  1. I have been a big supporter of Archie and giving him a chance when we got relegated last season but after today and the abject performances especially away this was the right move. I’d prefer a Thistle man in charge. Someone who knows the club but I’d happily take someone higher profile with a good coaching reputation though if we have the budget for it like a Robbie Nielson. I do think Lennon and Duffy will apply and McCall would be very interested as he’s long said the only job he’d leave Ayr for would be to come back and get a 2nd chance with us. He does love the club and time he spent here even though he has major personal Issues. Not least drink and gambling so I’m told. It will definitely not be Stubbs or Yogi. I can tell you I’ve heard they won’t entertain managers who have a past of falling out with ownership and boards. Yogi is enemy #1 on that front. We’re quite an attractive club due to our location, our squad is decent and can certainly play much better and we’ve got the new training facility coming next year. Let’s get behind the team, Gerry and Scott. It’s important this doesn’t define the season and we look to let the players and club know we are behind them.
  2. Their scared to death of the fans completely turning on Archie. There is no doubt these are done to try and get fans to stop the booing and abuse when we play like toilet. I would think the best way to stop fans from being negative is to not lose goals late on in the game and play the full 90 minutes. I’m sick of us only playing for 80 minutes and never learning that holding onto a 1 goal lead and then defending it is going to end in disaster.
  3. Reserve league game today has Banzo starting in midfield with Brice our new Belgian enforcer alongside. Let’s hope they both get through the games unscathed and build some fitness as to be honest we need some changes in the first team. It also seems there is a defensive trialist. No other information. Is O’Wares injury a bad one or do we expect him back? Let’s hope he’s not out long term or we truly are in relegation trouble.
  4. The word is that he’s got through September. If a gap opens and we aren’t competitive he’s gone. If he can stay in the top 4 and be within a couple of wins of top team , or be top he stays. The board aren’t stupid. They said he’s got this season to get us back up. If he can’t he’s gone. So it only makes sense that if by end of September we’re languishing mid table he’s very sackable.
  5. Glad we’re sorting this out one post at a time. I thought it was all going to end up a bit Macca. An almost signing. Can’t wait to see Souley on the park scoring against the Arabs this weekend!
  6. The theories on here by the unqualified are at peak levels and mostly by non Thistle fans who should worry about their own clubs.
  7. I couldn’t be arsed trying to spell / type his name. Any little thing on this forum and it’s pelters. It’s like a Jags forum police force for abuse.
  8. https://www.kingfut.com/2017/06/06/coulibaly-interview-depart-ahly/ Interesting read of the situation through Souley's eyes at his Egyptian club. Seems he had several issues with the club not least his family's challenges there. I'm excited to see who else comes in now till the close of the window. A CB/RB and a defensive minded CM with some experience and two big mouths on them would be fantastic but let's wait and see. What a time to be a jags fan! ;-)
  9. 2 down and 2 to go Gerry! A midfield leader with some experience would be fantastic.
  10. There is no doubt we still have that Achilles heel or not being able to finish games strong. The issue is Archie seems unable to fix it. I don’t know why, but it’s a big concern that 2nd half of games we seem to dwindle minute by minute. Is it fitness? Is it mental? Both? If it happens this year then has he learnt from last year, in fact last 5 years as it’s a trait of his management. One thing that will help us having 2-3 stronger players, a deeper squad and a full sub bench. We were comfortable Saturday but that last 10 minutes just sits there like a fart in a warm room. We can’t get rid of it. Very positive play on weekend and now a signing. What a time to be a jags fan [emoji57].
  11. I have a good friend that is an ICT diehard and he said the boy is a player. Yogi tbf has done well in bringing solid players in his time in Inverness as many we’ve seen go on to bigger clubs. I’m willing to see what this lad can do with a stable club and hopefully us backing him. We needed more forwards and pace is team. This boy brings that. So let’s hope he can do the job. Glad we have got him in. I think 2-3 more are needed and now English window is closed I expect some loan signings.
  12. No doubt. the last two minutes of Gerry's update on the website is directed at the fans as social media and forums are incredibly negative regards disappointing recruitment and last weeks result when we had a 2nd bite at the cherry against Ayr and played even worse than in Betfred Cup. Every tweet or FB post Thistle has released has fans trolling about no signings and player budget cuts on them. They've got the message...no doubt. Especially from the season ticket holders I am sure. As it is McParland tribute day and first home game it is clear the club doesnt want any booing or negative signs or chants towards Archie and I understand why, to support the players as we need a win. Whilst many are wanting to see another direction and feel Archie's time is up I have never been at a game (outwith the Sandy Clark reign which was a complete unmitigated disaster...showing my age now) where Jags fans at Firhill have chanted to sack the manager or gotten overly vitriolic, Sevco style. Booing yes and it may well be warranted, especially this past year, but never fully fledged activism to get rid of management team and I am glad Gerry had the baws to come on and be video'd answering those fans. Many still won't be pleased but I think it is key to note that the new players and guys who decided to stay like Erskine, Doolan and Elliott should be supported as best we can at weekend. They love the club and it's not the players we are upset with. It's clear there are some deeper challenges. I am prepared to see what happens tomorrow regards the game as it is our 1st league game of season. I always try to feel confident that the team could get a nice result and with McCarthy, Storer and Elliott back in and we have two signings potentially in next couple of days. What a time to be a Jags fan ;-) I have a particular disliking for Falkirk for no other reason than on of my old teachers at High School was a Bairn. He was a p***k and a terrible teacher.
  13. Your view of bigots is your own opinion. It may differ from someone else. You and I will agree on some things and disagree on others. I’m just stating how do you define that? I’m completely tolerant and accepting within the bounds of views that aren’t preaching violence and hurting others. Any political stance, world view or belief I will respect. I support a club that allows all view points to be accepted. Yours included. I don’t like the idea of moving in one direction or stating an agenda. Celtic and Rangers have adopted that and it hurts them is my point. They are exclusive instead of inclusive. For example, should we not allow people who are Tories or heaven forbid voted for Brexit to attend Firhill? Israeli supporters? At Celtic they fly Palestinian flags and have made their stance clear. (I’ve opened the can of worms...here come the remarks [emoji57]) or what about Americans who voted Trump or agree with him? I may disagree with them but I wouldn’t want them not to be welcome to our club I think isn’t what Thistle stands for. We’re a club for all. But I draw the line at preaching violence and when people push hurting others. So a bit harsh saying my view means bigots flourish. I believe in free expression and free will including speech. As we supposedly live in a democratic free nation. Tolerance to all cultures and views that don’t preach violent acts I believe should be allowed to come watch the Jags win, lose or draw. [emoji1303] #monthejags I know many may disagree and once again I respect that. I’d be happy to talk about this more off this thread with any fellow Jag. I get the feeling it’s making some uncomfortable and it’s understandable. Back to the football chat...
  14. It was addressed by Mr. John MacLean above. So then everyone should be able to express their liberal, conservative, religious, activist, social views at Firhill without anyone passing judgement then. Any view should be tolerated. Whether you or I dislike it. All I’m saying is once you start taking political positions it defines you and you inevitably will alienate supporters. I think it’s fine to do it but openly and public at matches. I’m not sure I agree with that. My disdain for the OF teams is partially due to that nonsense. Back to football...based on a few of the above posts we have 16-18 or so players including the feasible youth players who are making the step up. I’m usually pretty patient and relaxed when it comes to signings as it’s always slow at Firhill. We expect it as others like United, Falkirk etc bring in entire legions of players. I do think we are lacking about 4-5 players of solid quality. What’s odd is that the board and Archie stated we’d have as competitive a budget as anyone in this league. Know I’m not sure what that means? County and Dundee United seem to be out in front. Even Archie made a joke about Arabs affording his wages when we couldn’t. Dunfermline also have been making some waves. If we plan on competing at top level and win the league in this Archie’s sole season to redeem himself after last season, doing it with 15/16 first team players and 2-3 youth players isn’t going to work. I think we’ve got some nice players in. We’ve kept the ones we want to keep like Doolz and Squiddy. But for me as I stated previously. We lack some real guile and experience in key areas. 1-2 real operators at this level would only help us as we’ve got quite a young team overall. Plus we cant catch breaks with Banzo. I feel for him as I bet he really wants to be a part of the team and playing as much as he’s been out this past 2 years. A fit Banzo would make us far better.
  15. Because there’s no refugee support banner and a lack of signings? First time in 30 years you say...I’ve changed my mind. I’m all for mixing politics and football. Let’s make it 31 years Prof.
  16. 🤦 Other than weirdos who likes mixing sports and politics? I would think vast majority get away from that shit when at the match? Isn’t football supposed to bring us all together? [emoji6] Signing what players? Settle down there...
  17. We might also put off punters. Many don’t like politics in football. Shouldn’t we be a club for all and be completely inclusive? Left wing, moderate, right wing and everything else should be allowed to be at Firhill and not feel like Thistle fans have an agenda politically. Tolerance for all views will get the most punters through the door. You do that by keepers politics out of sport. You want to make a difference?...great everyone would agree with that but do it in your non Firhill time. We aren’t Celtic or Hibs. #wearethistle
  18. That ‘type’ of player is what we need. Not necessarily him as he’s a dick but It’s an opinion and a very valid one. As for Willo Flood I don’t think he’s the answer either as he’s past it and a head banger but a couple of players with some grit and experience is what we probably lack and why we seem to have good spells in games but don’t see out a full consistent 90 mins with teams pinning us back or finding out in areas we’re inexperienced. We also have 6-7 new players in the first XI which doesn’t help so we have to take that into consideration also. I’m concerned about the goalkeeper. As Bell looks like he may be a bomb scare. Lennox doesn’t look better and Sneddon whilst young, seems the best out of the three. We’ve lots to learn about these new players. Hopefully the good outweighs the bad.
  19. I agree. I highly doubt Shankland would want to move whilst settled and loving his football to a club in the same division. If we were still a top tier club I’d understand the potential move but I just don’t see it. On another note, I think we lack some real guile and leadership. A couple of bodies who can get the team in line if we need to get dirty and grind out a result. Doolan, Erskine and Elliott whilst tenured with the club and three of our best players I’ve never seen them as strong leaders on the field in this type of manner. I think we lack a defender and midfielder who can get stuck in and grab game by the scruff of the neck. The team we had under Lambie that went back to back promotions was filled with journeymen with some real guile. Danny Lennon and Martin Hardie both spring to mind as examples. I am not a huge fan of Paton but in our last promotion year I’d bet he was that type. Look around the squad. Young, unproven but they’ve got talent. But all top teams in their leagues have 2-3 big characters and leaders in the team. I am not convinced we have that in our team. If I was Archie I’d be looking to add that experience to my side ASAP.
  20. He said he has suffered from it for years if you read the article. Has had counseling or so he said. I’m not suggesting I’m defending his poor play for us, but this is from him in his interview. I’m glad he’s away just like most fans, but amazing how a player can be a gem and POTY one minute and falls of the map the next.
  21. Read the article posted above about him. He hates football and feels like he’s taken someone else’s spot. Look, with Bart’s if he didn’t suffer from depression and as he puts it a weak mind he’d be playing at a much higher level. He’s a cracking player when he cares and wants to give it his all. Sadly, I don’t believe him when he says he gives everything in every game as when your depressed I think it’s impossible to do that. He’ll have good games for you maybe for a while and then like he has done for us and other clubs just capitulate. I wish him all the best and hope he finds somewhere he can enjoy the game. He certainly did with us in his first season and hope he cherishes that and the top 6 achievement.
  22. Yeah. Archie mentioned it on the Jagzone interview this past week. He’ll be back in shortly I heard. Christie is a fit lad so I don’t see him being short when he returns. No confirmation about Bell but rumour is he is injured. Hope that’s not going to be a season long thing? I doubt it as seems club keeping it low key means it’s just a minor blip. On Edwards can we please give the guy a bloody break and move on!? Yes he left to stay in the premier league. Yes he’s young and wants to try and break into the Oz national side. He had a poor season, as did pretty much all the team but he was also part of the most successful Thistle side in over 30+ years. He was in my book one of our most dedicated players. Certainly didn’t shite it like #itsnoteasy did. Happy to get rid of him. I agree it’s time to move on and concentrate on our new team but if I where there today I would have also applauded him. No bitterness from me that a young lad, who worked very hard for us when he was on the park, was incredibly hard working, wants to move on when he negotiated it in his contract. All the best to him. Don’t know many, if any, that would turn down a move for more pay, more exposure and a top 6 league side tbf. Easy to point the finger. We should aspire to be a better fan base than that. Seems like today was a great exercise and the players enjoyed it. I also hear rumour we may get 2-3 more bodies in the next couple of weeks as league cup preparation and matches begin. It’s taking shape and Archie’s story in paper shows me it was correct decision to hold onto him. He’s motivated and starting fresh with a new team and spine of team who are Jags through and through. Mon’ the jags. Looking forward to season starting now.
  23. Falling out over a potential new signing. 🤦 Get a grip of yourselves. Archie had said on Jagzone that he couldn’t move on more defenders until he gets Keown and/or Barton off the books so I’m surprised by this new continental connection. Team taking some good shape and so excited for start of new season. Can’t believe it’s upon us.
  24. I think we have the makings of a really solid championship side. Obviously we need them to bond and have the right mentality but i think Archie did the right thing getting rid of 3/4 of the squad at the end of the season. He kept our best half dozen players who have a real connection to the club and hopefully that means no hangover going into this season sharp and ready for the fight. Starting to feel glass half full now. A few more bodies in the door and I think we'll be ready to enjoy this season.
