  1. I thought that the figures for Russian casualties that the Ukrainians were putting out must have been ridiculous overestimates for propaganda purposes, but now I wonder if they're actually pretty accurate. Even if they do eventually win, the Russian forces seem to have been led pretty incompetently.
  2. Incidentally, I hold this man entirely responsible for our season in 15/16 falling apart: It's 19th December and Aberdeen have just hammered Killie 4-0 at Rugby Park. We're exactly halfway through the season and we've moved to within a point of Celtic at the top of the league, having already beaten them once. The next evening, an injury to Simon Mignolet means that Adam Bogdan is making his league debut for Liverpool in front of new manager Jürgen Klopp. He has a complete nightmare and they lose 3-0 to Watford. He gets another chance a couple of weeks later and another howler means they're held to a draw by Exeter in the FA Cup. Klopp has seen enough and cancels Danny Ward's loan at Pittodrie, where he'd been absolutely brilliant. We're left with the useless Scott Brown in goal for the rest of the season and our title challenge comes crashing down around our ears.
  3. That's a fair point. For me though, it's more about how Celtic allowed their standards to slip without their partner pushing them on. Unfortunately they didn't slip enough.
  4. It does get overstated slightly how bad Celtic were under Delia. They only lost 4 games in each of his two seasons. We did have disastrous collapses but they tended to be after the title had already realistically gone. If it was going to happen, I think it did have to be when Rangers were out of the league.
  5. There always seems to be a great atmosphere at Forest whenever they're on TV.
  6. And a public healthcare system that no-one in the UK (other than very right wing Tories) could possibly accept.
  7. Trying to think of the last positive memory I have of the FA Cup as a Newcastle fan, and I reckon it was Patrick Kluivert scoring the winner against Chelsea 17 years ago
  8. They also don't sell the front row in any of the home stands for similar reasons.
  9. I don't really believe that there any keepers we could realistically afford who are as good at the fundamentals as Lewis was at his peak but can also play a bit.
  10. One of their defence lawyer's arguments was that it couldn't be criminal damage because they actually increased its value and the interest in it by chucking it in the river.
  11. To be fair, that was only the opinion of *checks notes* the Lord High Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.
  12. Fair enough, this is what I get for basing my opinion on 1 game and a few snippets of highlights. On McLennan, he's actually the player that reminds me most of Magennis: limited but big and quick. With the right coaching and the right loans I could see him becoming a decent centre forward.
  13. Obviously I only get to see a limited amount of live games plus sportscene, but whenever I've seen Samuels he's looked good. What's he done wrong exactly?
  14. After avoiding it for two years and on the day I was due my booster I finally caught it. Fast forward three days and it's the most ill I can ever remember being. Obviously not needing hospital means it's a mild case, but it's still absolutely shite. My wife got her booster just before Christmas and has a slight cough. Raging.
  15. I feel like there was a period a few years ago where sky kept putting these games on TV and they were all absolutely terrible. We're going to take the lead, have 75% possession and then lose 2-1.
  16. I wouldn't say I like any of them, but there are some who I think are serious people with at least some moral compass. In no particular order: Rory Stewart; Dominic Grieve; Ken Clarke; Tobias Ellwood; Tom Tugendhat. That's about it. Says a lot that most of them have been kicked out of the party. On the flip-side a massive chunk of their MPs are absolutely irredeemable arseholes with no redeeming features.
  17. Javid and Sunak have extremely different backgrounds to be fair.
  18. It's disgusting. We're also supposed to believe that the same US intelligence that couldn't forsee the collapse of the entire country's military and government is now able to accurately identify individual targets in a city that they've pulled out of. Just a pointless, murderous gesture to salve their pride. I still haven't got over reading at the start of July that the Americans abandoned their main remaining base at Bagram in the middle of the night without informing the Afghan Army commander that they were going. The first the Afghans knew about it was when all the power went out and people broke in to start looting. With friends like that eh. (Although it's no more humiliating than what the British army did in Basra)
  19. Is the problem not that they can't register anyone at all, as they thought the rules simply wouldn't apply to them?
  20. The 'English' were still living in Germany during the Roman settlement of Britain. Anyway, as you were.
  21. We're absolutely right to try to get the best value possible for Ferguson, but it does seem like this could be handled a bit better. No need to air our laundry in public, as it will be better for us in the long run if players know they can sign a contract, safe in the knowledge we'll negotiate sensibly when the time comes to move on. I really think we should be aiming for £5 million. Out of all the players we've lost/sold in the last decade, he's got the highest potential since Fraser IMO.
  22. My Mum died of cancer during my final year of uni. I got a phone call from my Dad that her condition had suddenly got much worse so could I come home. There was an essay deadline coming up the following week so I went to see the course supervisor to explain the situation and ask if I could have an extension. His response: "You already knew she was ill when the work was set, you should have been more organised."
