Felt that Scott Mills and his partner came pretty well for the most part; happy enough that they won. I’ve enjoyed the celebrity versions more than I thought I would to be honest.
Not sure how the final two teams managed to fall so far behind in the final leg after it being so close. I guess it shows that you need to pick a good route to the checkpoint.
The penultimate couple of legs really stretched the contestants in Race Across the World this year, although for the siblings it was their own doing. The older couple seemed to dither through a bit in those legs too. I don’t think the public transport options helped them mind you.
I enjoyed this series as much as others but can’t say I warmed to any of the teams as much as I’ve done in the past.
Not sure if it’s much of a thing anymore but American sitcoms seemed to be particularly bad for cameos of characters from other shows.
There’s 2-3 instances of the Friends characters popping up in different sitcoms at the time. Definitely not trying to boost the ratings of new/bad shows…
The new Camera Obscura album is great, imo, and stands up against their best. It doesn’t feel like a comeback but more of a continuation despite everything that’s happened since Desire Lines.
I think people can underplay just how bad we were before Clarke took over that season.
I remember being at Fir Park when Motherwell turned us over 2-0. Broadfoot was so bad that the Motherwell fans were cheering his name.
It felt like an incredibly manufactured argument to fill airtime. Stewart jumped in head first, full throttle looking to make an argument, rather than make a point.
I turned it off just after that. It was an absolute rabble.
Add me to the people who enjoyed One Day. I really enjoy these types of stories (see also Normal People from a couple of years ago). Despite being nothing like the main characters I found myself relating to them in one way or another.
The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy.
A dying man trying to come to terms with what’s happening and how he got there. I liked it but I’m not sure I really liked any of the characters.
I use The Storygraph; assume most of these apps are the same but I’d saw some recommendations for it and downloaded it. Let’s you track what you’re reading, gives recommendations etc.
I listened to Live and Let Die last year. Not a great book but made all the more…interesting…by Rory Kinnear trying to do a load of black Harlem accents.
