  1. Cheers FWF.

So if we refer to the SJFA Pyramid Survey spread sheet from March 2018 the following ERJFA West Lothian clubs supported joining the Pyramid:

    FOR

    Armadale Thistle
    Bathgate Thistle
    Fauldhouse United
    Harthill Royal
    Livingston United

    AGAINST

    Pumpherston Juniors
    Stoneyburn Juniors
    West Calder United
    Whitburn Juniors

It appears that the 2020/21 season will again see these nine West Lothian clubs outwith the Pyramid. That is their choice. BUT it would be helpful if those involved with WL clubs can explain why more than half want to join the Pyramid but as a group they remain defiantly opposed to the Pyramid. It is a confusing conundrum.

If the clubs remain determined not to join the EoSFL at the end of the 2020/21 season, I would suggest that a "Pyramid link" is fashioned which would enable the champions of ERJFA Superleague South being eligible for promotion to the EoSFL First Division.

It would be a little messy but at least we would then have a fully operational pyramid covering the East of Scotland for 2021/22.

  2. I am having problems locating the original SJFA Pyramid Survey spread sheet.

It will be interesting to see how the ERJFA West Lothian rump clubs voted.

I have a feeling that one or two clubs may have been somewhat disingenuous having voted for the Pyramid and are now taking every possible step to avoid the new “Junior friendly” version with access to the Junior Cup.,

What clubs fall within this category? What would have changed their minds?

West of Scotland Football League for season 2020-2021

Today the Committee are happy to released this statement

Kilbirnie Ladeside FC would like to  confirm we have made our application to join the planned West of Scotland Football League for season 2020-2021.

We would also like to confirm our intention to retain membership of the Scottish Junior Football Association and thereafter entry in the Scottish Junior Cup.

Many Thanks for you continued support and we hope you are all well and safe

Hope that the other “certainties” release their statements soon.

Three going down seems about right to me. The issue you have though is the SoS being ay tier 6 and producing champions miles off the level of the likes of Talbot or Bo'ness.

For me the perfect solution would be 3 possible promotion places for licensed clubs to the LL:

    1. WoSFL champions

    2. EoSFL champions

    3. Four way playoff for the third place:

    - WoSFL runners-up
    - EoSFL runners-up
    - SoSFL champions
    - Team finishing 14th in the LL

FWF will then point out that everything gets messed up if there is an additional club relegated from SL2!

I know that this structure will not happen because of self-interest. But one can still dream!

If the Thorniewood committee want to stay in the junior set up, they should approach the ERSJFA and see whether in the case of one, two or more clubs, where there was no junior league left for them to play in, they would accept  them. Looking at the ERSJFA constitution, no boundaries to the region are mentioned, so it would seem to be a question of whether the existing clubs would be willing to accept the travel. Surely relatively near clubs like Thorniewood, Wishaw, Carluke and Lanark would be accepted. Despite what has been said about wanting to provide a choice, at the moment these clubs seem to be faced with no real option of playing in a  junior league. It’s either join the new WOS pyramid league(s) or go amateur.

Flexible thinking indeed - are you also suggesting that Harthill and Fauldhouse should be able to join the WoSFL if they wish to progress within the Pyramid?

He isn't getting it, is he? Thorniewood, and I dare say some others, need to have a good think about the implications of not applying very soon.

They will apply. It is clear that some managers want to complete the current season but sadly that is not going to happen.

  10. Daily Record:

Thorniewood United boss Jamie Nesbitt says new league set-up will leave clubs unhappy

    Quote

Thorniewood United boss Jamie Nesbitt says a number of clubs will be left unhappy if the new West of Scotland League set-up is based on current junior league positions.

Nesbitt says he would like the current junior season to be played to some kind of finish to avoid that, and says several clubs would be likely to finish in a different position than how the leagues ended before the coronavirus shutdown.

    Quote

Nesbitt added: “I genuinely mean this – as a club we’ve not really spoken about the West of Scotland League, at all.

"At the last game we played I mentioned it to the committee and they had said they were looking to stay in the junior set-up, and obviously that has changed, everybody seems to have applied for West of Scotland League status.

“I’m ambitious, but I’ve always operated at Second or First Division level, so for us to get to that senior stage, or that grade, then I’m not really sure.

    Does this sound sensible?

46 or 47 out of 52 expressions of interest from the juniors by the initial deadline to get an invite to the EK meeting = 46 WRSJFA + Fauldhouse

Drumchapel United are a known applicant = 48

Remaining four probably = Glasgow Uni, Bonnyton + 2 more from SoS?

My gut feeling is there were around 5 SoS clubs that were interested in joining the WoSFL but have been caught up in the “geographical integrity” issue.

I think that in normal circumstances we would have seen at least one of these clubs publicise their application. At the moment it appears that only Bonnyton will be certain of being accepted in the WoSFL.

If more clubs were to leave the SoSFL this may begin to  impact on the future viability of the SoSFL.

A compromise could be that any club leaving the SoSFL for the WoSFL puts their Reserves or Community side in the SoSFL in order to maintain numbers.

I think we all accept that the SoSFL will need to eventually find its level in the Pyramid feeding in to the appropriate tier of the WoSFL. The SoSFL’s current position at Tier 6 will soon become untenable.

Plus Shotts Bon Accord (Source: NLS) so now 38 with 12 from the Premiership and also from the Championship.

37 out of 63 West Juniors clubs - almost 60%, with eight days to go to the 7th April deal-line.

26 West Juniors plans not yet known.

Anyone know of further announcements likely today/tomorrow? Pyramidic?

I'll do an up-dated list at the end of this evening.

Like yourself Dev I use NLS, Twitter, Facebook and Press Reports. I understand that a League One club may release their statement later on this evening or tomorrow. One to look out for.
