  1. Sometimes we complain about the standard of football we watch. Have a swatch at this from 1958 when Boghead held 18,201 for the visit of Raith Rovers in the cup. Scott Gallacher can take comfort surely!
  2. Looks like messages speculating about the club's culpability on signing Danny Handling, beat the pleasure at taking a point at Tannadice about 6-1
  3. Nice to see us signing a couple of players. There will now follow a few days of optimistic posts. I feel that the previously, seemingly vitally important matter of entering the game via a turnstile instead of a door may now take a back seat until our next defeat. Bunch of tarts that you are!
  4. Whilst we shouldn't get carried away, two points from our first two is a decent return. Perspective on last week's point is provided by the result in the Renfrewshire derby today.
  5. I'm quite surprised that Brophy hasn't succeeded at Hamilton.
  6. I had completely forgotten about Gary McCutcheon. The thing about Fairley was that he took the club to third place in what is now League 1. With the resources at his disposal, that was a fine achievement. He and McGonnigal were a good managerial team. It's a shame that they didn't have longer at DFC and that their efforts without each other didn't amount to much. Having a look here it would appear that Steve Aitken would qualify for a gold watch if he's still here at the end of the season.
  7. Apparently four out of the last five DFC players to be sent off have been so by Charleston (Andy Galloway - Twitter)
  8. The crowd would be fewer than 200 if admission were free.
  9. Cost is a very small part of the problem, if it's a problem at all. If there were any evidence that cutting admission charges would increase support and income then it might be worth looking at. Cutting the prices on high demand products increases market share. On low demand products/services it makes very little difference.
  10. Where were YOU when the brains were handed out?
  11. Time lends enchantment. A screaming trickler.....
  12. Eddie Annand, Stevie Mallan (no, not that one) Michael Moore and Darren Gribben. Let's not forget Davie McCaig, the Barry Manilow lookalike who scored a 40 yard screamer at Glebe Park to virtually assure Sons of a Premier place in 1984.
  13. I like the strip. The right amount of tradition and innovation. Much better than the last one which was pretty underwhelming. Didn't we only have that one for one season?
  14. I don't know about anyone else but fitba' is a form of escapism for me. If that materialises in some speculation about the strip then fair enough. The road to hell has been done to death here. We now have to wait for the outcome of the planning application. I suppose we could wring our hands and brains going over everything that's already been said but to what end? There's discussion elsewhere about the Colts issue and FIFA will do what they'll do pretty much regardless of what's said on Pie and Bovril. I'll be very surprised if the strip is orange unless it is a fluorescent. publicity stunt. The hashtag could very well be a re-hash of the one I came up with myself at the time of the Third Division Championship win in 2009 and used in a way to mislead and tease, or take the pith. Keep your eyes peeled. Pip pip!
  15. Outside left was just another name for a left winger - ergo Jimmy Johnstone was an outside right. The description I liked for players back then was for mavericks like Jim Baxter or Tommy Gemmell. They would often be described as having a 'roving commission' - In other words they (rather brilliantly) did what they wanted. Davie Wilson was perhaps past his best when he arrived at Boghead from Dundee United but he still made a great contribution to our promotion season 1971-72 and then as assistant manager and manager. An early example of a player who felt entitled to go down in the box!
  16. SIGNING NEWS: Midfielder David Wilson is manager @stevie_aitken latest addition to his #newseason squad. dumbartonfootballclub.com/news/?mode=vie…
  17. Northern Son lives in Ellon north of Aberdeen, so a good distance from Brechin. I'm pretty sure he'll be at the Brechin v Sons games this season though.
  18. Tommy Hughes takes lots of photos at Glasgow City. (Insert funny comment here!)
