I don't think anybody is that naive to be honest,  but it sounds like the inner sanctum have dropped major hints of done deal signings, which so far haven't materialized which generate frustration amongst our support,   you are right we can sign from other leagues and countries......

Looking at our league QOS have signed a more than decent squad,  Falkirk signed well as well ,  we need at least 10 before our first match against Cowdenbeath you cannot play trialist in that tournament....

Nah 100 percent we need more players and it's frustrating. I'm just saying there will be news when there's news and hopefully it's all gonna be fine. I would rather we got players in to look at them first than sign anyone based on rep. Can't imagine our scout network is too big.

  2. I was worried a bit with the lack of signings but thinking about some of it logically , there will be players who the club will want to see in training , maybe even a friendly or two before signing.

Also the Scottish league isn't the only place to sign players from as someone mentioned. If we are getting players from down south or elsewhere they will be relocating,  and I'd imagine wouldn't come up until pre season starts, which is today.

The club are obviously trying to bring in players , but its never as simple as just bringing a player in cause we want them. Even with last year's good run it doesn't guarantee us first pick. Never understood the people on here who think we can just sign a player , anyone we want, and if the club don't get him then they didn't try. That's Falkirk level of arrogance...Still a pen today or early next week would be nice.

I'm not overly concerned if we don't hear anything in the next couple of days, but if we are still in this position a week or ten days from now I'll be getting quite twitchy.

    Aye same

Its boring but I do have a feeling there's been deals done but they've just not had folk in for the social media stuff , folk being away on holidays etc.

It will come good I'm sure!

I also wondered about a couple of other ex-Rangers players who are looking for clubs. Kirk Broadfoot or Chris Burke (albeit McCabe would have been in the youth team when Burke was playing). But how would they feel being managed by someone quite a few years younger than them.

Think younger managers are becoming a bit more common these days but maybe not as young as 29 , although some of the greatest in the game at the moment , Tuchel , Nagelsmann and Favre all started very young. Obviously I'm not saying there's a direct comparison in talent,  just that age isn't as big a factor as it use to be.

Cue someone coming on and having a go at me for saying Rhys Mccabe is the next Thomas Tuchel...

Probably because they're Championship quality players and you've been down here for a while. Similarly I wouldn't know many League 1 and 2 players. Can't really comment on Henderson tbh but Reilly, Wilson and Donaldson would get in to any side in this division and could all easily do a job in the Championship as well.

Watched a fair amount of championship games last year and can't say I remember any of them. May very well be great signings for ye but your squad went down without a whimper last year. And again as much I liked currie , put a cross near him and he's lost. I'm not not overly worried...

Do you think we are in danger of becoming he Full Time 'Backstop'. Unable to get a deal with clubs who are a week ahead of us in pre season and preparation..That to me isn't how a championship winning team works..

Not really no, people were saying the same thing last season and we had a great team on the park.

Out of the signings you mentioned the other big clubs have made you haven't really taken into account the whole picture. All of those clubs need a massive over haul of playing staff , 2 relegated clubs who went down without any real fight and a Falkirk who need more than 2 players. Also you look at QOS , they are signing players other teams have binned, one from us and 2 from a poor morton team.

Like I said I'm wanting signings as well but I'm not clambering for signings for the sake of it when we've kept a solid core together and managed to get rid of some players who just had no impact what so ever.

Like others have mentioned folk will  be away on holiday , there's also wee things like if players are going from part time to full time they may need to hand in notices etc.

Just don't get the "we're miles behind other teams" patter when the other teams are a riot. Or the lad a week or two ago saying our close season had been quiet when it had been 9 days...

  7. Other than currie and benidictus I've not really heard of the others.

I liked currie but to big him up is a bit far. He was OK,  never came off his line and cost us big goals in big games.

We've signed most of who we would keep from last season except easto  and the best RB in our league. Dying for more pen action like the rest of us but I'm not getting hysterical just yet

    Dunfermline..   Benedictus,    Raith

    Falkirk....   Henderson. ,  Arbroath,

    Donaldson,    Dunfermline

    QOS...... Wilson,    Reilly. Both Morton

And they signed a keeper from a club that lost 1 game in 23,  Has played in last 2 playoff finals and had second highest number of clean sheets in the season just past..

The names concerned have all signed from championship clubs and if you are honest would walk into our side, probably even last season's side...

That's how far the club has progressed from the Malone, Keegan days they were a struggle....

No white smoke coming from the Excelsior all quiet,    when is the Alan Go w Chinese Youth Academy getting unveiled,    Championship winning playears signed,  not to mention a qualified coach ( We can have more than one you know)..

Interesting couple of posts on the face book group ,  a member of the inner sanctum posted ( now taken d own). Pre season will be starting around the 18 th,  most teams are back around the 11th,  Some teams  are playing friendlies on the 21st and basically don't expect any news on signings etc for another fortnight or so...

last year we were on point signing wise Frizz signed last season on the 5th June, Dylan and McCabe were  the 11th June....

There is plenty time admittedly,  but the other 3 expected top teams budget wise seem to be getting a head start on us,

Who have the other 3 signed thats worth note ?

  9. I'd imagine it will follow the same pattern as most teams who lose a lot of players. We will probably get the core squad sorted by mid to late June once players have been released and been on holidays etc. Then after the league Cup first round when a lot of bigger teams play youth players and decide who to pap out on loan,  then we will get loan players in to fill out the squad. If we are still at 8 players come the second week of June then I'll panic...

Football as in life is all about learning from your mistakes and try not to repeat them......

Ian Murray was the beating heart  of the entire club, he moves on, if he was such an integral part of the entire operation why was he only on a one year deal and was allowed to run it down the same with our talisman Dylan Easton should his situation have been sorted long before season end ( should have been offered a 2 year deal when he signed same as Raith  gave him ironically) same situation with Leon McCann previously does great runs down his one year deal and signs a 3 year deal with Falkirk....

Onto this year much sought after Cammy Ballantyne signs to the seethe of Falkirk etc,  if he is only on a one year deal,   a number of clubs will be  watching his progress and could sign him in January on a PCA,  ..Groundhog day...

Moving forward does the club need to take more of a risk contract wise ( been burnt before with Conroy, Faria etc). ....if not we will struggle to unearth gems on a yearly basis and keep the club in a consistent top 4 position...

Interested in others thoughts on these matters...

The thing about tying down players to more than a year is that they have to accept those terms. It sometimes suits players to sign 1 year at a time. Nature of the game these days across the lower leagues.

Can also go catastrophically wrong to sign someone on a 2 year deal or more, johnathon page for example...or half the Falkirk team

Word to the wise, of all of the Falkirk posters he's the least worth a second of your time. I had to find out the hard way. Rational, well laid out stuff like yours is whistling in the fresh air above his napper.

Its also no less ridiculous as some of the Falkirk rumours we've seen this season. Every player in the top 2 leagues has been linked with them as well as half the managers in the UK. Pot/kettle here.

Anyway ignore they mad lads I'm positive there will be some good news for us before the weekend.

Got your buddy cb_diamondtits to thank for that one, been running his mouth off for weeks on our thread about how you lot were going up. Only fair we return a bit of his kindness. Honourable mention to airdrieman also who lorded the signing of Kouder Aissa at the start of the season, that also worked out fantastically.

Then ignore him on yours and feck off from ours ? Problem solved!
