  1. Body analysis aside, I'm struggling to see any upside to having Robertson as a CH.  His strengths are almost all going forward.

Tierney is really only at CH as a way to shoehorn him into the team somewhere, he's not particularly good at it either.  He has at least played there before at club level though.

Bite the bullet and pick one or the other if you ask me.  Rotate them if you like.

    I'd like to play

    Hendry - Hanley - Robertson

    O'Donnell - Jack - McTominay - Tierney

    McGinn - Armstrong

    Adams

Tierney needs to be playing LWB. Whoever plays there is going to be pretty isolated at times, and with no wingers in the team is going to have to create their own openings down the flank. That suits Tierney perfectly, his role at Arsensm is about roasting the opposing full-back for pace on the outside and drilling crosses front post or cut backs into the penalty spot area. He is perfectly suited to that role. Robertson is not, and has honestly looked lost at times playing it.

Robertson at left CH is a bold, some would say mental, call

It gets said a lot but "calling players up to get a look at them"...is that such a big thing nowadays?  It used to be that it was the only real way to get a proper look at players you'd only had a scout report on, but I'd imagine Clarke could watch every moment Gauld played in, and get all kinds of reports.  Do we really need to see how a professional footballer does in a squad?  Or do we just concentrate on getting the best players into the squad?

You'd want to see them in training to see how they fit your style of play, how they implement your gameplan, which is clearly not the same for every team and see who they work well with or not, plus get a feeling for whether they're good for the squad or an arse.

Don't think you can see any that from a video.

I would have called him and Turnbull up over Fleck, but they're aiming for the second strongest part of the team

Rangers play 60 games a season. Patterson isn’t ready for that kind of physical load at 19 - Celtic nearly ruined Tierneys career by doing that.

Good point and part of the reason why I don't think he's ready now.  Rangers could have rotated Tavernier out far more often with the lead they've had if Patterson was really chapping at the door.

Clearly a talented boy so fingers crossed for him

If Tavernier was Scottish he would walk into our team.

So he's being kept out by a guy who would easily be our best right back.

Yeah, and he'll be a reserve for a significant period so we've actually no much to go on as to whether he's actually any good and might well not get to see him as a regular player for years.  I didn't think he had a good game against Slavia, he was all over the place first half.  He's also never played rwb, which isn't the same as playing rb.

I hope he does kick on, cause we need all the players we can get but if he'd had 6 league games for Hibs he'd not be getting a look in

Billy Gilmour has about 8 but I don't think anyone would've grumbled had he been called up. I reckon Clarke is showing a bit of loyalty to the likes of Palmer for helping us get to the Euros but I expect after that Patterson will come into the picture.

I'd have moaned if Gilmour was called up tbh.  He's not played anywhere near enough this season.  It's also a strong area of the team.

But Gilmour is at a far better team and has been excellent for u21s etc generally.  He's not a reserve rb who'll be back out the team as soon as Tavernier is fit

Gareth Bale made his debut for Wales 40 days after his Southampton debut.

Norman Whiteside was an ever present as he helped Northern Ireland reach the World Cup quarter final in 1982 after just 1 appearance for Man United.

Stephen Crainey and Maurice Ross are a pretty strong counter argument

It's not a winning formula though, we lost our last 2 games in the Nations league against beatable opposition, failed to create many chances and ultimately didn't win the group.
Obviously not wanting to detract from the achievement of getting to the Euros but I want to get to the world cup too and we'll need a big improvement from the Slovakia and Israel games.

Obviously we lost those two games, so improvement is needed but we created more clear chances in both than you should need to win a game.   Slovakia we should really have won comfortably and Israel scored completely against the run of play.

If Clarke is shifting McTominay in to midfield, could that be an indication of a change in formation? A la dropping the 5 at the back to a 4?

Can't see it.  He'll want Tierney in and that needs a back 3 or to drop Robertson.  I think he'll likely try Hendry or more likely Hanley at RCB.

I'm enjoying how many of those on Jambos Kickback are shitting it against us. In the last three games, you have an average of 15 shots on goal per game. If you get even a fifth of those on target against our leaky defence, which is the 3rd worst in the league, I reckon you'll score at absolute minimum 2 goals. I'm predicting a 3-1 loss, and am currently in the process of accepting this.

We have had plenty shots, but we've only scored 3 and one of those was a penalty.  Our shite finishing is slightly less of a concern than our awful defending but both are trending in the wrong direction.

We should win comfortably, but we should win every game comfortably and yet here we are .

Be fair - having Pereira in goals literally means pretty much every shot on target is a goal (there is no other keeper I can think of *ever* for whom that is more true). You don't need to look like scoring to score against that absolute imposter.

It's one of the main reasons this team is better obviously- although we are still conceding a ridiculous amount of goals from the first shot teams have on goal.  Not Gordon's fault in any way but teams don't have to work hard to score against us
