  1. He was asked Sportsound last Tuesday about the financial troubles at Thistle and he said he had spoken to the new chairman and he said there were no issues with that at all. Seemed odd at the time that a manager would be talking to an opponents chairman about finances, especially when that club had a manager. I just put it down to them being pals or something. Also, Chick Youngs exclusive on Off the Ball that McCall and Archibald would be announced over the weekend, while McCall was presumably still in the dressing room at Alloa and Chick was at Firhill. Makes all the "hardest decision" patter seem a bit Brendan Rodgers'y
  2. Aw Christ.......That is awful. Not since the race riot at Central park Cowdenbeith about 12 years ago has something made me cringe so hard
  3. Don't know, I always thought he free'd him but it was 30 years ago. I was raging/gutted at the time
  4. If McCall had been sacked and there was a concern over the welfare of loan players, perhaps they would be recalled. McCall left fairly amicably as far as I can see, I would see no reason why he would want to steal players from us at Christmas or other Scottish clubs would want to piss us about cancelling loans. Partick will be paying decent money for a very decent keeper in Scott Fox. Kelly has bedded in well at Ayr and is staring every week so I don't expect that would change. Adams on the other hand, McCall seems to have a decent relationship with him and his dad, his deal is based on him paying when he is happy to do so with his injury. A new manager might not tolerate that. Burley (another name...?) famously free'd Henry Templeton, a club legend because of Henrys "baggage" a few weeks in to his reign at Ayr. Ally knew how to get the best out of Henry and Burley couldn't manage him.
  5. Heard from a decent source today that Tommy Sloan is applying for the Ayr job. Undoubtedly a very good manager, speaking to a committee member at another junior club, he said he is the most prepared, analytical coach you'll ever meet. Still a massive gamble but if you were going to get a manager from the juniors, you'd want undoubtedly want the best (ever) one.* *this is in no way an endorsement of Tommy Sloans appointment as manager of Ayr United Football Club now or at any time in the future.
  6. I for one hope for some mad applications, some random international like Davids, Kluvert or Mathaus to apply.
  7. Who says he doesn't He retired in 2002 and has't been a manager since 2006, he has been an assistant or coach with Owen Coyle since. If you look at assistants over the years, they are rarely successful when they become their own men. Peter Huston, Billy Brown, Tommy Craig
  8. There is a whole host of former Scottish internationals making great strides in management, Barry Ferguson, Gary Caldwell, Paul Hartley, Steven Prestley............Could McFadden buck the trend? Doubt it
  9. Slavia failed to bring any players before the deadline apart from two loan players. The loss of players hasn't appeared to have caused to many issues, a credible draw with Inter Milan followed up with a derby win against Sparta at the weekend leaves Slavia 3 points clear over Plzen after 10 games. They have only conceded 2 goals domestically. They retain the key to the city after yesterdays victory. Including this stunning goal
  10. Means a new manager who comes in will be able to pick his own assistant Sandy Stewart will stay unless the new manager doesn't want him I guess. Owen Coyle, John Hendry as assistant and Sandy Stewart as coach, they were a team at Blackburn....
  11. Adams was dreadful at Ayr and wasn't polite about the club when he left, I think his loan deal may have been cut short as well.
  12. He landed 6 rapid on to Neil McCanns chin during the CIS cup final....... Oh f**k, Neil McCann
  13. If Owen Coyle got the job it would be the only time I've seen him and hes not fucking scored against us. Hughes was weird at Raith but he was always going to be there for a few months anyway, Won the Scottish cup. Owen Coyle got St Johnstone promoted. Both have had sticky spells recently.
  14. Employed Peter Murphy? Darren Young? Ian Murray? Jim Duffy? Unemployed John Hughes? Jim McIntyre? Leftfield Tommy Sloan? Mark Kerr? Chris Higgins?
  15. I saw him dressed like a twat on sky sports this afternoon and just assumed he was out of work again
  16. Would I take John Hughes ? While Steven Prestley is out of a job, yes This is more than just league position, McCall has been behind the return to full time football and setting us up as a place top teams send their players to be developed. We followed the same formula every season, start well with a small squad, at Christmas we start to become inconsistent and limp home, mostly down to injuries to the same players every year, but our early season form has seen us through. He didn't create a new manager bounce when he started at Ayr, it took him to the following season to turn things around, hopefully it will be the same as thistle. Sandy Stewart is a great coach but not a manager from what I can see, maybe Kerr will be a decent manager but I'd hope for a same again appointment, old head with something to prove.
  17. I am hoping that McCall is giving Thistle a respectful amount of time to consider the offer before declining. Cameron allowed him to speak to Falkirk last year and presumably Thistle now and I am guessing that is through mutual respect. McCall is probably in one of the safest jobs in Scottish football at the moment.
  18. He was an arrogant arse of a man, as soon as a player was getting headlines, Daziel dropped him and they were sold soon after, Kerrigan, Ferguson, Hurst. He spent more money than any other Ayr manager and at times the football was dreadful. We never had consistency and paid big wages for small return. The cup results overshadowed how bad the league results were half the time, probably to do with the massive bonuses the players were on. He also had some big name assistants in his time. It was a great time because of the players we signed, it wasn't boring but we paid massive wages for players like Pat McGinley, John Hughes etc and free'd players like Scott Chaplain, Neil Scally, John Bradford and Mick Dunlop, all of whom played the bulk of their careers in and around the same level as Ayr. Its one of the reasons I am glad that over the last few years we have stuck with guys like Crawford, Forrest, McCowan, McGuffie etc rather than filling our team with average "known" players. Maybe money has something to do with that though.
  19. He was on Sportsound last night, when asked about the Thistle takeover stuff he said that he had spoken to some of the board and they assured him that everything at the club was fine......Caldwell was still in a job at that time. Miller with Doolan as an assistant, lets get that rumour started.
  20. Tickets are on-sale to season ticket holders now, then after a date, season ticket holders will be offered one additional ticket, if there is any left after that point they will be offered to the Slavia club members and in the unlikely event there are any left after that, they will go on public sale. I doubt I'll get a ticket for the Barcelona or Dortmund game. I haven't had a season ticket (£240) for a couple of seasons now unfortunately
  21. A lot of vintage performances for Ayr, Moffat was outstanding the whole game, for a player many were doubting could last 90 min at this level was fantastic, even in the last 15 selling a united player an absolute dummy in the box like a matador or nutmegging Reynolds for the sheer hell of it. Kerr was also outstanding, his reading of the game and anticipation of where opponents were going was first class. McCowan had a shaky first 20 or so minutes but his run along the goal line was worth paying to see alone. Rosco though, missed headers against Morton and Stranraer and was dropped, to come back in against Shankland, probably the best forward in the league and restrict him to one shot at goal is a million miles away from his mistakes in earlier games. I thought, for the players they have in the team, Dundee United were very poor at the back, Reynolds, Brown and the left back were a car crash, Smith made mistakes that he never made in an Ayr jersey. With the exception of McMullen, there was little forward threat. Shankland had one of those games he would have for Ayr, bullied out the game by a centre half but for one noticeable difference, he didn't come for the ball deep and try to make something happen like he did for us. But with Shankland, if he didn't score in a game, it meant the next team we played was getting a hiding. I don't know why Neilson was on the park at the end having a go at Madden, he was dreadful all round.
  22. I normally take folk from work here https://kogohavelska.cz/en/ decent Italian, reasonable prices and fairly central
  23. Sigma Olomouc celebrated their centenary today with a legends game V. the Czech national team legends. The Czech legends ran out 9-2 winners with Jan Koller scoring 4
