  1. Same old mistakes at the back costing us again first half. If we’re to win any games, it seems like we’ll need to score 2 or 3 goals minimum which simply isn’t sustainable over a season. The 2nd goal was utterly appalling and just summed up our entire defensive woes

Subs made a big difference and the introduction of Ben McPherson gave us a lot more power and pace down the right side which was resulting in overloads and loads of 2v1 scenarios. The lack of movement in the box is still frustrating but the crosses are certainly improving

Need to be so much better defensively but it’ll do the players the world of good knowing they’re capable of coming back from 2 goals down away from home to snatch a point. They could of easily lost their heads and conceded another 2 or 3

Delighted to see Paton score yet again. Some comments about his overall performance this season have been fairly harsh in recent weeks but yet again he’s providing the goods. The guy is a proper goalscorer. Would like to see a wee bit more off the ball but I don’t care so long as he’s hitting the ball in the net

We’re nowhere near perfect but it’s slowly getting there in some aspects

  2. For the first time in a while, I’m actually looking forward to the match. It still feels like 5 years since we last won a match in the league but slowly but surely there’s been signs of improvement the last couple weeks and we look much more like a competent championship side compared to 3/4 weeks ago. Still look wildly suspect defensively be we’re not as open as we have been previously

The Ayr match at Hampden was probably one of the worst defensive performances I’ve seen in my lifetime from a QP side and that includes the amateur era. Horrifying amount of self inflicted errors which Ayr capitalised very well on

The thistle performance on Friday was excellent but it means nothing if we can’t back it up. We have to now consistently play like that and try our best to not get dragged into the bottom 2 throughout the season

To be fair to the lad, he’s not got a mentor. The summer signings have left us top heavy with defenders. There’s nothing on the bench to gave him help or competition. I thought he looked knackered from about 70 mins yesterday.

Regards the “players around” comment he’s not had the best of service like yesterday but I would suggest yesterday was the first time he put himself in the middle of the six yard box. It takes two to tango. Previously his MO has been to pick up around the area and try a shot. That’s a midfielders role. He needs to trust his mates more, focus on scoring, work on his positioning and let the coach sort the errors elsewhere.

I mean if you’re going to ‘report’ something, at least get your facts right before acting like a smart arse. Assists have not only been in the cup only as I’m sure you forgot to ‘report’ his perfectly weighted low cross at home to Arbroath for Barry Hepburn’s opener and you forgot to ‘report’ his cross that got us off to a flyer away at Dundee United. If Ruari Paton was not present this season, we’d have precisely one win at this stage

You say you’re ‘reporting’ about Ruari Paton but clearly denying his impact in the league is classed as downplaying as stated above

Firstly Nicky Jamieson’s departure in 2020 was a Peter Grant masterplan. Simon Murray was then ultimate charlatan and now Paton is a greeting faced striker with nae pals? I do love the bold assumptions

4 against Elgin who are bottom of all the leagues and got pumped 6-0 by Jeanfield Swifts. 1 against Bala, Lowland league quality, maybe. 5 in the league, 1 a penalty.

    He’s 23. Prime of life.

Harsh I’d say. Seems like you’re trying to purposefully downplay his contributions this season which I find bizzare. You say five league goals like it’s a bad thing, we’ve only played one round of fixtures and he’s had almost zero service until last night. If he continues that form across the season he’ll be on 15/16 goals in the league which would be an extremely credible return at this level. 3 assists in the league also at this point, he’s a genuinely intelligent player once you get players around him

Quite clearly has some development in areas of his game and he’ll be frustrating at times (Queen of the south fans did mention he’ll miss a fair few sitters) but I’ve no real issues with him going forward. It’s a 3 year deal and he’ll only get better

If Queen's Park had Adeloye up front to finish their chances they'd probably have more than 3 points out of the last 8 games?

His finish last night was excellent, imo.

Adeloye would make zero difference, we could’ve had anyone up top this season and they’d be struggling

Granted Paton was horrendous with his missed chances last night, he’s still got 10 goals for us. He’s a more than capable striker at this level and at 22, he’ll only get better

The defence is our Achilles heel

  6. Shows you how effective legitimate depth is in this league. Raith and Dundee United have it in abundance and are unsurprisingly at the top. Thistle lose 2 or 3 from the first eleven and look absolute dug meat. When we begin to make subs, we look considerably worse in every aspect on a weekly basis

I’m convinced Stuart Mckinstry is a myth at this point

I still worry about Veldman's tactics.

I thought Paddy Garrett was playing well and got subbed.

I don't like to pick on the lad but Lucas McCormick just doesn't have it.......yet..... and inspires no confidence in his teammates. They don't pass him the ball.

Agreed on McCormack. The boy must obviously have something if he’s been drafted into the first team but he really struggled to do the basics when he came on and I can’t say he covered himself in glory against Falkirk either. Night and day between youth prospects and genuinely challenging for the first team comparing him and Reid

  8. Can’t believe we didn’t take the 3 points but that was the first time arguably this whole season where we’ve looked genuinely excellent for large periods. But ultimately it’s one hell of a missed opportunity to pick up 3 points. There won’t be a better opportunity all season to pick up 3 points off thistle. Ruari paton will have nightmares with the chances he’s passed up tonight. He’s been starved of service all season but tonight he could and quite simply should have had a hat trick, no excuses whatsoever for missing all 3 of them

Strong performances all across the board but special mention to Lewis Reid who looked absolute quality at the back for his first start in senior football. Looks ready made for the championship with his size and distribution. I’m certain he’ll become a regular for us as the season goes on

It was also Jack Turner’s best performance in a QP jersey by a country mile. He’s moved into a more advanced role the last couple weeks and providing the goods with the goals but equally his off the ball movement and link up play was superb. I’ve not been particularly wowed by the guy overall but there’s goals in him if used properly. 4/5 goals now ?

Despite the positives, we are still shooting ourselves in the foot. Unfortunately longridge was done on the right but no need to tug the guy back, just let him cross it. More annoyingly, what in the world happened for the thistle 2nd goal? Did Robson forget he was a left back in that moment? Nowhere to be seen which is a shame as I thought that was his best performance in a long time

Referee was very poor. I’m not one to yap on about refs but how thistle escaped some yellow cards is beyond me. Really poor stuff. It was like he was scared to show some authority once Brian Graham was around him

Play like this more often than not and we’ll give ourselves a fighting chance throughout the season

  9. I get football is a results based business and quite evidently for any manager, 2 points from 21 is quite clearly not sustainable for anyone but it’s the manner for me that’s really grained on me.

Like what’s been said already, we’ve been utterly lifeless in recent weeks and I see some posts saying that was so much better on Friday which is objectively true as we’ve been nothing short of a disgrace over the last wee while but even from Friday nights performance, I could see us getting cuffed by 2 or 3 goals from majority of sides in the league. Our only goal literally came from the only team outwith ourselves that try to play this type of football and we capitalised on an error.

It’s still a group of players on the pitch that should be achieving a mid table finish imo with a mixture of class performances and some not so class performances, not the current situation where I genuinely don’t know where the next win is coming from. I had bookmarked Airdrie and Morton as the games we have to try and take 3 points from and we’ve done neither

I would love Veldman to fix things or at the very least give me as a fan an indicator of the style of play progressing but there’s nothing there for me as of right now. Some Gardner speirs esque tactical decisions have really lost my hope in the guy. Charlie Fox up to against Falkirk reminded me of Barry Ferguson sticking 40 year old Marvin Andrews up top for the last 15 in the play off final back in 2016 to save their season

Having said all that’s 4-0 Qp on Saturday and Brian Graham in tears

  10. Better in some aspects tonight but it’s another week without a win and I struggle to see where we get one anytime soon. The lack of cutting edge is really frustrating and I can’t say I’m too enamoured by Paton’s body language at times. I get he’s been starved of service most of the season but sometimes I’m wanting that wee bit more from him

McPherson very positive tonight and more importantly looked solid defensively. He’s the Scotland under 21 right back so I’m confident he’ll be fine going forward in the season. Thought motm was Jack Spong who was fantastic to watch. Went a bit off the boil in recent weeks but looked his best self again, especially from a defensive perspective

Personally don’t agree with hooking tizzard when it’s so close to half time but I can see why it happened. That was the third time he gave the ball away completely unopposed. He’s a big raw guy with decent attributes but he simply needs to do much better if he’s to maintain or compete for any spot in the team. Big Reid looked totally fine when he came on so I’d be inclined to play him from the start next week

Need a lot more from Thomas, although the Airdrie right back was excellent in fairness

Hepburn- absolute stupidity. For a soft side, we sure do have a rotten disciplinary record this year.

Relegation battle looms. Opinion on Veldman remains the same. Out

  11. Haven’t even been particularly bad but that type of error happens every single week now. Just had to laugh when Tizzard made that error. Wasn’t his first error in that half. Can’t say it will do the guys morale any good subbing him 5 mins before half time

Longridge and McPherson been decent on the right but still too slow in the build up

Get Veldman out, we will simply get relegated playing this way. We’re not learning

Pre-season tends to be five or six weeks, I think, so I'd imagine we'll see McKinstry on the bench and maybe getting a run out in two or three weeks, ready to start games mid-November, which would make him available for about 2/3 of the season, so hardly a waste of time if he does a job.

In isolation, you’d hope Mckinstry will do a job particularly 2nd half of the season once he’s hopefully fully match sharp but the frustration more lies with the bigger picture and how we’ve dealt with recruitment overall. Do we have the time to wait for Mckinstry to be fully fit ? We’ve lost 6 out of our last 7 with no sign of improvement, we had the entirety of September to sign a couple players on loan in key areas that we’re quite clearly depleted in (striker position mainly) and yet the best we got was a player who I have no doubts is very talented and based on comments online, arguably shouldn’t be playing at this level but the reality is he’s miles off making a very weak bench that consists of children! In the current situation we’re in on the pitch, one solitary addition of someone who won’t play properly til mid November/early December is pretty shambolic from Beuker imo

  13. Why in the world have we signed Stuart Mckinstry btw? Just listened to Veldman’s preview and he stated he’s still weeks away from being involved. Was the guy injured for an extended period or did he just do sod all across the summer ? More logic to if he was signed to a 2 year deal but having a deal til the end of the season seems pretty pointless in hindsight

Can see why he’s ended up at us and not a team at a higher level

Another example of our shoddy recruitment across the summer. I despise the unofficial transfer ban Beuker has imposed by not signing guys over the age of 22

From the outside looking in that last line is insane to me considering the players you have at the top end of the park.

You’d think so but they’re not set up in any way to take advantage of their respective ability. It’s all possession and rarely take their man on and cross it in. That’s is direct instruction from the manager in his ‘philosophy’

Dom Thomas is tremendous on the left wing, nominated for championship poty last year playing there yet he’s playing in the middle of the park now doing zilch which is exactly what happened at Dunfermline also

Paton gets hung up to dry with his severe lack of service. Somehow he’s got 9 goals in all comps but shows how much more he could get if we actually played to his strengths

Feels like this is already quite a big game for both teams. I think Queen’s haven’t won in their last 6 or 7 games(?) so need a win from somewhere. We’ve made a better start to the season than probably anyone would have thought or hoped for and to potentially end the first quarter on 15 points would be fantastic. But while a loss wouldn’t be a disaster, this is the sort of game we need to win and if we don’t, that could be a worry.

Hope to see McStravick in from the start for this one. And hopefully we’ll have at least one of Ballantyne or ATS back. I’m sure he’ll come good but not sure I want Megwa up against any or all of Thomas/McKinstry/Hepburn at this stage.

This game could be any of a cracker/comedic clown show/tedious. Not really bothered which it is as long as Airdrie win. 2-0 Airdrie with prime #McCabeBall entertaining the millions (and millions) watching at home.

Don’t worry. All 3 will be a combination of not playing and/or played out of position by our fraudulent manager to make any meaningful impact on the game

Mckinstry has not made a match day squad yet due to lack of fitness so at best he’ll be on the bench.

Thomas is continually played out of position in attacking midfield when he’s arguably the best winger in the league when on song

We’re not winning this whatsoever. Never seen a side produce so many self inflicted errors. We’re not learning at all and continually getting worse.

    Airdrie home win

Maybe an embarrassment on tv could be enough to see Veldman bolt

  16. 9 minutes ago, Spider Rico said:

How many crosses did we slice straight out of play for a goal kick today. Dreadful.

Hepburn particularly very guilty of that.

Absolutely infuriating to see Thomas look much like the player he is once he got moved to the left. How can all fans recognise Thomas is best on the left yet Veldman continues to play him in the middle where he’s very underwhelming. No doubt it’ll be something stupid from their stats saying that there’s a 4.5% increase in chance creation

Granted it’s his first start in senior football but if young McCormack is deemed as the cream of the crop from young QP then we’re in trouble. No left foot, not an ounce of physicality and produced one of the worst finishes from a one on one chance in a long time

Would be tempted to see McLeish from the start next week. Very physical, seemed handy on the ball and knows where the goal is based on the young qp matches

  17. There’s got to come a point where Beuker has to consider veldman’s suitability for the role. I’m worried that he’ll not swallow his pride, given this was clearly a Beuker appointment and continue to pursue with the Dutch Laurie Ellis

Airdrie is going to determine the trajectory of the season for me. Lose that in the same manner and Veldman’s position becomes totally untenable for me

  18. That was absolutely utter tripe. Veldman playing a centre back up top for the last 20 minutes was an admission that he has absolutely no clue what he’s doing

Thomas in the middle, chucking in a youth player who looked miles out their depth and subbing your only credible outfield player at half time. Sign Mckinstry and simply not place him in the squad when we’re absolutely bogging

The individual mistakes are embarrassing, the build up play is simply not working and it’s a massive bore fest for everyone involved.

We almost scored one of the worst own goals I’ve ever witnessed and if it weren’t for Ferrie having the game of his life, we’d of lost by 3 or 4 goals comfortably

Get Veldman out before we embarrass ourselves and get relegated

  19. 26 minutes ago, an86 said:

    Looks a credible source

Aye there seems to be numerous links on Twitter the last hour suggesting that Beuker is a wanted man by Ajax.

Granted I haven’t been too enamoured by this years recruitment but this would be pretty disastrous if he patched the club mid season from a much wider perspective. The entire club is being shaped in his direction short term and long term. What’s the general consensus if he does indeed go? Does Veldman chuck it also?

  20. There’s your bottom two for the season. Absolutely mind numbing in every sense. No urgency, no creativity and just a sheer lack of confidence all over the pitch. A point does no favour for either side

McKenna out for months according to the guy himself which is a massive shame

Good idea to sign Mckinstry and simply not put him in a squad with zero confidence. Nice one 👍
