  1. Also.... Film of Dumbarton v Raith Rovers March 1957. Boghead's biggest crowd 18,002 and also.....
  2. Has anyone ever seen Andy Broon and Robert Thomson in the same room?
  3. For those of you who think things are pretty dire, and with a pre Christmas game against Falkirk looming, lets take a look back at happier times.....oh wait....
  4. Does anyone know if Brabco are involved in this?
  5. Seeing it in inverted commas like that, it's like a cross between Donnybrook and Brigadoon....
  6. It seems like Aitken is a 'dead man walking'. For fun only, who do you think would be within DFC's budget and would do a better job? Obviously only out of work guys as DFC wouldn't be paying compensation. Take your pick.
  7. I have already compared his popularity amongst the support to that of Paul Martin. However, Martin was operating a division lower than Aitken is.
  8. I only used Houston as an example. There are plenty more and most are cliche ridden. To be fair
  9. On Steve Aitken, he's not the only manager whose post match interviews follow a pattern. For example, Peter Houston in defeat will always blame the ref, the wind, the pitch or some other peripheral agency for any disappointing result. Unless there's a certainty of bringing in somebody better, it might be better to sit tight with Aitken. As that would seem to be the deal anyway with the club's financial position, it looks like he gets the leeway to prove he can keep us up. I'm not actually sure if the club's habit of sacking managers every 18 months has helped much over the last 45 years anyway. As I said on the Hibs match thread, the irony could be that it might be worth keeping Aitken if we go down with the converse maybe being the case if he pulls the rabbit from the hat.
  10. I took that photo of Gordon Lennon celebrating with fans and the third division trophy at Annan. Gordon's dad Alex is in the centre of the photo. His brother Scott is to the right.
  11. I hadn't seen the interview. It's what newspapers do now isn't it? It was tagged on to an article about Hibs masquerading as a match preview.
  12. I've had the iron out on it. Good as new ;-)
  13. More recently there was this 5-0 home defeat to Montrose. I remember treating my father in law to hospitality that day - embarrassing!
  14. Pretty much agree, though of course we share a certain vintage. My biggest disappointments as a Sons fan were all back in the midsts of time. The Scottish cup semi final replay defeat from Hearts was probably the biggest, after a decent showing in the first game at 0-0. Had we beaten them we'd have qualified for the European Cup Winners Cup. The Spring cup semi final defeat by a Davie Cooper inspired Clydebank at Firhill was hard to take too. That 8-0 game with Celtic of course was a pisser of course - as was a 6-0 defeat at Ibrox in a league cup match. The first half was ok last night. I noticed though that the longer the game stayed at 0-0 the more agitated we looked. Bonnyrigg looked more composed as we lost the plot. Mind you, 8 points from our last five games. Won two, drawn two lost one...............
  15. To introduce a small note of optimism, we've got eight points from our last five games in the league. *Exit hurriedly - pursued by a bear*
  16. I've not known such unanimous disapproval amongst Sons fans for a manager since the last days of Paul Martin's reign. The first half wasn't great tonight but the second half was absolutely dire. Too many experienced pros looking inferior to their junior opposition. Bonnyrigg looked more determined. We looked as if we hadn't a clue as the second half progressed. Bonnyrigg must have gained confidence when they experienced the respect they were being afforded. Well done to them and fair play, they deserved their win. What now for the good ship Dumbarton? as Gare Clyde might have said.
  17. It's quite difficult to quote your post and reply on an iPad Simon, so I'll reply without the quotes. It's funny but a friend and I were recently speculating how many Sons fans read and contribute to P &B.it is probably a very small number - around 30 or so when you factor in double/treble IDs. As for local print media, widely read yes but I'll bet that you'd be lucky to get double figures on the number of fans likely to write letters in.
  18. I think Pie and Bovril and other social media are gradually replacing print media as a forum for discussing football. The problem with that, is that discussion remains amongst the committed (or 'should be committed') and isn't widened to the merely interested.
  19. Tax evasion is illegal. Tax avoidance is something that most self employed people and company directors employ accountants to do legally. The company that Wilson invested in was claiming allowances which were, er....disallowed. He's made a loss by speculating at the margins of illegality. No sympathy for him.
  20. I'm sure they'll look after you. I hope you enjoy the night (although I hope we do make it two in a row obviously)
