  1. And as those aeons passed, the SNP grew to become the dominant force in Scottish politics at all levels and have seen support for independence grow. You ever considered a career in super-forecasting?
  2. Also, our 28th game (away to Airdrie) it could be argued, was slightly tougher than Montrose's (home to Stranraer). It's a nonsense anyway, no play-offs will be played if the season can't be finished so 4th / 5th won't matter but it is another reason why calling the league part way through isn't great.
  3. I've dusted off the old scientific calculator and have just estimated that there will be 8 million cases of coronavirus in Scotland by next month.
  4. I'm warming towards reconstruction, even if it's only temporary. We could go 14-14-14 for one season and then back to 12-10-10-10 if clubs wanted it. 143 would give us the flexibility to have between 26-38 games over the season. The clubs that might be aggrieved at this would be the clubs from 3rd down with a chance of the play-off in the championship and Cove who might think it's unfair to find themselves in the same league as Brechin next season. But it's got a little bit of the something for everyone about it. You either get a 'sort of' promotion, avoid a relegation or if you're a club like Dundee, Ayr, Clyde, Cove then you find yourself in a league that's theoretically easier to win or get promoted from next season.
  5. Brechin should give it a go. Raise a bit of cash and strengthen the squad at the same time.
  6. One of the big problems / ramifications of applying option 3 across the four divisions of the SPFL is that, not only will you declare champions and promote teams on the basis of a part-season but that you'll relegate teams based on a part-season. That problem doesn't exist in the HL. Also, they don't have to consider applying a rule consistently across different leagues with very different situations. It's incredibly unlikely that Brora would be caught if the HL were to be finished. Taking the Championship in isolation, I doubt many people would find it too unpalatable to call Dundee Utd as champions because there's a very small likelihood of them being caught. That's not the case in League One, where Falkirk might actually be slight favourites to win the league from this point. So although technically, they did decide to call the league with current standings, practically, that was a very different decision than it would be to apply option 3 to the SPFL. They're not having to take the same considerations into account so it's not really the same decision.
  7. Yep, so it's not really the same as option 3.
  8. Of course, an important difference is that they didn't vote to also relegate Brechin.
  9. That's the way I understood it. Clubs will apply to HMRC and HMRC will give the money to the clubs so that they can continue to pay players and staff. So it shouldn't matter whether you have one job or five jobs, as long as you're a salaried employee, your employer should be able to claim the 80% up to £25k.
  10. Clubs might decide to vote for some form of promotion. But the fact is that at the moment Raith Rovers haven't earned that, haven't won the league and, if the season can't be finished, won't do either of those things. So there's no argument to be made on what's deserved.
  11. Yeah, I suppose you'd get whatever completing 75% of a 4 year degree got you.
  12. Are we really saying that career threatening injuries are somehow mitigated as long as there's promotion and relegation? There are leagues / seasons where there are no promotion and/or relegation. There are cup competitions with neither of these things. Of course it'll be deeply unsatisfying if there's no conclusion to this season but it won't make it any more satisfying to do a musical chairs type 'champions when the music stops'. If this season can't be completed, none of the leagues will really have champions however it's handled. If East Fife happened to be top right now, you can bet I'd be trying to find every argument I could come up with to justify some sort of promotion based on that. A football season's like a university degree, not a survey. If you complete the first 3 years but can't finish the 4th year, you're not given a degree based on what you did during the first 75%. Actually, just for a laugh, let's make a league based on results from Q2 and 3 and promote Montrose as champions.
  13. Of the all seaters, Tynecastle is definitely the best. Absolutely cracking atmosphere in there when it's full. Including old grounds, then old Bayview is still my favourite. Might be biased but of the traditional grounds it nudges ahead of Gayfield for me due to the steepness of the terraces. The only other old grounds I've been to are Love Street and Boghead. Would have loved to have gone to Brockville and Broomfield.
  14. 1) Visited 32/42 2) Seen East Fife play at 31 - Tannadice is the only one I've been to but not seen East Fife play at. 3) Old Bayview is the first ground I went to. First of the current 42 was Central Park. 4) I think the most recent one to be ticked off the list was Rugby Park, which must have been around 2012/13. 5) Gayfield. Great old fashioned ground where you're close to the action with plenty of covered terracing. 6) Probably The Falkirk Stadium. Shite to get to and don't like being behind the goals.
  15. It's unlikely Montrose will overtake all three teams above them. It's entirely realistic that they could catch any one of them.
  16. Isn't it the thing that you just can't have a total and comprehensive quarantine of an entire population like that? even if 80% of the population could stay inside their homes, you'll need people providing essential services. Food needs delivered, health/police/fire service etc, the electricity network needs to keep going. So you'll still see some small levels of transmission of the virus. Maybe only a couple of hundred people have it by the time the quarantine ends. Then, when everyone re-emerges, it'll just run riot again.
  17. Of course Falkirk fans want the top two teams to be promoted. The reality is that 2nd spot is not an automatic promotion spot though. Finishing 2nd earns you a 25% chance of promotion, exactly the same as finishing 4th. If folk have problems with promoting the team currently in 1st because they haven't really earned the reward of promotion, why the hell would we reward teams currently in second who haven't even earned something that there's no reward for, other than a play-off spot?
  18. Yeah, I had considered a temporary league reconstruction to go back to the current set up the following year. I just assumed that would be something the SPFL would try very hard to avoid.
  19. Depends on what the Premier League think of 14 teams I suppose. I don't think it's inherently 'fairer' than 1 up / 1 down.
  20. Accurate estimate that the average MDR equates to 43% of each clubs budget. Aye, but there's no way to know which clubs are above 43% and which clubs are below. I suspect it'll be the clubs significantly above 43% that'll be in the most bother.
