  1. I do quite enjoy that the police in Turkey are actually called the polis. Yous are right though, of all the countries in Europe (well, partly in Europe in this case) in which to try the little stunt of punching a policeman, Turkey would definitely be one of the bottom ranked candidates. Can't imagine they let that slide.
  2. I got blocked today on Instagram by Nicola Sturgeon. For background, this is literally the first time I have ever commented on her posts, I have voted for SNP every election that I was eligible and am, politically, very pro independence. She posted a photo of Salman Rushdie's new book and some spiel about the importance of preserving the freedom of speech. I simply commented "ironic from a woman and party that has waged a war on freedom of speech". And she blocked me Now, regardless of if you agree or disagree with my statement there, that's poor form. The comment was generating some decent discussion on both sides and it was just shut down and deleted. I mean, I'm sure that she has some Social Media Manager or some other important role these days but still.....I said nothing in any way offensive so it leaves a sour taste.
  3. Christ, Aberdeen have been fucking robbed there. They go to 3-1 and you'd think the points are safe.
  4. It's called Kongesangen (King's song) the Royal anthem of Norway (to be distinguished from the National anthem). The elderly chap we just saw being escorted into the stadium is the Norwegian King.
  5. I wouldn't say a 2-0 is a pumping by any means. Such a frustrating one that - first half was very even and you were thinking it could go either way, then that free kick is the worst time to concede (Kyogo in the wall? Eh?). Lagerbielke I thought was poor throughout but a soft penalty and definitely a harsh red and then Holm's was a definite red and no way back. It's not so much a pumping other than some ill-discipline and naivety (and having the smallest man on the park be part of the wall!) that gave us a 2-0 away defeat. Lazio and Atleti drawing 1-1 works out well for us though and with Feyenoord as the final home game we can still be optimistic. That goal by the Lazio keeper though. That was immense!
  6. Woke up today expecting the worst but in the end it was relatively comfortable. Still can't quite get my head round why The Rangers appointed Michael Beale in the first place when his only managerial experience was losing half his games at QPR. Kris Boyd after the match was something to behold. The man was apoplectic with rage and I actually wondered if he was going to do a Piers Morgan and march out the studio. Delicious.
  7. Definitely the best it could have been. Hopefully we can play Lazio first - they've had a poor start to Serie A, losing to both Lecce and newly promoted Genoa.
  8. I'm new to Pie and Bovril and not very confident in posting yet but I'm a Celtic fan (I was raised in Helensburgh both grandparents east end of Glasgow men, one of whom was part of the construction of the new Celtic Park, both brought me up loving Celtic although I stopped watching football in my teens because I got into nerdier stuff and it was 2012 I got back to my roots and became a fully fledged Celtic fan as in following all the games, scores religiously and so on (no pun intended). Just saying all that useless shit because I've seen people on here say "why don't you support your local team?" and so on and want to circumvent that because both my mother and father's sides of the family have close affiliation with Celtic in some capacity - again, sorry I'm new, just want to be transparent and get any potential whataboutery out of the way. Anyway that said: We were absolute rank rotten today. Celtic could have played for 5 more years and still not scored. I was never really keen on Rodgers coming back (but that rat patter is needless and just makes us look small time) and it seems like it. After Ange giving us 2 years of magic, full attack, exciting, swashbuckling football, Brendan seems almost the reverse - pedestrian, ponderous, side-to-side arsepicking. We're fortunate I think that Rangers have made a howler of a managerial appointment themselves but Brendan to me seems like a huge step backwards and he doesn't suit this young exciting team. But Kilmarnock: you were absolutely tremendous and I think you'll do very, very well this season. Deserved winners today and McInnis is to me a far better manager than he gets credit for. Forgive this rather messy introductory post in my first foray into the main parts of the forum.
  9. I can't help myself by watching the footage of these things. They're morbidly fascinating. The bellies of many of those drummers and marchers are practically dragging on the pavement. I can sort of get the appeal of the whole pageantry and theatrical element of it but you'd think they'd at least get themselves into a respectable condition for their big moment.
