  1. No one is getting carried away. The mood pre-match last week was one of philosophical equivalence. No -one was expecting an instant miracle but that was precisely what materialised. It was, considering the form of the opponents, the best Sons performance I had seen in years. Jim Duffy was emphasising in the local press this week that the result and performance were pleasing but that there was much work to do and we all realise that I think. I don't think anyone is getting carried away but it's nice to celebrate an emphatic victory - the first in a long time.
  2. Just listening to Jim Duffy on Sportsound. What a well balanced and knowledgeable guy he is.
  3. Aitken ruled himself out of the Brechin job in the Sun today.
  4. I watch Sons TV much more than I watch BBC or indeed any TV.
  5. Maybe but if he's good enough to be performing well in League one then that's great. I'm impressed with his effort as much as anything.
  6. I remember posting last season about hearing Scott McDonald talking on the radio about the importance of pre-season. He said that it was almost impossible for a player to catch up if he missed pre-season for any reason. I suggested that this might be a reason for Beanie's form at the time. Everybody laughed and said Beanie was finished. I'm only just getting over the humiliation.......
  7. Am I the first to point out that soon after the resurrection of Sons Sorrow, a new manager is appointed and we win a game 4-0?
  8. I know Craig Brittain well. He has no interest in going into football management. Paddy has no league management experience. If commitment to DFC were a qualification for the job, then the P&B poster known as Ross Forbes would be the best shout IMHO. However it isn’t and we seem to have made the right choice.
  9. Same with old Bayview, place was falling apart but a proper football ground, unlike the soulless pish we play out of now It's amazing how people get nostalgic for rain pouring in through corrugated iron, toilets an inch deep in (soulful) pish and the place generally falling apart. In the soulless arena, I get a reasonably comfy seat, a toilet WITH a wash hand basin and towels, a pint before the game with a lounge to sit in before kick-off and a food servery that would have a fighting chance of passing an environmental inspection. The only thing I don't particularly like is the stand on the one side, but there is no denying it's big enough. `
  10. I’m hoping auld Dick puts the foot down on his way back from Stranraer. I’m chairing a dinner in Helensburgh tonight where he’s one of the speakers. I think he’ll need the navigating lights and a helicopter to be there on time!
  11. I have very happy memories of it but towards the end it was clear the only future for the club was a move. Regardless of team performance, the match day experience at the Rock is much better than the final ten years at Boghead IMHO.
  12. He may well become the Stevie Ross of goalkeeping. Or even the Drummond Mentiply of goalkeeping...(one appearance)
  13. Christian Nade on Kaye Adams programme tomorrow morning Radio Scotland. Starts at 9:00am, will be available on catch up.
  14. And just to show that new managers and long injury lists might not be a new phenomenon, this is from 1964.
  15. On the strips, one wag was heard to remark that not only did we look like Manchester United we were playing like Manchester United. In the 3-3 draw at Celtic Park did Celtic play in their green and black stripes?
  16. Click here for a history of Sons' kits over the years.
  17. Posted by someone on Facebook who has a very similar profile to someone here.
  18. We were 3-1 up AT halftime, after Celtic scored first. John Bourke headed against the bar from a corner early in the second half before Celtic salvaged the game. Hughie McLean was different class. I remember a few other things about this game 1) Sons wore a Manchester United style red top with white collar and trim 2) I think it was the Wallace's last game before departing for Coventry City.
  19. That was the first in a run of 3 consecutive 3-3 draws for us, against yourselves, Celtic away where we conceded very late on and Hibernian at home. I was at all of them! We also had a 3-3 league cup tie with Celtic at Boghead where Sons were3-1 up at half time.
  20. What a funny old world it is. Who could have imagined , even a few years ago, that Dumbarton FC would have a poet in residence? Far less one who would include the phrase “leaden avoirdupois” in a poem about a new manager. Stephen is a great lad and the poetry is brilliant. That phrase though, is a bit heavy [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
