  1. Taylor, Farid and Loy couldn't have been on silly money and we'd take any of those three in an instance. It just shows you that the players are out their if you've got the contacts and are willing to put the effort in to uncover them. So far Pressley and Holt seem way ahead of Houston on this front and I was no big fan of either of them.

  2. The same Jordan white that scored more than any Falkirk player last season in a team battling relegation? Surely not??

Yip the guys right up there with Morgan and Graham as one of the worst strikers ever to wear the navy blue. Was also woeful against us in the games he played last season. Who can forget his comical miss at Westfield when again the majority on this thread probably could've scored. I think about 8 of his 11 league goals came against Cowdenbeath, Dumbarton and Alloa which is about his level to be honest.

  3. This anti Houston bile is getting a bit tiring. Ok he did not win us the Scottish Cup or get us promoted but was it hatband last season? We have a good squad and should only be signing better than we have. A striker with pace would be good. The people who slate him for not signing players are often the same ones who slate him for not developing youth. We can either bring players in and hold back youth development or play youths and take a chance without experience. Some want both

If he can't sign players better than Smith and Cooper then we're really going to be in bother. Last year we struggled badly at times with some awful performances against the dregs of the league as we struggled to draws and defeats from the likes of Cowdenbeath, Dumbarton and Livingston.. Now some people seem to expect us to suddenly become a good side overnight simply by changing the goalie and replacing Loy with McHugh. I don't expect us to sign messi but surely we could sign a few decent players instead of the utter dross that Houston has signed in the main so far. 3 or 4 decent signings and there's no reason why we couldn't give hibs a run for the money.

  4. Queens have lost nearly 3/4 of a team, Holt, Durnan, Reilly, Carmichael, Clark, Burns, Mitchell,McKenna, off the top of my head i'm sure there was one or two more.

Yes and have brought in a number of replacements. No sign of Fowler hanging on for weeks waiting on players signing before getting told to do one. He didn't take up the reins at Queens till last Sept/October and still managed to do a better job in the league than Houston mind you.

  5. At the moment we're heavily relying on Smith or Cooper or both suddenly turning into decent players to give us a chance this season. There's no gurantee either of them will considering there was no improvement in either from the beginning to end of last year. We've known since February that we've needed a replacement for Loy which should've given us a start on the likes of queens who've only lost the likes of Reilly during the close season and yet we're still scraping about now like the rest of them.

  6. First games a week on sat and yet we've still not signed a front line striker to replace Loy. We've had only two players on trial one of whom we all knew was finished and yet Houston still took him to Ireland. We now risk getting players in on the eve of the season who need match fitness and a time to bed into the team. I can't believe that of all the players available at the moment up here and down south Heffernan was our best option of a trial alongside McHugh. Even the likes of Alloa are casting their net wider to pick up players than we are. If he wouldn't sign Heffernan as his legs have gone then Miller I'm afraid is in exactly the same boat.

  7. Of the 88 appearances the vast majority were as a sub. I doubt hes played 90 mins very often as hes only started about 20 games all told. Plagued with injuries mund you which stopped him appearing at all for partick in another proposed loan move. Needs to be given a chance to settle so hopefully we'll sign someone whose a bit more like the finished article to take the pressure off him.

  8. But these new signings should be in for pre season training and then the friendly matches. We shouldn't be scraping around on the eve of the season looking for a first choice striker. At the end of the day we aren't learning from previous mistakes where bad starts to the season over the last two campaigns have cost us.

  9. He needs to be given a chance and I believe he will do well.

I think he'll do well too but its too much to ask for him to replace loy from day 1 this season. We badly need a striker and another couple in asap or we'll start with a weaker team than we finished last season with. Its not going to be easy to get quality in at this late stage though and thats the managers fault.
  10. McHugh's 24 and made his debut for Motherwell a number of years ago.

He started 14 games in total in his 8 seasons at Motherwell plus a handfull for Queens and Airdrie. Compare that to Loy who had far more experience of first team football when he arrived. McHugh may be 24 but he's played far less football than the likes of Sibbald whose what 20.

  11. Loy was an experienced striker that had played at a half decent level before signing for us. I still don't think he was as good a striker as Taylor but he was a decent player who will be hard to replace. McHugh is a young striker still learning his trade. I reckon he'll be a decent signing in the long run but its a bit much to ask for him to be as good as Loy has been straight away. It just seems to me that we are losing our best players and replacing them with progressively inferior players. For the likes of McGovern we got McDonald, and now a loanee from Aberdeen. Taylor was replaced by Loy and god knows who will replace him. Where once we had Higginbottom we now have the likes of Smith or Cooper. I don't see Kerr or Taiwo as being as good as Miller was either. Our standards are falling every year and we're getting further and further away from where we should be.

  12. For a start we still haven't replaced Loy with anywhere near the same standard of player in my opinion. McHugh Would've been a decent backup for him and Baird last season but nothing more. Funnily enough last season McHugh went on loan to Airdrie whilst Houston signed Morgan. If we can get a decent replacement for Loy in then we'll be back to where left off last season. However that being in mind we want to do far better than scrape into 4th surely. The likes of Smith and Cooper are nowhere near good enough and it remains to be seen whether McCracken will last out another full season. Add to that the fact that Sibbald is the only real creative player we have and any injury to him would be a disaster and I'd say 3 or 4 more players are needed at least to give us a decent chance of competing.

  13. Will be interesting to see who we do eventually end up signing. Whilst I agree that we should be doing more than signing up the usual suspects that are floating about our previous title winning teams have been mainly filled with players that know what this league is all about through previous experience of playing in it. It's disappointing therefore to see most of the decent players in the league having already been cherry picked by other clubs both in our league and above.

  14. No chance or Slater of Kiltie being released unfortunately. I'd take both at Falkirk especially Slater whose one of the top young prospects in the Premier. Eremenko would be great for any championship side. I see him as a kind of Stainrod type player who would really entertain at this level. However, I can't see him dropping down a league and note that Kenny Shiels is looking at taking him to Thailand with him. Pascali is another decent player but is leaving Killie due to them cutting his wages. I doubt anyone at our level could afford him therefore Hibs, Sevco apart.

  15. He'd be replacing Gary Miller as second choice RB I'd imagine

He was the latest defender we've got on loan from a top flight club who've turned out to be no better and in some ways worse than the players we already have. Marr, Perry and him and you'd be struggling to make a decent player out the three of them.
