europa places if Livingston get close to the sheep.

St Johnstone are only 4 points behind Livingston so the gap from 5th to 6th is smaller than the gap from Livingston to Aberdeen.

Saints are very much looking at catching Livingston who have been in poor form since the start of February.

I think what happens in the Scottish cup will determine how vital the 5th place actually is.

  18. When did this last happen

I had a long look through post second world war records and despite there being some seasons when big clubs played in the rounds before the last 32 I could not see this happening ever.

is this a first this season?

Also in some years there was an extra round before the quarter finals as 10 teams progressed from the round before. Does anyone know how they decided who would play the extra games to eliminate 2 teams?

I see the semi-final from 1991 has popped up on YouTube.

First time I've seen the highlights since presumably seeing them on the night. What a fantastic occasion at a parked East End Park, what a Scottish Cup semi-final should be all about.

Saints should have won the game. Allan Moore misses an open goal early on and Harry Curran has another two headed chances in addition to his goal, one of which brings a great save from Alan Main.

Duncan Ferguson looks onside for the winner (which has been debated for years) but Dave Bowman definitely leans into the ball with his arm to block Maskrey's shot in the box.

Fantastic save by Lindsay Hamilton in stoppage time. Was Rhodes really an upgrade?

    Memories of the day?

I just remember being so gutted at full time and due to the segregation fence seeing the happy United fans at full time as we moved to the back of the stand to exit the ground.

One of those "Always the next time" days.

I thought the same given that there are no fans and therefore no real reason why both Celtic and Rangers can't play at home on the same day.

I'm assuming it's to do with it likely being televised.

As someone who is able to attend games just now the police numbers around the grounds have increased in the last few weeks, up to now we only had had police vans etc at McDiarmid for the games with Celtic and Rangers but they appeared for the game against Hibs after we had fans turn up at the stadium after the league cup win.

I would assume there is now a concern that Rangers fans may turn up at any of their remaining home games (Most likely to happen on the day of the trophy presentation)
