  1. Montgomery struck me as someone who might instill a bit of fight, unlike Johnson. Didn't seem like Hibs had much fight yesterday. You're right that you need to give him time though, the constant revolving door is not doing you any favours. Robinson presided over a bit of a collapse when he first arrived at St Mirren. We went from being on target for top 6, to real danger of finishing 11th. The knives never really came out for him other than a few plonkers online. I said on the Aberdeen new manager thread that too many clubs are chasing perfection, it's almost impossible for a manager of most teams in our league to have a poor season and not get binned. Sometimes clubs will have a poor season, is finishing 7th or 8th the end of the world for a Hibs or Aberdeen given the amount of changes they've made recently? Would it not be better to give someone a couple of seasons to try and build something and improve?
  2. There wasn't a bad performance in our team today and a few standouts. Scott still looks a bit short of fitness but I thought he did well. Kwon and Bwomono were both excellent. Marcus Fraser deserves a mention, as he's been playing left side of the back three and still churning out his usual solid performances. Caveat everything by saying that Hibs are an absolute gang, but a very good showing from an under strength side.
  3. Anyone else a bit pissed off that we didn't add to our tally? Montgomery probably owes Robinson a few beers because if we'd come out the traps in the second half - rather than treating it like a training match - then he'd quite possibly be getting his jotters tonight. To think Hibs sacked Jack Ross the season after a third place finish and a cup final (two cup finals?). The poor run that ended Ross couldn't have been worse than this?
  4. There was a St Mirren fan (can't remember who) on here during the close season that said we should have tried to sign Levitt. He was roundly mocked at the suggestion. Levitt would genuinely be about our 5th choice central midfielder at the moment.
  5. The penalty is a shocker. I'm not having that should be given but 3-0 doesn't flatter us in the slightest. If anything it could be more. Really like the look of Kwon, Bwomono looks like a good addition too. Kiltie our best player so far.
  6. There goes the fiver I had on James Scott first scorer.
  7. Japan out after conceding a penalty in the 96th minute. It's been a good tournament for upsets.
  8. Korea have been incredibly lucky in this tournament so far. Japan play Iran today. I fancy a Korea v Japan final even though none of the bigger teams have looked particularly impressive.
  9. It could end up with some good, collegiate politics, where bills get discussed, amended and passed based on the merit of the legislation. But I won't hold my breath.
  10. As good as it is to have Baccus coming back, I'd have still loved to have seen them win it with him being such an important player for them.
  11. Just saw that Thierry Small has left Southampton. I'm guessing he'll end up at a League 1/2 club down south, but it's been a bit of a fall from grace for a young player that was very highly rated. Edit: signed for Charlton in league 1.
  12. Fair point. I'm not trying to defend Robson's record for what it's worth, more that three managers in 3 years suggests that the problem is bigger than the manager.
  13. Whilst this point is undoubtedly true, I think it's unlikely we'll see another politician with that sort of popularity in the short to medium term. Society is so polarised that it's almost impossible for someone to have the sort of approval ratings that Blair had prior to 97. Even if Labour had a smoother, more charismatic leader just now, they still wouldn't have numbers like Blair.
  14. Fair enough, you guys obviously have a much better idea of tactics/performances etc. I'm certain I made a similar point on here, years back when Calderwood got moved on. There was a manager that had done well, but a lot of Aberdeen fans wanted him out. McInnes was the same by the end. I'm not even having a particular pop at Aberdeen here, it's the whole culture that I don't think allows for much long term improvement of the game. I think more fans have to be willing to accept a bad season sometimes. But I caveat this by saying that in the fans of clubs, of course, have a better knowledge of how the team is doing than outsiders looking in.
  15. You did get to a cup final though and churned out some decent European performances. I just think that so many clubs have no real direction, it's almost like a lottery of whether a manager will work out or not. Aberdeen is only one example of it. Glass came in with a different style from McInnes, signed his own players then gets binned. Goodwin comes in with a different style again, signs a load of players, then gets binned. Now Robson. Whoever comes in will no doubt want to offload players and there's no guarantee the team will be in a far better position next season.
  16. Can't help but feel sorry for Robson. Gave up a good job to take the position (anyone would've), did well initially, but gets bagged after a year. I think he'll probably be able to get another job in the Championship where there will be less pressure, but who knows. I think too many clubs are chasing perfection. It's almost impossible now for a club to have a poor season (not even a terrible one) without bagging a manager or two. Hibs and Aberdeen have been the main culprits of late but I think all teams can be guilty of it. Maybe it's bigger than the manager? If clubs were prepared to give managers 2/3 years to try and build something then they'd maybe see some improvements. As for the next manager - Warnock would be a good laugh but he's not exactly a long term fix.
  17. All in all, I'm fairly happy with our business in the window. We needed a right back ️ We needed cover for left back ️ We wanted another midfielder with a bit of strength ️ We wanted another forward ️ And we haven't lost any key players. I can see why watching Kilmarnock bring in Stewart then Van Veen, might bring out a bit of envy but I think we've done OK.
  18. We werent paying Brophy £3k a week, that figure (if it's true) would've included an appearance fee. And he hardly ever appeared.
  19. November apparently. I reckon that website has just looked at the table and guessed what clubs would he interested / have a chance of signing him. As much as I'd be delighted to bring him in, I can't see it. Also, he's hardly kicked a ball this year, so no guarantee he'll hit the numbers he did last year.
  20. You've answered your own question. Of course, we need to look at each game individually, when is a draw 2 points dropped and when is it a good point? We've won the same amount of games as Kilmarnock, yet sit 3 points behind them. Had we drawn with them in Paisley, rather than losing, we'd be equal with them on points. We've lost 3 more games than Kilmarnock and Dundee. As I said, only Livingston have lost more games than us. I'm not suggesting we should be playing for a draw against other teams, just pointing out that when we don't win we tend to get beat rather than hanging on for a draw.
  21. One of our problems this year as that we haven't drawn a lot of games. Only Livingston have lost more games in the league this season (Ross County and us both on 10 defeats). If we could turn some of those losses into draws in the second half of the season and get a similar amount of wins then we could end up finishing 4th.
  22. I've been watching St Mirren for too long not to look at stats like this and get nervous.
  23. Korea stumble into the next round after a 96th minute equaliser against Saudi, then winning on penalties. They meet Australia on Friday. None of the bigger sides have really hit form yet. I'd fancy Australia to win that tie, but who knows.
