Have to echo the posts about the over the top reaction to the second half yesterday. It' utterly bizarre folk don't get why it was inevitable the game went the way it did.

I wasnt surprised the game went the way it did. I was just surprised that we didnt do anything to change it.

If we wanted to just close the game out and secure the win I dont understand why we didnt bolster the midfield.

Putting Slattery up top wide right seemed a bit wild.

As it was Livvy were getting chances as the defence had no protection. Extra bodies in there might have helped fill the space.

  2. A big part of the problem with our form is that we have had a string of injuries and suspensions during the course of the season which have stopped us fielding a settled side.

SK might get cut more slack for that if some if his decisions on how to deal with that hadnt been so mental (Wilko in midfield) and he hadnt ignored such obvious facts (we would be better with Spencer & Gent in their natural positions).

Too often he has tried to be too clever about it instead of just doing the safe/simple thing. Which ironically, was what got him so much success last season.

Re KVV, you can never have too many good players in the building and SK seems to be one of the few managers who could get him playing at his best consistently. I dont see the finances working in our favour and Im not sure he and Mika would compliment each other, but if it can be made to work and it doesnt stop us addressing midfield and defence then we would be mad not to look at it. Especially if we could offload Shaw and/or Wilkinson.

I dont see anyone coming in for Obika or Bair.

Mere speculation but I wonder if Wilkinson reckons that things haven’t worked out the way he wanted to and has a move back down south lined up.  Kettlewell has proved adept at moving players on.  Is that why he hasn’t even featured off the bench the past 2 games?

This would create space in the squad for another striker, why not a promising U23 from, say, Spurs.

    Mere speculation.

    Any detectives on here?

Dropping the image into the thread - "concept" being the operative word here I think.

Probably pie in the sky! But if North Lanarkshire Council wanted to come on board with something like this at Ravenscraig, I dont think there would be too much opposition to leaving Fir Park!

Nice wee shopping centre, cinema complex and bowling alley with restaurants and bars!

Extra footfall boosts sales for local businesses and increases attendances at Fir Park. Get a rail line and bus terminus in there and we are on a winner.

Level Brandon Parade and use the space to build affordable homes!

Obviously never gonna happen, but nice to dream.....

Unfortunately, with 20 goals in only 14 matches he isn't doing much to convince your Spurs buddy he's wrong.

I think if Harry Kane had moved to Man City he may well have matched those figures. Just look at Haalands numbers.

The goals he has scored this season is probably a bigger reflection on the difference between Bayern and Spurs than the 2 leagues.

    Adams is still wrong though.

  6. Like others, I have mixed feelings over this news.

Change was definitely needed but it remains to be seen if that is going to be for the better or otherwise.

I used to cringe when the current incumbents were described as amateurs, and whilst technically speaking they may have been carrying out their duties for no remuneration, I always felt that it was a bit disrespectful, as without them we would have no one with any business acumen whatsover running the club.

I think both Jim and Derek should be commended for the service they have given the club over the years with little thanks, and we need to hope that the plan they leave in place will stand us in good sted going forward.

We need to scrutinise what comes next and make sure it is the right thing for the club, and the Well Society need to be seen to be front and centre of it.

  7. FWIW, I dont think you should be able to sit on the Well Society  board if you are already a board member.

Its not quite a conflict of interests but the WS Board and representatives should be there to answer to and represent the interestsof Well Society members.

You cant do that impartially if you are already a decision maker on the board proper.

Albeit I do accept that our representatives from the Well Society do go on to be members of the board proper.

We need to make sure the horse comes before the cart.

If we lose in Paisley on Saturday are we all agreed Kettlewell is done ? I’ve seen a few folk say he might get to the Livi game but if we do lose at the weekend then Tavernier gets a hat-trick of pens on Christmas eve then we’re off to Aberdeen. If the worst happens would that be a 16 game winless run ??  I can’t say for sure but that must be up there with the worst sequence of results we’ve ever had 🤷‍♂️

I dont think anyone expects us to beat St Mirren, Rangers or Aberdeen on current form so having given him a stay of execution so far, I dont expect SK to he emptied before Livvy.

However, if we dont win any of those games he  goes into that one with no win in 15.

Lose to Livvy, a direct rival, then we are likely bottom of the league with no wins in 16.

    No one survives that.

Wilkinson has fallen into that weird hole that Polworth lived in, imo. Underlying numbers are good: scores goals, does stuff. Actually watching him: Contributes f**k all outside scoring/making goals.

A weird place to live in, but there we are.

Feels very much like an impact sub.

Doesnt work hard enough to merit a start imho.

If he keeps scoring off the bench, I think we can live with that.

  10. I had hoped after the Celtic game we would get back to some sort of consistency of selection / tactical approach.

However, we were missing Slattery (and Miller obvs) on Saturday and we are going to be missing Paton tonight.

SK certainly hasnt had any luck with injuries and suspensions but his solutions to the problems being placed in front of him never appear to be the simplest or most obvious ones. Similarly with his substitutions.

Obviously he has more information about the players than I do, so there may be reasons for his decision making, but its coming across as overthinking things and if you are not getting the results then fans will obviously question the decision making.

For the life of me I cant understand why he isnt going with Gent and Spencer at wing back to provide width and attacking threat. Given some of the  other combinations he has gone with I dont see how it is any more risky.

McGinn has been one of our better performers this season so hopefully his return will improve things, but there will be big choices to be made in defence to find the best 3 from McGinn, Mugabi, Casey, Butcher and Blaney.

Midfield wise will we see Davor? Or will he persist with Butcher?

At least up front we know our best 2 so it should be Obika and Biereth again with Wilkinson coming off the bench.

Not expecting to win tonight and would take a draw but we cannot afford to lose.

SK needs to get it right tonight.

  11. Certainly expect a pretty close game. Dundee looked more than decent against us at Dens Park and their form/points total since then would back that up. I liked the look of the boy McCowan against us. Looked like a talented player and he has caight the eye on the limited highlights I have seen of Dundee since then. We will need to neutralise his threat.

Hoping our performance and point at Celtic Park and the international break has settled things down a bit for us. Felt like SK had started to lose the plot a bit with team selections and tactics due to our bad run of results. But Saturday was a return to a bit of structure and solid defending which had been absent in previous weeks.

Probably not a must win after Saturday, but certainly a must not lose and a win would be very welcome.

A welcome and very unexpected point. Thought defensively it's the best we've been in weeks, with the Bevis and Butcher insanity aside.

I thought Bevis was unlucky. I thought he made a genuine attempt to play the ball and did come away with it. But he takes the boys standing leg as well so cant argue with the pen. Unlike Butcher, I dont think he could avoid the challenge, although you could argue he shouldnt have gone to ground.

Totally agree with the rest of your post though.

Very pleasing performance and result all the more so for it being unexpected!

  13. Good disciplined performance. SK got the team selection and tactics right and the players worked their socks off to prove they are not ready to throw the manager under the bus just yet. Thats something to build on and try and repair whats become a fragile confidence.

That said, I agree with Handsome Devil. Next week is a different challenge and we will have to be a bit more forward thinking.

Id be happy to keep a similar shape, but we could maybe afford to tweak it by being more attacking in the wing back areas and play Spencer and Gent in their natural positions to get some attacking width into the team.

We also have the option of pulling the defensive midfielder and putting on another forward if needs be. Id like to see if Obika and Biereth could forge a partnership whilst they are both fit. They are the best 2 forwards we have ability wise.

Good to have options again and go into next week off what feels like a very positive result and performance.
