If we put our best team out each week, then we will finish in the top half. I am not convinced that Cove will find it that easy, even though they are hot favourites at the bookies. It's early days, but Stenny and Brechin look like they will struggle. I don't think Stirling and QP are looking too great either.

From what I’ve seen QP are looking a lot better than last season. Think we’ll surprise a few this season

  2. Fantastic performance both defensively and offensively. For the amount of debutants we had, everyone seemed to know each other’s game and played some cracking stuff at times. Man of the match for me was Nicky Jamieson, was an absolute rock and was brilliant on the ball. Willie Muir was outstanding aswell, delighted he’s returned

We're in statue territory if Roberts leads us to the playoffs. We're a very young and inexperienced side. It's hard to couple that with consistency. It's not readily available, but really feel we could do with a couple of veterans who've been over the course.

Major health warnings on pre-season and League Cup results and performances in relation to the league as well. Don't think we'll truly know what level we're at until we've played a couple of league games.

I understand what you mean, but I don’t think making the playoffs is essentially doing the unthinkable. No Clyde or Peterhead this season and no outright favourite on paper I’d say. We made the playoff final in 14/15 when we recruited exclusively from the juniors, signing players with next to no senior experience and everyone (including myself) tipped us to finish bottom. Always achievable in my eyes and I’d imagine that’ll be the aim

Again, I could be completely wrong and we end up near the bottom or mid table obscurity. Like you said, you can’t judge until a few league games in.

  4. 1. Edinburgh

    2. Annan

    3. Cove

    4. QP

    5. Brechin

    6. Elgin

    7. Stirling

    8. Stenhousemuir

    9. Cowdenbeath

    10. Albion Rovers

Hard to judge obviously when teams are still in the middle of recruiting players, so I could be completely wrong. Been pleasantly surprised by the quality of additions brought in by Roberts and from what I’ve seen, we might surprise a few people

    Did Reagan get on?

Yeah he came on midway through the second half, didn’t have much to do but really looking forward to seeing him play in the league once he turns 16

Only downside from the game was Gibson getting injured within the first couple of minutes and by the way he was walking, I’d imagine he’ll be a doubt for next week. One of the subs picked up a pretty bad injury as he won the second penalty. No idea who he was

I kind of expected most of them; Roberts, Hart etc., surprised at Euan East and McKernon, but the one I find hard to live with is McLean to Annan. If it was indeed for a bit of cash, I would have thought a better move all round would be up a division.

    ....and counting?

Players like Summers are training with Dumbarton currently so he’s not a confirmed departure yet

DC hasn't played real competitive football for ages and is still working on his fitness. He wasn't on the bench last night but was training. Think he will be making his comeback eventually in the Strollers.  Muir should start the season as number 1 but to have two quality and experienced keepers competing for the jersey and pushing each other on in training is a huge bonus

I thought we were the better side last night but Ayr took two of their few chances and we missed some good ones

Muir was unlucky not to save their second which was a one on one.

Big centre half Little from Largs did well as did the left back Clark (from Kirky Rob Roy?)

No 11, Purdue from Morton, really impressed me

The striker from Kilsyth puts himself about. He missed a  great chance, as did Moore when he came on

Alfredo Agyeman - ex-Motherwell striker – came on and looked quite tricky. Had a couple of decent runs

Thompson from our youths is only 15 but he looks a find. He apparently can't play in any of the competitive matches until he turns 16 next month

I think we will definitely need more experience, and I think the midfield needs beefed up. Hopefully more signings to follow. Hard to judge things until the real stuff starts

15 years old wow. He looked terrific and didn’t get bullied at all

Incidentally, it should also be noted that we've just lost Michael Ruth (Aberdeen) , Stephen Bradley (Hibs) and Josh Black (Ross County) from the youth system and we'll be getting next to nothing in return.

Shame we’ve lost Bradley, liked the look of him during his cameo appearances in the first team and by the sounds of it, he was outstanding in the youths

A better chance of league survival. Our geographic location puts us in an immediately decent position in comparison to the likes of a Stranraer or an Annan. Heard from a very good source tonight that a popular ex-QP player was on his way back to Hampden until the lure of a signing on fee from a junior club changed his mind.

I only see risk in not having a crack at semi-pro. For me, relegation is practically inevitable in the relatively near future if we allow ourselves to ignore the changing environment around us. I wish it wasn't happening, but it is. If we go down as an amateur club, it's likely that we'll even struggle to compete at Lowland League level. Then what?

Who was the rumoured ex QP player ?

Lost 2-0 to a strong Ayr United team at Lesser. Encouraging display though with some of the new players looking promising particularly on the wings.

    Starting team was 3421

    Muir

    Magee Gibson Little (largs)

    Grant Mcgrory Thompson( youth) Clark

    Galt Purdew (Morton)

    Kouider-Aissa (Kilsyth)

Moore , Mortimer, Martin among those who came off the bench in the second half. For a first outing i was pretty encouraged but hopefully we can add an experienced centre midfielder before the real stuff starts.

Was really impressed by the team considering it was our first game. Purdew and Thompson in particular looking very good additions. Liked the look of the striker that came on as a sub called Alfie, strong and skilful on the ball.

Salim Kouider-Aïssa - ex Stenny, QOS and Beanos where he under-achieved. Hope the three years with the juniors has him ready to finally make the step-up.

40 goals in 38 games for Kilsyth over the season. Fantastic record, however we’ve seen before from guys like Aidan Malone and Ross McPherson who were prolific in junior football that it doesn’t always follow a similar path in the seniors. Fingers crossed he produces the goods

The small guy in the Mercurials in former Stenhousemuir and Queen's Park left-back Ciaran Summers. Would be quite happy with him.

He’s an alright full back. Decent enough going forward but quite suspect defensively. Too many goals went down his side due to not being able to stop a cross. If he’s away to Dumbarton, i won’t be too fussed

I don't doubt we've increased our budget (attempting to sign Shane Sutherland on loan from Peterhead, for example) but I reckon the management team just hasn't been able to land a single target and have had to turn to players like Jamie McKernon and Scott McLaughlin instead. It's so disappointing when you're talking to guys like Robert Thomson but have to sign up jobbers from the Lowland League instead.

I wouldn’t underestimate the signing of Jamie Mckernon. He’s a cracking player who was arguably our best player alongside Ryan Mcgeever when we finished 6th in league 1 a couple years back. Hasn’t quite worked as well during his 2nd spell due to being forced to play at centre back for half a season as a result of our horrendous injury crisis in defence. Stenny have got a very good player at this level

  14. What are QP getting with Salim? Noticed that his goal scoring record is unbelievable this season but we’ve brought prolific strikers in before from the juniors in Ross McPherson and Aidan Malone who couldn’t hack it. Do youse think salim will be good for senior football?

Hearing Maclean is away as well.  Others considering leaving if right calibre of player not brought in by Mark.

So we have Gibson, Summers, Mortimer, Magee, Mcgrory, Gow, Moore and Gault left from last year.

Jeezo that does not sound very promising. Anything on Gerry?
