  1. Films set in British Columbia (Vancouver and Nelson respectively). Recently watched Runaway with Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons. Aldo filmed in Vancouver. Not a comedy. A Michael Crichton crime drama. Very dated. I recall a film review about Stake out. "Why so much violence in something that is supposed to be a comedy?" There is also the follow up Stake out 2.
  2. .. and they accidentally bump into the star player but fail to recognise him ( or her). "Oops. Sorry. I didn't see you there" "That's okay. I am a bit nervous myself" Later .. "Who was that guy. He should look where he's going or they should throw him out" Ho ho ho.
  3. Although there is an ongoing storyline, each episode introduces characters who don't keep reappearing episode after episode. Watching an episode on its own is good fun. By contrast a lot of new series are just one long story such as Breaking Bad, The Man in the High Castle, Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek Picard. Rather pointless watching any episode if you haven't watch ALL the previous episodes.
  4. What about John Lennon and "Raspberry Fields Forever"?
  5. Obviously the world is a safer place now. Even if the wrong person managed to get hold of the disk, they would struggle to find a computer that can read it.
  6. If our heroes just fail to catch a helicopter to take them out of a war zone, it takes off without them and then explodes.
  7. Been watching this recently. A nice balance of self contained episodes within an ongoing storyline. Very enjoyable.
  8. People like to live in peaceful quiet little villages where the murder rate is 500 times the national average.
  9. If you were to walk down the high street and suddenly burst into song there is a good chance people will think there is something wrong with you. By contrast in the films, crowds gather round, complete strangers join in to sing the second or third verse of a song you have just made up and finally everybody dances down the street arm in arm singing the chorus in perfect harmony. Never happened in real life or at least I have never seen it.
  10. When beaming down to an alien planet the dangers there will only be fatal to people wearing red shirts. Aberdeen fans take note.
  11. A crime remains unsolved for years although the CIA, the FBI and the US Marshalls have all their best people working on the case. A local detective makes enquiries and get abused but is allowed to look at the evidence. The evidence includes a postcard with a postmark from somewhere like Cheyenne, Wyoming. On a hunch he flies up there and encounters the villain within the next ten minutes but he gets away.
  12. I thought it was more like 160,000 but I could be wrong. I always felt that Ireland had neutrality forced upon it. They might not have cared much for the Nazis but any decision to join the Allies would have seen British troops back on Irish soil, which given recent history would simply not have worked. Better to remain neutral and avoid giving Germany any excuse to invade. IIRC the Royal Navy ensured their perimeter was large enough to ensure an invasion of Ireland was less likely. I also read somewhere that the secret services of Britain and Ireland was closer that anyone admitted Once the USA entered the war, Ireland was less concerned about Germany and were maybe less neutral than before.
  13. Happy Aphelion Day everybody. ☺
  14. Firing a gun at a locked door will always get it open. The first shot will always do the job and the bullet will never fly off and hurt anyone.
  15. Mallaig in Scotland is twinned with Miyarm in Japan.
  16. Cousin of Ben Nevis .. and Glen Coe.
  17. Police admit they had been watching him for the last three years with a strong indication that something was wrong. However he had wrong footed them on many occasions and disguised himself well. Not least of which was that he actually supports Cowdenbeath.
  18. No chance. Second bottom of the league. Just above Fort William. Oops I thought you were talking about something else.
  19. Actor John Lithgow is married to Lynn. She is originally from Bathgate.
  20. In the USA it looks like the worse cases are states where communal responsibility sounds too much like Communism.
  21. To clarify: "the doctor's surgery was flooded with cases of diahorrea" is not as bad as "the doctor's surgery was literally flooded with cases of diahorrea".
  22. Ganymede orbits Jupiter. China has a larger population than San Marino. Some people like pineapple on their pizza. Not me! Thulium is a rare earth element. 47 is a prime number.
  23. Have I been part of a global pandemic? Yes. Close thread.
