Would definitely agree with this. When my wife went out on her own she got plenty of excellent help and advice from the gateway including basics like researching competition/potential market share for your chosen job in your area, to start up costs and helping find any grants or subsidies you might be entitled to to get you up and running. Basically help you cover all the bases to come to an informed decision before getting over excited and diving in. Well worth chatting with them.

My previous job was a kinda dream job in terms of work/life balance and enjoyment. Mon-Fri, 07.00 - 16.30 with workmates who included a couple of lifelong friends and nothing too taxing to be done. A really good working environment, just a pity the pay was shit. My current post involves being back on shift work and can be a lot more stressful when things go tits up, but the flip side is that the wages and pension etc are pretty decent. A long weekend every 3rd week helps to negate the shift element and, barring any instances of health issues that could affect my ability to do the job or making a complete James Hunt of it, I'd like to think I will see my working days out here. The dream would be somewhere in the middle of the two.

I don't know if you're trying to defend him here/semi-absolve him or not (apologies if not but it's coming across that way), but who sent them is fairly immaterial. He is accountable for typing some of them, and also reading, condoning and playing along with the others. A man in his position, and indeed any decent man, should never be making those kind of comments and should be immediately calling out the others. Shameful.
