    Graham Speirs wrote a very good wee article about John McGovern never getting capped !! IIRC McNaught s Scottish Villa E. Cup winning central defensive partner ( Evans ? ) was capped against N.Z. and it was not a success !

    There are clips on YT of famous players performances in big games. There is one of Denis Law v. West Germany at Hampden in 1969 which is rather good. Unfortunately there is also one of Franz B. in the return game in West Germany. ( I believe the back 4 for this game was Greig McNeil McKinnon and Gemmill ) They might not have covered themselves in glory defending set pieces

    I did not know this , I thought the SFA had '' banned '' him. I am not sure the last few minutes would have been any good. Equally sad was the #### up for their goal !

    It has to be said the 1974 , and even the 1978 , squads were pretty good In 1978 we were ####ed after the Willie Johnstone affair , but it MIGHT have been going wrong before then !

    Was that Jock Stein's fault tho' ? ( or Miller and the other one v. the USSR ) He chose the team against N.Z. but IIRC the Aston Villa centre back had recently won a European Cup winners medal

    The list was a bit of a joke. John White was absent , and maybe Edwin Gray as well Andy Robertson is actually in Johnny Giles best ever Liverpool 11 along with the other suspects so his high place has expert support I was pleasantly surprised by our friend Mike English choosing a 3 - 5 - 2 formation but not four of his choices

    I have always known that if a European footballer invented the so called '' Cruyff '' turn he would be Scottish , and not that Dutch imposter. Where I might be wrong is thinking it would be Mr. Baxter I have now seen evidence that Peter Lorimer might be the man. I will endeavour to attach the relevant clip

    At least John Collins played some of his football on the continent It increased his ( footballing ) outlook on life , and made him a better player
