  1. Just had a look back at the highlights of the game (the Inverness and QP versions are different) and they both indicate that Queen's were the better team. Good flowing football from us, rarely resorting to hoofball and creating many of the best chances in the match. The Spiders midfield appeared pretty relaxed but the same group for Inverness were a bit disjointed.

Inverness appeared to be tactically poor with no real strategy showing from their play. It would be interesting to know what Dodds' team talk before the match was and how were they set up for the game. They still threatened from time to time with nice breakaways and made a good few opportunities for themselves. Bray, when he came on, showed some great touches but MacKay, on his big day, didn't really show. And it had to be Jake that scored for them!

McKenna was great in goal and it was good to see him, even at 16, telling the defence to get their act together. Longridge at right back had one of his best games in ages - long may that continue and Robson pushing forwards is good to watch. Spong was also great - I don't think he sits as deep as Mal did last season but if he keeps playing like that, we have nothing to worry about. He and Charlie will develop a greater understanding as the season progresses. Hepburn Paton and Thomas can be really exciting going forward and there could be the makings on a good attack line there. Seemed to tire a bit towards the end which could be a worry as the season progresses.

All in all, a good display from a pretty young QP team and great to get the league season off to a winning start. I honestly expected a one all draw but the new lads brought in have settled well and I have some hopes for a good mid-table finish.

Queens seem slightly less attractive to me this season but appear to have added a bit of physicality and bite. Still technically gifted though and certainly aren’t finishing anywhere near the bottom.

I didn’t think there was too much in the match excluding towards the end when it became untidy and rushed from ourselves. That’s to be expected when playing Lewis Hyde and Carson in the middle. I thought we created slightly more good chances while queens played the nicer football.

I think we lack pace, match winners and flair. A pretty basic, one dimensional team that without additions will huff and puff our way to 8th. Someone like Logan Chalmers is needed.

Pretty even on shots but possession very much in QP's favour. That's how it seemed to me at the game as well (apart from the last ten minutes). I thought Thistle were pretty poor today and felt they did not look as composed as they did last season. That said, there is some steel about them as they kept pushing right to the end.

Good luck down at Ayr next week.

  3. Good win for the Queen's but the Highland Thistle were pretty poor - I was expecting much more from them but didn't seem to create much. Had a bit of pressure in the refs added time but didn't really build anything from it. McKenna was great in goal and Jack Spong showing a lot of promise. Hepburn played really well today and Paton ran himself ragged.

    Good start to the season.

  4. Looking forward to this. I think it'll be tight game with nerves on both sides. First league game of the season so the Thistle fans are likely to be in fine voice. However, they can turn against their team (or manager) fairly quickly so an early goal for Queen's would be good.

Tight game, 2-1 for the QP.

Sorry fellas, you’re missing the big picture. Lesser has become part of Haughey’s legacy project. We’re losing our club by stealth. We’re still on the pathway I predicted 18 months ago. Celtic mini-me with a sprinkle of SFA as a distraction.

I don't go along with that - plenty of clubs sell the naming rights of their stadiums and Haughey's investment in our club probably deserves some recognition. Anyway, City Stadium is a whole lot better than some of the names out there. It's not the naming rights that bother me, it's the lack respect from the committee for the members, season ticket holders and fans that bother me.

And it's still be 'Lesser' to me anyway.

  6. I'm actually looking forward to the new league season. I'm not expecting the dizzy heights we attained in the first part of last season but I'm certainly not expecting anything like the woeful performance towards the end. We have some good new talent coming through and we do need an 'extrovert'  who is able to inspire others out on the field. We've got a few exciting prospects and its will be interesting to watch how they develop under the Beuker/Veldman partnership.

There is nothing on the walls at all to identify it as a Queens Park club. The closest thing is a QP badge on the Tennents tap.

What's happened to all the squad pictures, and kits. Especially sad to see the donors wall gone. Got my Father in laws name put on one of the boards for his 80th birthday just as the pandemic started (at a not insignificant cost) but it's nowhere to be seen.

I was a bit annoyed that the donors wall disappeared too. I put money into that as well and it was nice for my kids to be able to point out to their pals their dad's name up there with Sir Alex. Sometimes I wonder if the alienation of the old supporters is deliberate but they're not doing a lot to build a sustainable fan base. The tickets for schools is a brilliant idea but that will take a while to bed in and we will need to do something for the parents who (hopefully) will pick up with their kids new found interest in QP.

Yes even before the red card we were unconvincing at best. I know all  part of the process etc. Queen of the South were quite comfortable throughout and had hoped for us to build on the Elgin result.

Most frustrating aspect of the second half was us repeatedly floating free kicks and corners right to their keeper.

Agree Healy deserves the start over Hepburn next week.

I wasn't at the game but the stats do give some hope. Got to convert the shots to goals and shore up the defence so we don't let in the opposition get shots in - they had four on target but two of them went in. Need to do a lot more with our possession.

Well that was good fun, eh? Lot's of positives but how good is Cammy Bruce? This also sounds daft given Paton scored 4 - but I really liked the look of McLeish when he came on.

Cam Bruce has impressed me every time I've seen him - very mature player for his age and puts everything into the match. Great prospect.

Hepburn looks like he’ll be a good signing, especially if he bulks up as the season goes on

Met the young guy at a pre season event at Lesser - he's a great lad with bags of enthusiasm. He'll do well wherever he ends up. His time at Bayern Munich has really helped him, he thinks.

You’re the only club on the country that the governing body has bailed out by buying their stadium. Ask Clydebank, third Lanark, airdrie etc fans if they think it’s fair?!

Loads of other clubs have had to sell their stadium to supermarket chains to stay alive or they would have folded as well.

The SFA in no way "bailed out' QP - it was a deck loaded entirely in their favour.

I'm aware that other clubs sold their soul to supermarket chains. If I remember right, St Johnstone got a great deal from Asda for Muirton.  I lived in Dunkeld at the time and loved going to that ground.

Maybe because these other fans in a way can relate the issues thier own clubs have had in the past or currently going through and are seeing red flags. Lower league football fans at times like to know what's going on with other teams in the league. A decent football fan of any club doesn't want to see another club disappear or have the thier fans have the p"ss taken out of them and the wool pulled over thier eyes.

I understand that, and there are many great fans of all teams on here. However, we must recognise the other side too - the insecure fans that go on to other teams pages to try and take the Michael. Fair comment is good but sometimes comments are just plain nasty with no basis in reality.

    Discussion good - abuse bad.

    Thanks for your comment, foreverarover

I think a lot of the stuff from fans of diddy clubs towards QP on here is petty jealousy. Why shouldn’t Queens Park spend the money they’ve made from selling Hampden to push on? Had the chance to build a brilliant wee compact ground but looked to have absolutely fucked that up, but that’s been covered.

But in what way were Queens Park shafted in the sale? You think it’s up to the governing body to indefinitely subsidise QP and pay for their ground’s upkeep when other clubs have to pay their own way?

Queens Park could have said no to the deal.

£5m for Hampden is not a good deal in anyone's books. QP were indeed shafted by the SFA.

Sure, we could have said no to the deal, and died as a club.

The truth of the matter was accept the deal or go out of business. We chose the red pill.
