  1. Well played board and Weir family in securing more funding and security for next 3 years on youth academy. https://ptfc.co.uk/ptfc-news/thistle-weir-youth-academy-receives-additional-600k-funding/ Always welcome and grateful when club makes wise decisions. Player development has to be a major focus for club stability. [emoji1319][emoji1319][emoji1319]
  2. Agree. It’s Bollocks. We’ve got 3 keepers. Makes no sense at all.
  3. From what the board and Archie have shared the budget will be extremely competitive. I remember Archie stating that he expects same number of players in squad this year as last year. I can only see that happening if we can get Barton, Keown and Storey off the books but surely these three won't destroy the opportunities we have to bring in the players we need? So looks like we're making some moves and that is 6 new players with I would think 5-6 more to come. I highly doubt Archie will be in favour if we are to try and win the league if we are light in several key areas. Look what happened last year...we lost all our full backs and ended up with issues in midfield due to injury. That cannot happen this year. We have to learn from our mistakes. With step up of a few youngsters also like Fitzpatrick as happened with McCarthy and Penrice hopefully we replace majority of the 17 we let go.
  4. I think you’re right to put County as favourites and United to yet again flop with style. I also agree with where you think us Jags will finish. But I’m going to swap us with ICT based on squads at this point. Could change as we get 3-4-5 more bodies in but below is my early doors prediction. Ross County. Dunfermline. Falkirk. Morton. Dundee United. Inverness. Thistle. QOTS. Ayr. Alloa. If we get some solid signings in this next week I could see us around the playoffs but I’m concerned. Very concerned.
  5. Jags at top and jags at bottom in last two posts. Not sure if that shows how tough this league will be or if we all have no idea of how teams will play? [emoji848]
  6. 100k a year in wages and stipend for a flat/car for your top 3-4-5 players seems about right. I am absolutely sure there is no way we’re paying 500 a week to our top players. That’s approx 24k a year. Have you seen the motors some of these lads drive? They have families to provide for ffs. If I was Erskine I’d be pipe fitting again if I was on that wage. I would think young lads like Penrice and MacCarthy would be on roughly that. But Doolan, Erskine and those on transfer list at moment are ranged between 60-100k a year total including expenses like flat/car. The top 10 players from the team at very most. The squad players are 24-60k. So 500-2k a week. Many of you can laugh but let’s try to be realistic for the 21st Century. Mortgages need to be paid. If Frans is on 10k a week in championship which I seriously doubt that’s nearly 500k a year. Not a chance! I don’t care if they made millions from Armstrong. That’s a dreadful decision. And I like Freddy. The boys not on the verge of the Belgian national side. County and ICT due to their geography tend to pay 10-20% more to entice the players up north. Living around Ross-shire is lovely but mid-Feb when cabin fever is at peak they need to pay out the cash. I’d like someone to prove me wrong? Happy to debate and be shown so. When you look at the numbers on the annual world wages listing, which we are near the bottom for Soccer and Celtic are paying 10-30k a week which is 10-15x us. The above makes sense.
  7. I would think they are on somewhere between 2-3k a week. If we can off load them all that frees up potentially 8-10k a week which would go a mile in the championship. To give Frans 7k a week is the reason why United have debt issues. That’s sevco style crazy to pay a player that in tier 2 of Scotland. There is no way we could offer that finishing top 6 in Premiership.
  8. The footage on Jagzone shows a very mobile Brannigan. Hopefully good news indeed. I hope he’s completely injury free and he gets through this preseason. Be great to have Banzo of old back! Here’s hoping.
  9. McGinty seems like a confident lad in the Jagzone interview. We need vocal and he seems to be that. He’s got plenty of experience bouncing around the English lower leagues which to be fair could be a good thing. I see the opposite opinion but let’s see what he brings. I’m glad Alan is building from the back. Hopefully this week we see a couple more bodies come in. [emoji1303]
  10. Some of the social media comments are just absolutely brutal. This lovely nugget take from Thistle’s FB page. I mean this one doesn’t even make any sense. And who ‘buys a suit from Tesco’? ????
  11. I don’t remember him being stellar. He was good but nothing more than that. An extremely likable fellow though so he was liked by faithful. I’ll throw this out but I think OWare, Barton and Keown are better players on their days. But I would think we’re going to be bringing in at very least two more centre halves. I can’t see Keown or Barton staying and I can’t see us competing through season with just two in that position. No new kit, only two bodies in. But I believe next 2-3 weeks will be busy. Excited to hear about the rumours and names coming in!
  12. Certainly not upset. Above post through some poor humor just saying does it really have to be plastered over social media? I think we all agree the overwhelming surge of fans getting crazy about the lack of players in the door is more interesting. [emoji1303]
  13. Lol. Yeah I saw that. Ping pong ???? How any business feels it necessary to publish their ability to slack off is beyond me. We’re not Google or Amazon. Especially after the year we’ve just had. I’m all for some down time and banter through the fun or competitive indoor sports but you don’t have to throw it out on social media. We’ve got new kit to release, players to sign and I’d hope some new ideas and creative ways to get punters through the turnstiles to deal with. When’s the air hockey table being delivered? Maybe their spending that sell on cash we got for Jack Hendry? [emoji6]...wait a minute.
  14. Good signing. He’s got plenty of experience at top Scottish clubs. Could be a nice leader for the youth. He’s won 2 challenge cups and a league cup so maybe just maybe....nah sorry I’m being stupid! [emoji57]
  15. P&B turning into WAT for sure. First off the club only 2 weeks ago let go of 60-70% of the players. What do you want the club to do in two weeks? I think many are jumping to conclusions and how do you know if last season will linger? You can’t make any assertion until he season kicks off. Boggling statements. It certainly will linger if you all keep harping in about it! I mean ffs give the club a chance to execute and be a little patient. We kept our loyal die in the wool players, we have a trio of young players that will be starters next year and you’ll probably see 8-10 new players in the next 5-7 weeks. Not to mention we lost our GM who assisted in signings and have had to move people around. I think the club / board have done what’s expected once they decided to keep Archie and management team. Little problem at this point. Seems to me there is a lot of negative speculation with really very little to back it up. Let’s wait and see and enjoy a little time off. World Cup coming up. By the time we see that through and we get some summer holidays in I’m sure we’ll have a different discussion. If nothing moves and we’re in middle to end of July then maybe it’s time to get nervous. But not at this point.
  16. I liked Freddie but I agree with this. Everyone needs to relax and trust that the players Archie and the board are after we can get. If we don’t sign him there is a reason why and I have faith in that. Let’s see what happens in next couple of weeks. I have a feeling a couple of new bodies will be coming in.
  17. I agree. Whilst with us he gave his all. He’ll do the same for this new employer. And so on and so forth just as we do in our jobs. He was a very good professional and was one of the fittest guys we had on the books. He didn’t develop season on season as we’d have wanted and so this year underperformed but so did most of the squad. Good luck to him I say. Time to look forward to the 8-10 new bodies Archie has to sign in the next month. [emoji51]
  18. I believe we need to get a few more physical players in the team and a captain that would be unabashedly vocal. We lacked that this past season as whilst I adore Erksine and Doolz they are not your "in yer face" type of players. I am certainly not advocating for Paton but I think a center midfielder with some bottle and experience would go a long way for us. Couple that with another at CB to partner Tam 2, with Tam 1 between the sticks and I think we'll have a really nice spine to the team. Championship we'll need some more hard nosed players in the squad.
  19. How sad and pathetic must you be to try and take the piss out of a team that was as shit as you were all year? I’d be careful with the trolling as more than likely Accies time is coming. We may very well see each other again soon so be careful with the smack talk. Cheerio for now but we’ll be back.
