  1. At the start of this run we had a settled way of playing and were putting in good performances.

We had our 5th chouce striker up front and couldnt score goals.

Our first choice striker is now available but we seem to have ripped up the playbook and gone for totally mental team selections and formations.

SK is clearly over thinking things.

Lets get back to what was working and supplement it with the little bit of extra quality we have coming back in Biereth and Obika. Even Wilkinson through the centre. Just lets bin Bair, Biereth and Wilkinson as a three.....

I saw Georgie Gent's Instagram profile earlier. It turns out his dad died at the start of October, that could go a long way to explaining his lack of action so far.

    Sad to hear that.

Could also explain SKs persistence in playing Spencer at LB and SOD at RB.

These are the types of things that we as fans dont know about, and dont really think about when criticising managers and players.

Similar to Slattery last year, its totally understandable the club wouldnt want to comment on such private matters, but it puts context around what the manager and players are having to deal with.

They are all human beings at the end of the day......

  3. Whilst we are on an absolutely terrible run, its important to note that the likes of Hibs, Aberdeen, Hearts, Killie, Livvy etc havent exactly stolen a march on us.

That would suggest that their form has been equally poor.

Our problem, and more so Kettlewells, is that our defeats have all come in the one go with only a solitary draw to punctuate them.

I am certainly concerned by our slump, but totally agree that we need to stop binning managers.

That said, SK does need to show he has what it takes to turn this around fairly soon. Even a few draws to stop the rot would do.

That was simply a bad game of football.

I didnt think it was the worst Id seen at Rugby Park since the plastic went down, but we didnt help with playing the long ball game for large parts. I thought it was somewhat ironic that we were actually more effective when we got the ball down and played. More so when Slattery came on. I thought Killie looked most effective down the left side with Deas and Kennedy pairing up well, although I do like Armstrong. He is a real pain in the arse and doesnt give you a minutes peace. A game of fine margins, but one Killie ultimately deserved to win.

  5. We could really do with a win here.

4 defeats on the bounce are never good. But given the performances and who we were playing in 3 of them its not the disaster it appears on first examination.

The Livvy game/performance was awful though (probably the first real stinker under Kettlewell). That cant happen again.

Hopefully we get a reset and SK can freshen the team/squad up a little.

We need a bounce into this next set of games.

  6. If you want a better tv deal you need a more competitive league that you can sell outside of Scotland.

To get a more competitive league you would need to split gate money 50/50.

The money the big 2 would lose at the gate could be re-couped over time via a better tv deal.

Add in better competition week to week should ensure teams are better prepared for European football.

Address the number of the teams in the league to reduce familiarity and we might get somewhere close to where we need to be.

Thays the way it works in my head anyway!

I watch it. He was very "meh" The whole programme and set up is a complete shit show.
Needs someone who should be able to say to folks "that's fucking stupid" etc.

Yup. There is no reasonable debate on these programmes.

Just a series of people scoring cheap party political points and changing the opinion of no one.

Stopped watching QT years ago and Debate night will be joining it back in the bin.

Bit of a crossover here but did anyone catch our Chairman on the debate thing last night?

I've not watched yet but a few mates did and they weren't full of praise.

I didnt think he said anything too controversial. But by the same token he didnt say anything that had me applauding.

    He's a businessman and a football chairman.

I wouldnt expect his politics to mirror mine just because he is a Motherwell fan.

Not too sure why he would go on to be honest, other than the fee if there is one.

The whole programme was a bit meh.

Hello, this is a polite reminder that A View from the Terrace is on television tonight @ 10:30pm on the BBC Scotland channel.

This evening's episode should be "a good laugh" and features an in-depth interview with St Mirren's Chief Operating Officer, Mr Keith Lasley. One for the lads! And the lassies!

I hope you can join us. Thank you.

Surely that episode should have been one for all the "Housewives" out there? 🤪

Having watched the highlights a couple of times now, my thoughts are that I can’t see any difference between Millers red card and Wilkinson getting booked for diving. Can’t really see any difference.

Also, looks like the Livi guy that Miller ‘caught’ was running towards another Well player rather than the goal.

VAR needs changed from Clear and Obvious to Give the Ref another look.

I think there's more contact on Wilkinson than there is on the Livvy player. You can actually see it clearly from the camera angles available.

They are either both fouls or neither are.

Not sure it would have changed the game as the pen would have come a bit late in the day, but there does need to be consistency in decision making from our referees.

VAR was supposed to help with that.

  11. It IS soft, but you know if it was the other way round its being given!

I think as fans all we want is consistency, so if they are getting that as a foul, Im wanting it as well.

Re Biereths goal v Hibs, slightly different in that he and the Hibs player are both pushing and pulling at each other all the way into the box so can be seen as eeksy peeksy. The Livvy boy has no contact with Sima, just gets between him and the ball and Sima pushes him. But that just gets us back to the original point.

I look forward to Oor Wullie letting us away with that kinda thing on Saturday!

It feels like we're kind of caught between 2 stools at the moment.

Kettlewell's been in charge for 25 games and we've only failed to score in 3 of them. Twice against St Mirren this season and yesterday against Rangers at Ibrox. The last 2 games is the first time we've failed to score B2B under Kettlewell.

We've obviously pivoted from the 3412 to this 3421 because of all the injuries which is getting us a foothold in games and giving us (effectively) 4 central midfielders on the park which has plus points and when you look at our performances you'd say that it's broadly working but there are also some (obvious) drawbacks.

Big CareBair is, ironically given the echo chamber doubling down @Casagolda mentions, doing the stuff he was brought to the club to do. He's acting as a foil - I'd be surprised if there was ever any expectation that a) he'd play as much as he had or b) that we'd get many goals out him.

I'd imagine we'll stick with the 4 CMs against Celtic at the weekend but after that given we had Shaw and Wilkinson come off the bench yesterday I guess the decision is whether we drop one (Paton?) to get a 2nd striker on the park from the start.

Id be shocked and stunned to see any of the midfield dropped this week given how well they have played as a unit.

For me the only position that is up for grabs is up front.

I agree Theo has done everything that has been asked of him and it would be harsh to drop him. But the harsh reality is the only thing missing from the last 2 performances is goals. That being the case there has to be a strong argument for Ollie Shaw to start.

I do think there is every chance though that SK goes same again with a quiet word in Theo's ear about what he needs to do to retain his place.

The only other position I think could be up for question right now is SODs. With Spencer coming over to his natural position and Gent coming into left back.

However, again, I think this would be harsh and I dont see it happening.

Wasn’t there but having seen it back, I don’t think Shaw’s miss is as bad as being made out.

A confident striker I’m sure takes that with his laces. However, it was the tentative finish of a man who hasn’t scored since July last year. Once again though, it looked like he made a positive impact in his short time on the park.

Still, it does feel like some fans have made their mind up on Shaw(like Bair)before he’d even kicked a ball for us. He’s played about 40 mins so far and from what I’ve seen, he’s caused problems and we’ve carried more of a threat when he’s been on the pitch.

Also funny how it’s now, if only we had Van Veen… When the big man was getting slaughtered by presumably the same sections of our support for large chunks of last season for being lazy and missing too many chances.

I think Shaw can come good and at least be an able replacement until Biereth gets fit again.

No harm to Theo, who has been way better than I expected, but Shaw looks more mobile and has a better touch than Theo, so would appear more suited to the lone striker role, which is what I think we need to do to keep controlling games as we are with the extra body in midfield. Nobody is going to run up a big score against us if we keep the ball.

Its how we turn this good play into goals and more importantly points is the question. But Im certain SK is aware of that and is actively working on it.

Getting Shaw fully fit and in the starting 11 would be a step in the right direction.....

That is a tad harsh imho.

I know Sportscene highlights do not always do justice but actually felt we were not as unlucky as been made out. Kelly brought off 2,3 even 4 very decent saves. They had more possession and almost twice as many shots. Yes their goal was a fluke. And yes Slattery and Paton had good efforts just wide.

Shaws effort was on target and was hit with pace. Granted it was straight at keeper but Butland is a good goalie and narrowed the angle.

The ball never fell for us today. Much like last week. It happens but hopefully once we get past Celtic we can get back to picking up points. Not saying we cannot next weekend but I suspect similar performance and outcome. Plucky losers 😩

Having been at the game, I would disagree. Rangers maybe had more possession, but for the most part it was in front of us and wasnt harming us at all. The chances on Sportscene were literally everything good they did in the game.

When we got the ball we moved it quickly and got into some very good positions and had some very good chances.

Not saying we deserved to win the game, but we certainly didnt deserve to lose.

If we get the same level of performance next week we wont be far away.

I would feel a lot more optimistic about getting 2 goals if we had last season's KVV leading the line, who could pop up with an absolute screamer or magic moment to contribute at least one of those... but as we're at the Bair-bones (har har) up front, I'm struggling to see it happening.  (No ill will to Theo btw, just a reality he'll struggle to make an impact, just as many of his predecessors have done).

I think we should put up a good fight though, Ketts seems to have got the attitude right.

I'll suppress my natural pessimism temporarily and declare my heart says a 1-1 draw (but really my head says 2-0)

    Feed the Bair!

    Feed the Bair!

To be fair I was quite upbeat ahead of this weekend. But watching them beat Real Betis brought back a cold hard dose of reality.

I also think we stand a better chance when I and others think we have no chance. Call it reverse psychology or whatever but I think our chances of winning or even getting a point are remote. It certainly would help if we had any strikers available that could score.

Winning there is always a longshot.

The fact that we havent done it there in the league since 1997 tells you everything.

Not saying at all we will win on Sunday. Just dont think them beating what some have described as a poor Betis side 1-0 at home is any grounds for despair.

We will have to be at our best and work really hard to get anything at all, and Im probably going to hate myself at 5pm on Sunday for being stupid enough to buy a ticket, but its the hope that kills you!

    😆😆😆

Yes. Despite us thinking we can win. Based not only on our performances this season but also theirs. The sad truth is there is little likelihood of this happening.

Their squad is worth circa £90m. Tonight they brought a player off the bench they paid £4.5m for. We may bring on Oli Shaw, Nathan McGinley or maybe one or two kids. It is a total mismatch.

Hope I am wrong but tonite proved they have the squad and squad depth to beat all other teams (other than Celtic) comfortably. Somewhat unsurprisingly 🤷‍♂️

Didnt see the game tonight, but heard Beales post match interview, he didnt exactly sound ecstatic! He said they werent great in the first half, but were better in the second. I think they are still a work in progress and whilst their resources are undoubtedly far superior to ours I dont see us rolling over and getting our tummy tickled as we have sometimes in the past. First goal is key. They get it and it could be a long afternoon, but the longer it goes the more their fans will start to get disgruntled. Remember, the league is everything to them this season. Europe will buy Beale time, but if the league form continues they will be on his back.
