  1. Our strongest side without Walsh. I think Houston and Reading are key. We need the extra width they bring going forwards.
  2. On Windows 10 with latest version of Chrome there were quite a few hangs. Did seem to coincide with the ball going in to the box which was when Calum was getting a bit more animated.
  3. Going to give this a go. I'd never have travelled through from Edinburgh in normal times so the club are up £10.
  4. To be honest I'm getting pretty bored of the two year contract discussion. We've decided it's the right thing to do, and assuming we've budgeted correctly I'm prepared to trust the directors on that. We seem to be getting more bang for our buck as players will take a bit less this year for the security of a two year deal, and we avoid the total rebuild at the start of next season which we normally face. And isn't it great we've got two players in the U-21s. Hopefully Ecrepont makes the step up to the U-19s this year too.
  5. Ok. I've had enough. Despite being an Edinburgh dwelling Ayr United supporter I'm now boycotting Tynecastle next season.
  6. Hardly been on here for weeks as I'd really like to draw a line under all of this. Maybe we're slowly getting there. In my view there could only have been two outcomes to last season - either null and void or find the most equitable way to promote and relegate. You just can't have promotion without relegation as that's league reconstruction by the back door. It's unfortunate for those impacted, but we need to start looking forwards, not back.
  7. I was told by a Thistle fan he'd lined Archibald up during the close season so was just biding his time for Caldwell to get the bullet.
  8. I'd agree. If he's being freed by Rangers I'd definitely sign him up. I think he'll keep improving.
  9. It looks to me like Houston is being told to defend very narrow. Geggan does it too and it bugs the hell out of me. I think it concedes too much space to the opposition.
  10. That was a good three points given our recent slump. Even better that it was dug out by a decent team effort. It was good to see Kerr going round each of the players at full time and this will hopefully do their confidence a world of good. I haven't seen Ayr for a few weeks but most of the problems out there didn't seem to be the manager's fault from what I saw. A failure to find an Ayr player countless times and a lack of movement in the final third should be basic skills. I do wonder why he's playing Moore ahead of Moffat, though, as Moore's link up play is pretty poor. I'm also not getting the hate for Houston. I thought he was decent when he first signed and I thought he was pretty steady when he came on. As far as the game goes, I'm not sure I agree with those Pars fans that think they were miles ahead in the first half. The stats had us having far more of the ball although we were poor in the final third. Dunfermline were more direct but Doohan only had to make one save of note. Second half, Dunfermline looked short of ideas and I thought we were relatively comfortable. We do try and play from the back a bit too much at times but Nisbet was well marshalled by our defence and Doohan was solid in everything he did. I'll suspend judgement on the Geggan and Moore incidents until I see the highlights as we were so far away but in real time it looked like Geggan might have been a wee bit lucky but that Scully took Moore out.
  11. I do worry what effect the pitch will have on our game. I'm not anti artificial surfaces but they're not all the same and this one always seems to play very slowly compared to, for example, East Fife.
  12. Harvie was a decent player last season but a) his confidence seems to have really been boosted this season and b) Forrest in front of him works really well as they are on the same wavelength.
  13. I don't actually think either Kerr or Mcardle are saying anything that revolutionary or new and I'd genuinely be expecting us to be doing these things. I suspect it comes across a bit forced as they are probably still in interview mode to some degree. Let's face it, David Hopkin probably didn't go to his Morton interview and say that he was just going to lump it up the park to some haddie and then try and win the ball when he creates a stramash.
  14. I'd have thought tonight was an indication of why the Ayr job should be attractive to more than Canning and McIntyre. Three players turn out for the Under 21s and a guy who turned his career round at Ayr and left us less than 6 months ago makes his full Scotland debut. There's very few jobs where you get to work with that quality day in day out. Add in Forrest, McCowan and Houston who's an Under 19 international and the level of player currenly at Ayr is possibly the best it's been since Ally's first stint.
  15. And surely that's the whole point? Arbroath's directors look at the potential costs and decide to run the club on a sustainable basis which means staying part time. To do anything else would be reckless. That's just good financial governance which the Dundees, Livis, etc. all failed at.
  16. I see some funster has been on to Shankland's Wikipedia page: He is tipped to win the world cup and African cup of nations with Dundee United and get his first international caps for Antarctica
  17. I think it's right not to make too many changes. Stewart has massive experience and knows the squad. He's a more qualified coach than anyone we've had before. I'd have been equally happy with Coyle or Houston, both if whom also bring experience but the quality of our football has gone up significantly since Stewart arrived so he deserves the chance in my book. Bring in another coach to spare the load on Kerr this season and get Moffat and Geggan up to Largs if they want it so we're developing our future coaches from within.
  18. He might have money but at the moment they are a shower. Even with 2 part time teams in the league I think it's a relegation struggle for them this season.
  19. Probably a sensible move. I'd like us to take a bit if time to think about the future before we appoint a new manager on a permanent basis.
  20. This. Sticking with good young players needs to be our USP. Whether we develop them through the Academy or help guys like Shankland and Rose rebuild their careers I think Ayr need to stand for giving youth a chance. It's where McCall is miles better as a manager than Dalziel ever was and why I hope we have him for a while yet. It helps us attract some of the best players we've had in ages and is why clubs like Celtic, Aberdeen and Rangers trust us with their youngsters on loan. Too many clubs in Scotland are wasting money on journeymen and it's getting them nowhere and is dragging the game in Scotland down.
  21. Well done on your start to the season. Thought you were decent a couple of seasons ago when we won the First Division. It's no coincidence that the 3 teams with the most stable management are in the playoff places in my view.
  22. Have to agree. That's the best team performance we've put in in ages. Given we lost Shankland, Smith, McDaid, Crawford and Rose in the summer and Bell, Adams, Murdoch and McGuffie from the Partick game, each and every player stepped up. In particular I thought the 2 centre halves were excellent when we came under pressure, Moffat was superb, and the midfield trio were calm and collected on the ball. Special mention though for Harvie. I've only seen him against Morton, Partick and Dundee United but he's getting better by the week. Best left back in the league and surely the next player to move on having developed under McCall. If we can maintain this defensive resilience alongside our normal attacking flair I think we'll do well this season. Just shows the benefit of having a decent manager.
