  1. Will be interesting to see who we do eventually end up signing. Whilst I agree that we should be doing more than signing up the usual suspects that are floating about our previous title winning teams have been mainly filled with players that know what this league is all about through previous experience of playing in it. It's disappointing therefore to see most of the decent players in the league having already been cherry picked by other clubs both in our league and above.

  2. No chance or Slater of Kiltie being released unfortunately. I'd take both at Falkirk especially Slater whose one of the top young prospects in the Premier. Eremenko would be great for any championship side. I see him as a kind of Stainrod type player who would really entertain at this level. However, I can't see him dropping down a league and note that Kenny Shiels is looking at taking him to Thailand with him. Pascali is another decent player but is leaving Killie due to them cutting his wages. I doubt anyone at our level could afford him therefore Hibs, Sevco apart.

  3. He'd be replacing Gary Miller as second choice RB I'd imagine

He was the latest defender we've got on loan from a top flight club who've turned out to be no better and in some ways worse than the players we already have. Marr, Perry and him and you'd be struggling to make a decent player out the three of them.

  4. It was Stubbs saying that basically we didnae deserve to be in the final that got Houstons goat. He didnae have a problem with him saying they'd been unlucky etc. If Queens end up in the playoffs and it would need a miracle now for us to pip them then I doubt you'll get him spouting off that they dinnae deserve it and it should be us. Fowler and Queens have done a great job this season especially considering their budget etc and fully deserve to be in 4th. There's no reason why they cant go all the way either considering their previous results against Hibs and sevco. Only problem might be the number of hard games in a short space of time.

  5. 50/50 signings success are why we're still in this division. If we're ever going to get promoted the success rate has to be a whole lot better. The fact we keep signing shit players even after giving them a few weeks trial is even more worrying. There's absolutely no excuse for that. If we start using our budget more wisely we may have a chance of competing for a place in the top flight but we'll simply get further and further away from that if we continue to sign a dud for every ok signing. Out of say 8 signings at least 6 should be decent with perhaps 2 disappointments. It shouldnt be any more than that if the managers doing his job correctly.

  6. And yet, at the age of 34 he's currently the top scorer in the Championship and has spent much of the season keeping your new star striker on the bench.

Hopefully he'll continue to be "shit" for a year or two yet. ;)

Just shows you how much the standard has fallen in this league over the past few years. Between 2008 and 2012 he scored a massive 7 goals in 70 odd appearances.Never been impressed with him I'm afraid any time I've seen him at the numerous clubs hes been at. Bairds a player who's half decent at this level but nothing more. Will be nteresting to see how Loy does at a higher level , Unfortunately I think he'll do okay.

  7. Not too bothered about Loy leaving as I'm sure there will be a fair few strikers available come the summer. As someone else mentioned we've lost more effective players than Loy in the past few years and replaced near enough all of them. Don't get me wrong I would loved to have kept Loy, but he clearly wasn't interested as he's been offered a new deal at least twice in the past 8 months.

The problem is that our replacements are very rarely as good as the guys that go though and that has meant that the standard of the team has continued to fall away. We're nowhere near Hearts in the league and struggling for a playoff spot against a team we came 11 points ahead of last season for example.

  8. I don't have an issue with Dundee here to be honest its Loy I'm pretty pissed off with. Could have handled the whole thing a lot better. Don't say how much you love being at a club two mins before jumping ship elsewhere especially when the club is still fighting out for a playoff spot and a bash at promotion.

  9. Of course its well within his right and Dundees right to announce it but again its just very disappointing that he's done it at such an important part of the season. .A time when he should be concentrating his attention 100% on Falkirk but obviously that hasnt been the case. Its also well within my rights now to give him pelters from now until May for doing so and I won't be the only one.

Not surprisingly we've immediately put out a statement saying that Bairds signed an extension before any mention of Loy to try and soften the blow. Its no worked I'm afraid.

  10. Again I dont have so much of an issue with him moving on but do have an issue with the way hes carried it out. Its an important part of the season and the last thing we need is important players announcing their jumping ship. He must have known that by signing a pre contract Dundee would spout this to the press and that it is going to affect the atmosphere at the club no matter what is said. Very disappointed in him considering his words in the herald only a couple of weeks ago which now look like a load of tripe to be honest.

  11. Whilst I dont have an issue really with him moving on in the summer if we again fail to go up via the playoffs the way hes carried this out does leave a bad taste I'm afraid especially after telling the local rag only the other week how much he was enjoying his time at the club. We basically picked him up off the soccer scrapheap and gave him the chance to play week in week out. He could at least then in my opinion have given us the courtesy of waiting to see what happened by the summer before moving on to pastures new if he wanted. To announce hes buggering off elsewhere at an important part of the season stinks of disrespect when he should be concentrating 100% on getting us into a playoff spot. I'd have no issues now if Houstie wants to stick him on the bench till May to give someone else a try up front alongside baird as Loy for me is no longer a falkirk player and should be treated as such.

Whilst we have been lucky on the stiker front over the past few seasons its folly to think that will continue ad infinitum and the standard is dropping. I still think both Taylor and Farid were better strikers than Loy and if the well does dry up we're going to get nowhere nearer that elusive Premiership place.

  12. I'm not a fan of TFS either, although the addition of the third stand has made a big difference. An upgraded Brockville would have been preferable, but given top flight criteria at the time, the route taken was far more sensible and indeed, probably the only viable one. Palmerston has nothing like 6,000 seats - in fact it's got little more than half that. However, there is no longer any such thing as the SPL and its stadium criteria have disappeared too. The requirements now really just relate to safety. It's this that has enabled a little money to be spent on the away terracing, to bring it into use for the big teams who this season inhabit our division. Previously, there was little point in doing anything with that part of the ground until such time as building a seated area would have been affordable/necessary. In a way, our inertia on the stadium front (sensible in my view) was rooted enough to outlast the SPL and its damaging criteria. Promotion is obviously unlikely this season, but should it come any time soon, the upheaval and expense off the field that that's previously entailed, would no longer be necessary.

So if Queens got promoted would they add seating or just use the seating areas they've got already? I presume that although there is no longer a requirement for 6000 seats in the top flight standing is still currently a no-no.

  13. I agree with the too little but as for the too early you know full well why.

The difference with us and Hamilton unless I'm giving them far too much credit is they don't have to sell but choose to.

If FFC never had all the debt we've had for the past 5 years I'd be raging we sold a team that could easily have been top 6 Premiership by now.

I don't understand why folk are struggling to understand such an obvious point

Its a point that should make the majority of fans pretty pissed off to be honest. The club should never have got in that mess in the first place but due to terrible bod decisions on and off the park the very future of the club was put at stake. It has resulted in the best young talent produced at this club for many a year being sold off for peanuts and has seen us stagnate in the championship for 5 years even though this talent has been brought through! Its been a totally wasted opportunity and who knows whether we'll be able to bring through so many good young players in such a short period of time again.

  14. What have we done for the last 5 years but sell the family silver, too early and for too little! We could learn from Hamilton I believe.

I agree BPM. Lessons can certainly be learned from the Hamilton board at getting best value for money for their players both young and old. Getting over a million for Tony Andreu from a championship club is a brilliant piece of business when you look at the likes of Jay Fulton now starting for Swansea in the top flight having left us for a pittance. Its pretty obvious too that during their last period in the top flight they didnt lose the plot like our mob and actually put the future of the club at risk leaving them scrambling about selling players to the first bidder. Where Hamilton fall down a little is in getting players in to replace those leaving. Making silly bids for the likes of Loy isnt doing anything for their team.
