That particular game had a couple of call offs, think one was for snow and the other rain. Hasn't been too bad really, our old grass pitch was murder, about the only time it wasn't in danger of being postponed was when it was sunny. Drainage was murder, slightest bit of rain and you feared the worst.

It's mostly been when we're in the snowy season we're at risk now, from frost, then you get the all weather pitch comments..

I assume any problems with drainage will be down to the layers below the pitch and the drainage infrastructure, all of which should be designed for significantly greater rainfall than this.

Canny be any worse than that Scotland game at Hampden, squeegees at the ready.

Fecking ref better no come out and give it a bounce test 2 mins before KO and declare it unplayable, like he did when we played Aberdeen, the p***k.

Was that a one-off or do you have a history of call-offs with drainage problems? Expecting lots of games to be off to be honest.

Edit: Livi La Vida Loca has pretty much answered while I was posting

I don’t know what the issue is but I’m still only being offered student and OAP tickets . I also don’t get any chat about “ Away “ tickets either and I’m using the same link on the Motherwell site as you chaps. What search engine are you using ? I’ve tried chrome and safari on my iPad and Microsoft edge on my laptop and they are all exactly the same 🤷‍♂️

    Chrome worked fine for me.

Is it offering tickets in sections N and P, which are the away sections?  I have looked at the Account Settings and it has nothing specific about age or being an away fan, I assume it is the link that dictates the away section.

That was my assumption too. The link on the Motherwell website takes you directly to the away tickets - there wasn't any other option for me and I was able to choose between adult, concession or kid's ticket. £17 seemed a bit steep for an OAP I thought but I'm not used to buying them as my dad doesn't go to many away games.

I see the family are to get £67M between them this year. Even though the late Mr Clark inspired this thread he ‘only’ took dividends of a few £M each year.

Every business is entitled to run at a profit but it strikes me the current custodians are grasping c***s. If you are contemplating buying a car off them, make sure you haggle an appropriate discount or you’ve only got yourself to blame for funding what I’d expect is their inevitably lavish lifestyle.

And then there’s the whole other argument about furlough money. Makes Lady Mone of Mayfair look small time.

There's that many of them, it'll probably just be like a small lottery win each. Except they get it every year.

I'm not sure what the furlough fuss is about though. If they had their staff on furlough, are they not entitled to it the same as everyone else?

  5. Obviously the standard of our forwards has been apparent in the last few games but what really stood out for me today is our lack of depth in midfield. Our only option off the bench was Davor when we desperately needed fresh legs whereas Celtic were able to swap round players on a like for like basis. I know we needed to balance the books but the squad looks a bit, well.... unbalanced. Are we going to need Butcher in there when suspensions (looking at you Slattery) and injuries kick in?

The ball came in from the right, I think Spencer was running onto it about six yards out and probably Tavernier pushed him off the ball.

Ah, that was the penalty claim. Nah, not having that. Don't really see  Tavernier doing anything and I would have been livid if that was given against us.

According to this (possibly unreliable) table, Motherwell are the most defeated top flight side in history. Feels very true to me.

We've only had a positive goal difference on a handful of seasons in the time I've been watching Motherwell so it's no surprise that we've got an overall negative goal difference. We have conceded more top flight goals than anyone else though!

Oh well, it's better than losing goals in the Championship or League One as a good number of our peers have.

Too early for this thread IMO, but aye its looking a bit grim.

Would say St Mirren already look safe tbh, the drop off needed for them to be relegated is too big to be realistic. Tempted to say Motherwell is the same.

Thread will be all about us for a while.

    Next five games are...

    Livingston (H), Aberdeen (A), Motherwell (H), St Mirren (A), Kilmarnock (H)

Need to be getting 8+ points wise from that run

Motherwell had a strong start and, based on 36 points roughly representing safety, I remember thinking we're a quarter then a third of the way to safety. We then stopped and managed to briefly be bottom on 20 points in early February.

On that basis I'm not confident of declaring anyone is safe at this point although St. Mirren and Motherwell certainly don't look as though they're going to be troubling the relegation battle.

  9. Really strange approach from the council on parking. Most away fans come off the motorway and it makes complete sense to park in an industrial area where the properties have their own parking and are generally closed anyway. There have always been signs saying you can't park which are confusing but you turn up and see St Mirren fans leaving their cars there so assume it's OK. To then start enforcing parking regulations on a random basis is bonkers. If, as someone suggested, it's to keep access clear for emergency vehicles then just remove cars that are parked in a way that cause blockages.

As an aside, Scottish football in general takes an absolute battering for being zero quality shite from people both inside and outside Scotland, but I thought Saturday's game was a superb example of really enjoyable, watchable, quality football outside of the gruesome twosome.

Football overall is far too expensive, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who wouldn't be happy to be served up that game in return for their hard earned. There was some fantastic high-level football on show and was a great advert for our game.

Yes, despite losing, I thoroughly enjoyed the game as a keenly-fought contest and wasn't too downbeat as we'll play worse than that and win. It has to be said, we probably only deserved a draw against Killie (possibly Hearts too but I only saw the highlights) and came away with a win so there was maybe a bit of balancing out.

Somebody put up the BBC article on xG and how both teams had outperformed so it wasn't a great surprise that one of the teams was able to score from the fairly low number of real opportunities. St. Mirren scored a cracking goal and we were nowhere near clinical enough in front of goal. Hardly a great surprise when we're onto our fourth choice centre forward.

Perhaps the disappointing thing, was that Shaw has been brought in as an option but absolutely fluffed his lines when given a clear opportunity - hopefully he's just a bit rusty but I've seen anything in his career so far to convince me. Prove me wrong Oli!
