  1. I hope not, purely based on this extract from one of Richard Gordon's books: DAVID VAN ZANTEN (ex-St Mirren): I was among the substitutes for a game at Firhill against Partick Thistle and they were awarded a corner early in the second half. We’re leading 1–0 at the time and they push most of their big guys up hoping to get an equaliser. Our boss, Danny Lennon, is straight out of the dugout, and he’s screaming, “Who’s picking up Balotelli? Who’s marking Balotelli? Someone get on Balotelli!†Of course he means Conrad Balatoni, but has got the names mixed up, and we’re creasing ourselves at the thought of Mario Balotelli playing for Partick Thistle. Danny glances round and as we all try to cover up that we’re laughing at him, someone points out that Balatoni hasn’t even gone up for the corner, he’s standing on the halfway line. That was it, we were gone, and there are howls of laughter from the dugout as the boys clear the danger out on the pitch. Danny’s standing there absolutely bemused; he had no idea what he’d said and why we were cracking up.
  2. It's early days. That'll be entirely down to all the money coming in on McKinnon, largely because there aren't any other contenders yet. Once Darren Jackson or some eejit like him starts mouthing off in the press about how much they want the job, the prices will change.
  3. I'd highly recommend the Premium ticket. This feeling of smug superiority is an absolute bargain at an extra £30.
  4. We had a wee discussion about player of the year on this thread recently, and I'm not convinced Davo's name appeared at all. Well, the McGregor Lounge have given their award this afternoon...
  5. Aye, Jamie Langfield posted his slip on Twitter a few weeks back. He'd nominated Iain Davidson as one of the best four defenders in the league this year, which says a lot for the process. I'm vice-chairman of the Davo fan club, but he hasn't been in the top four defenders at Raith Rovers this year.
  6. Someone in the Championship will take a punt on him. Hopefully it's yourselves, but he'll probably get an offer or two from the full time sides. You can't built a team around him (well, Dumbarton sort of have, but you shouldn't) but if you've already got two reliable strikers, he's a great third option. When he's on the park he's an absolute destroyer, but he doesn't look capable of playing 25 matches a season.

  8. Is footing the bill for maintenance and repairs not pretty standard for leases of this nature?
  9. See instead of waiting for someone to set up a kickstarter, just wire up a direct debit for Roary's Lotto. You can do it on the website, the club doesn't pay out any more if more people sign up, and you might even win something for yourself.
  10. Hi Eric, thanks for replying first of all. I think you've possibly read a little more into my comments than I intended, but I'd rather a little misunderstood dialogue than none at all! As you say, I don't disagree with you at all. Of course the team deserves a better support than it currently receives, I just don't think that complaining about it in the paper is going to turn people around. It's obviously incredibly frustrating to go to the efforts that you and many others do, without seeing the results you wanted, but I feel it's counter-productive when the understandable negativity reaches the press. For what it's worth, I thought the rallying cry earlier in the season (which culminated in Ray's message over the tannoy at the Hibs game) was excellent PR, and was disappointed to see it didn't have more of a lasting effect. I absolutely don't want anyone from the club to be lying in the press. It's that kind of behaviour that leads to a slippery slope - the transparency from the Rovers is excellent, and I truly commend the board for the way it carries out the vast majority of its business. That said, I don't think that you'll get more people to the game by saying the product will be worse if they continue not to come. Do the people who aren't going to games care if next season's games aren't any good? You're right that there are lots of good news stories coming out of the club. I've noticed this year in particular that the website and the Twitter presence have both been greatly improved in comparison to what's gone before, and I've probably been very unfair on you by putting your name alone against the negative comments. If you're behind a lot of the changes that we've seen (and I've no reason to believe you aren't!) then I'd really like to congratulate you on that and ask that you keep up the good work. My core point was really about positive PR. If we're trying to get more people to come along, the club needs to be seen as something positive, something aspirational and something that people can come together to feel part of (sounds like the same reason they say troubled teens join gangs, which is odd... I wonder if anyone's ever looked into their recruitment tactics and tried to implement it in professional sport, but I digress) and some of the articles that have appeared in the press recently go against that ethos. It was a clumsy post, and I sincerely apologise if you thought I was personally attacking you or the work that you do. I'm a season ticket holder, and I'll be there again on Saturday, I appreciate the club and the way that it's run. I will, unfortunately, also continue to post my occasional thoughts on this website, but take comfort in knowing they're from a largely uninformed point of view, and they're read by an incredibly small audience that's largely only interested in Dave McGurn. As I am.
  11. The McGurn save at one end of EEP and then the Casa finish at the other is one of my favourite ever footballing moments. It had everything. On an altogether different note, I think we need to address the negativity coming out Stark's Park, particularly from Eric Drysdale. I'm not saying he hasn't got a point, but if you imagine a director of a blockbuster hit started moaning to the press that not enough people were seeing his film, and that if more people didn't buy tickets, his next film wouldn't be very good, well... it doesn't make you want to see the film, does it? You start complaining that nobody's turning up, and the first thing people think is that there's probably a reason for it.
  12. Bloody feels like I'm in Pakistan most of the time here now, eh? /yerda
  13. Add me to the list of those who'll be there, but absolutely understands why someone wouldn't want to be. The home games against Rangers recently have been some of the worst Rovers games I've ever attended. I went to Ibrox once, to check it off the list, and it just happened to be the Cup game that we won. I can't imagine how utterly miserable it must be to endure that in defeat. That said, sticking it to them was joyous, and I wouldn't want to miss it if we did it again.
  14. With relevance to the ongoing discussion, Queens are in their home kit and the Rovers are in the black and green Remember kit. No idea if it's officially designated as the away or the third...
  15. I can't believe that some of our fans believe what they write on a football forum.
