  1. What's the situation regarding Reilly if we did want to get him on loan. He's currently on loan to Dunfermline from Hearts and that would have to be terminated so can he come out on loan to another Club in the same season? FWIW and sorry to say but I doubt if he has a future back at Hearts anyway.
  2. Jason Statham. Can't explain it, I've never watched any of his films so can't blame his acting ability for my dislike. Danny Dire (not a spelling mistake) is another who I just can't watch.
  3. There's been 2 or 3 games when he's jumped to head the ball and landed heavily but managed to carry on for a while. Not meaning to widen the discussion but I'm not a fan of this tactic of the keeper playing high balls out to the wide men to flick on. Without having actual statistics I would hazard a guess that the success rate of building up a good attack from these flick-ons is very low. If the ball does not just fly straight out of the park, the opposing defender usually wins more than the winger. I know I'm not alone in my frustration at Robinson's wide kick-outs listening to others supporters around me.
  4. In pre-season friendlies and during our early season good run he looked a stand-out, taking men on, getting good crosses in and good in the air, plus he chipped in with a couple of goals. He looked to be a great acquisition. I think he picked up an injury which kept him out of the side for a couple of games and when he did come back he seemed to pick up the odd knock during games which meant he went off or struggled through games. Recently his appearances have been either from the bench or getting hooked after half-time. Whether it's because he may not be fully fit, we have a couple of players playing through injuries, or has just suffered a drop in form, he hasn't had the same impact recently as earlier in the season. The whole team has suffered a drop in form so he's not alone in that. Maybe our style of play has changed a bit during the season also and he's used more as a wide target man for our keeper's kick-outs rather than getting ball to feet to take men on. Our wide midfielders are also having to get back more to help out fullbacks which is extra work if you are not fully fit. Personally I like his attitude and hope he can regain the early season form.
  5. Support you local dealer is the lesson to be learned from this and you can inspect the gear when you buy it.
  6. Rjc-1988 writing about Darren Brownlee in QotS posts when it is actually Brownlie.
  7. I'm not quite in the relegation possibility camp just yet, although all the evidence probably goes against this thinking. It's still a bit early to be contemplating life in a lower division but for the sake of discussion could the Club sustain it's full time status. It definitely helped in our last promotion achievement and there are a couple of full time teams already in League 1, at least 1 of which will probably be promoted for next season though, so it could prove harder to bounce back up at the first attempt. Arguably we do not have as good a team as Magic had at his disposal which could also hinder a quick return. There's still a long way to go this season however and hopefully this discussion proves hypothetical. Fingers crossed.
  8. We signed Tapping and Hilson who both had recurring injury problems when they were signed so it's nothing new. Edit: D.D's post above just beat me to it.
  9. Well seen there's not much happening on the football front to discuss just now. About 4 pages dedicated to tit for tat posts about a moronic poster. That's probably more of a reason to avoid this site than RUSTY1111'S trolling.
  10. We're in danger of turning this into the RUSTY1111 Thread instead of the Queen of the South Thread. I think he can multi-quote but doesn't just to wind people up. Twattish behaviour I know, but it would be a pretty small number of posters on here if we banned all the wind-up merchants. Anyway, back to football talk and the question of loan players. Does it devalue a clubs achievement of winning games, Leagues and cups if they are relying on loan players, usually from Premier League clubs, to field a team and probably strengthen the team. Obviously the system is open to every club to use but it's probably the case that the bigger clubs can afford to attract the supposedly better quality of loan players when they already have a financial advantage over the smaller clubs enabling them to sign a better squad to start with. I'm not trying to pick on these "bigger" clubs, the systems there for them to use so they will. Even smaller teams who are struggling could sign a couple of loan players and possibly transform their season. As I say clubs rightly use the system to their advantage but is it a fair system, do we actually need a loan system or should clubs be made to stand or fall with the number and quality of players that they choose to sign for them?
  11. For older listeners, Ken Dodd Bob Monkhouse Chic Murray.
  12. Impatient b*****ds who overtake when vehicles are coming towards them and think they can cut in to the braking space you have left from the vehicle in front of you. Of course you let them in because you know that if there's an accident it will probably be others who will suffer whilst these twats drive on oblivious to everything around them.
  13. According to one of today's papers Rigg is out for the rest of the season.
  14. 14 for me, having started to attend Palmerston (not very regularly as a nipper) in George Farm's last season I probably saw all of them that played after that. Numbers 2, 8, 11, 14, 19 and 20 are the ones I ruled out. Hard, and not very fair, to pick a favourite but Mallan, Bryce, Thomson and Dobbie would contest the top four places but they all had/have different styles and strengths. As for the shirt debate, I have to confess that I'm not into buying replica tops but I liked the "Fiat" blue and yellow stripe, the black and red stripe from a few seasons back and the current home and away kits.
  15. The current goalkeeper/coaching set-up this season certainly doesn't seem as organised or professional on match days since Kenny Arthur moved on. At the pre-match warm up we had Robinson, Atkinson and 3rd choice Leighfield all involved which is fine but come half-time Atkinson is playing kickabout and passing with the other subs and Sports Scientist. Wouldn't it be better for our reserve keeper to do a proper goalkeeper warm-up at halftime helped by Leighfield, or when Leighfield is not there, one of the other subs could help out with a workout that benefits both keeper and other player. Maybe this is a small point but I doubt if any other team in the division doesn't have a specific routine for sub goalies at halftime, and at the very least it looks more professional.
  16. Agreed that some of the "young" players have not been consistent enough or appear to lack the necessary talent for this division but the senior players, especially in defence and centre midfield. are just as culpable for the current situation we find ourselves in. No doubt injuries have played a part in disrupting us having a settled team but that is just part of the problem, we are losing goals and games because of schoolboy defending and lack of concentration. We have actually, in my humble opinion, played quite well in some of the games we have lost but for whatever reason, despite creating plenty of chances, we struggled to score and that gives opponents confidence. Ayr Utd and Raith Rovers away are games that spring to mind that we could and should have got something out of on possession and chances, Albion Rovers in the Cup also. Even in the 5 - 0 pumping by Morton we had two or three early chances to go in front before it all went pear-shaped. The fact that in most games we are still creating chances probably gives a few of us some hope that a resurgence is just round the corner but we need to stop gifting easy goals and start doing the basics right. Hopefully the new Manager can get things sorted out but unfortunately it may be too soon to expect his influence to show this Saturday.
  17. I would think Brownlie would feel very hard done by if he was dropped just to let Higgins back in. A settled defence is about the most important part of the team I would say and Brownlie's displays have merited his continued inclusion. In my view only a couple of really poor displays by Brownlie, (or Dowie), or injury, or a change in formation would be Higgins' way back into the starting line-up and he'll possibly just have to be patient. Jacobs is maybe another player who has surprised a few this season and to my mind deserves his run in the team. He's maybe not a stand-out player but he works his socks off for the full 90 minutes. Fowler tended to chop and change the team depending on the opposition and Jacobs was hardly given a decent run plus he was asked to play in different positions when cover was needed.
  18. Surprising that a Manager of Hartley's reputation doesn't have adequate cover for every position and has no plans to sign cover for a position that you say the present incumbent, although being regular 1st choice, has not been at his best. Sometimes a player's personal situation can affect performances, not saying this is the actual case in this instance, and you have to do what is best for the player and the team. Anyway time will tell if there is any truth in the rumours and we may be reading too much into them. He would still be a good addition to our squad however if it did come about.
  19. If we are dealing in rumours then it's being claimed that the goss on the street suggests that Holt's personal circumstances would favour a move nearer to the Town and also rumours that his (football) relationship with his Manager is not the best. All rumours of course. Position wise, Holt I would say is probably the most left-sided of the names being bandied about and that appears to be the position that a lot of fans think needs strengthening. Of the players who have left recently, and talking about the playing side only, probably Danny Carmichael's situation would suggest he is the most obvious candidate to be sent out on loan but I'm sure he has stated that he wants to stay ay Hibs, get fit and impress the new Manager. It would be a decent move for us if he was loaned out to us however.
  20. I mentioned Holt earlier, are you confirming that this is the player the Club is in talks about?
  21. IIRC the thread was named "Scarves" but I wouldn't have the faintest idea what it was about. If you don't want to get in touch with him MB how will you know where to send these Arabic scarves?
  22. I think 4th is realistically a bit beyond us tbh, which I would happily be proved wrong on, even finishing 5th I would consider to be very decent. I just hope we can do a bit better than last season's final position with a decent run in the Cups for a bit of added interest. Although it's still a bit early to be judging teams as most are still at the experimental stage I think Saturday's game against Partick Thistle will give a better indication of strengths and weaknesses that need to be addressed.
  23. Yes, definitely double standards employed in major European and World Competitions than in domestic competitions and we're supposed to be working from the same Rule Book. Swerving slightly away from that issue, at last night's game an Airdrie player kicked the ball out for a throw-in to stop play because one of his team-mates' boot had come off. Surely this should only happen if a player is injured or something serious happens where the play should be stopped quickly, and you shouldn't expect to get the ball played back to you, which in this instance, the Queens player did. If it's not played out because of an injury or serious matter then I think you are within your rights to keep possession.
  24. Just wondered if a player misses a game when he's picked up 2 bookings in different games as in the Euros. It will be interesting to see how referees react to goal celebrations when players run into the crowd after some of the celebrations witnessed at the Euros which went unpunished. I think scorers only got booked there if they removed their top. Serious double standards if our referees adopt a stricter stance.
