A successful 10 days for the Wasps, which sees them rack up 3 straight wins and rightfully leapfrog us into 3rd place ahead of Saturday's game at the Recs

Big Andy's side are hitting form with only 1 loss in the last 9 league games, a much stronger quarter which has revitalised their season. With Bobby Wales rejoining and with 6 in his last 7 there must be a degree of optimism going into the business end of the campaign. There's plenty of games left and the likes of Montrose, Kelty, QoS will certainly have us in their sights.

For Cove, our results have been almost the polar opposite. Since Taggs injury time winner at Balmoral we've picked up only a solitary win (against Edinburgh City) in our last 7 league games to go with 3 draws and 3 defeats.

As mentioned on the Wasps Nest podcast, this could be the return of Fyvie after 3 months out. Desperately need him back to change our fortunes and get us playing something resembling football rather than lobbing aimless balls up to and around Rumarn.

    With Fyvie

    P8 W5 D3 L0    - 18 points (4 clean sheets)

    Without Fyvie

    P15 W4 D4 L7   - 16 points (1 clean sheet)

    * Since I've quoted the above Fyvie will likely play and we'll still lose but thought I'd stick it in.

Predicted Lineup below. The two changes I envisage from the cup game with Killie are Shiels returning at LB and hopefully we see Fraser. Kerr and Darge to drop to the bench. Likely will be narrow 4-4-2 for us with full backs being encouraged to play higher when we're in possession and Sena retreating for cover. Suman supposedly could be a doubt after getting a bad knock at the weekend, however, Balint Demus would be equally as good so wouldn't weaken us. Many Cove fans would like to see Balint get a run of games, one of our own and all.

Result is a tough one to call. Bookies make Alloa slight favourites which going by form and home advantage is spot on. Without Fyvie, it's hard to see us getting anything more than a point although in fairness there has been an improvement in our last 3 games. With Fyvie we might have a chance for something more positive.

After this one Alloa have Hamilton (A) and Montrose (A) so two tougher fixtures. Cove play Annan (H) and EC (A)

That's my commentary about cove sorted on Saturday. 😅

Serious offer if you fancy doing the commentary with Kieren pop up to the press box. My laptop's graphics card has burnt out and it will be a patchwork  fix and likely technical chaos again tomorrow.

My threat to delete one random player from the team sheet until I get a new device should be taken seriously now. 🦹‍♀️

Read an article earlier that says that clubs now need to hold an sfa bronze level accreditation to play in the top 4 leagues. The highland league clubs are kicking off about it as they think it's an attempt to prevent clubs from the 5th tiers getting up. However, I noticed that two of the clubs that don't have this accredition currently are covered and Airdrie who along with Edinburgh city, kelty and Peterhead have been given an exemption till the beginning of next season. Would be hilarious if Airdrie got bumped out due to failing to meet this standard.

Airdrie is something fixable in the first team category. Fairly sure it's personnel related due to not having a qualification in the category. If the option was employ someone or lose upwards of £300,000 the choice is easy. Peterhead and Kelty are likewise falling down in that first team category.

Edinburgh have the issue of the stadium. That'll not be fixed any time soon.

I quite like the idea of having the bronze license as a requisite because it means teams who invest in playing staff to the detriment of everything else and don't have the necessary infrastructure will never be allowed to push out the teams that are maintaining their standards.

Think the limit is 5 domestic loans and we currently have 2. So we can get 3 more.

They would have to be from the top flight too, as you can only loan players from a higher division during this window, I believe.

We loaned East Kilbride's Ally Roy in the last extended loan window so you're probably making that up.

but whatever they doing or equipment they are using is what we should be doing.

Fairly sure that's what they've got. That's the camera I wanted to get for us a good few years ago when it was a newer model. Would have made negotiations much easier had anyone known covid was coming but £3k was seen as a bit steep at the time. 😅

For ideal purchases I quite like the idea of this. You get great flexibility in less equipped stadiums with a gimbal or in this instance ptz and this is the top of the line Sony solution. Seen these used professionally recently in stadium shots replacing the spidercam systems.

  5. I'd hope the saving grace is that there's no more Stirling or Falkirk to be played at the Recs.
The grandstanding troublemakers who climbed over the wall won't have the same audience and it'll get back to being about football. Fairly certain those people weren't in the ground either. Just coming outside specifically to cause problems.

  6. I went last night to gauge the opposition. Had a particular eye out for the ex-Alloa players.

I was critical of Stirling's centre mids. Neither was involved. Why you are content to let the ball get hoofed over your head for 90 minutes instead of showing and playing some actual football? Barring Leitch getting involved a few times on the edge of the box I can't think of much contribution to the game.  We had Murray Miller on loan last year and he's a bright technical midfielder - he's just small. Sure he'd have offered better value. Offord looked dynamic when he came on but I assume the shape went to a 4-2-3-1 at that point. Certainly didn't look like he was being used as a striker. Any early joy Stirling was getting was diagonal to Hilson running into the channels but that fell flat after the first 20 minutes when to me it looked like he had burnt his matches. Offord got a few years and a few yards on Hilson I'd wager.

I would say on the left back Clark doesn't add much - but I don't think Stirling have too much guile beyond Carrick but he sits disciplined to set up a 3-2-5 with numbers in the box and hope Cummins can deliver. Marauding from left back probably was Callum Crane's crowning achievement scoring against Ayr United - We've been heavily right sided in chance creation for a while and it helps a lot when both wings can contribute.

  7. Despite agreeing with@bridge of allan bairns assessment of being a 'better team', we (Alloa) are very brittle. Queen of the South were abject when they came to ours but the other two games imo they've looked better to me than Montrose and Stirling and I wouldn't put it past anyone at this point to blunder into the playoffs.

Going to watch those two tonight so I might update that opinion after some prime brexit ball.

Weirdly it'd actually require special permission, and approval of other SPFL clubs:

    Covered Stadia
H2     No League Match or Play-Off Match shall take place at any stadium where the playing area is permanently covered or partially covered by a fixed or moveable roof without the prior written approval of the Board after consultation with the Clubs.

If it were up to me and I could cast Alloa's vote the Oriam is better equipped than Meadowbank.

However having played a few games on hot days indoors at Toryglen - it's really hard to avoid overheating. Don't think players would take to kindly to that in the long term.
